  • In this paper, we present a new current-current negative feedback(CCNF) differential voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with 1/f induced low-frequency noise suppressed. By means of the CCNF, the 1/f induced low-frequency noise is removed from the proposed CCNF VCO. Also, high-frequency noise is stopped from being down-converted into phase noise by means of the increased output impedance through the CCNF and the feedback capacitor $C_f. The proposed CCNF VCO represents 11-dB reduction in phase noise at 10 kHz offset, compared with the conventional differential VCO. The phase noise of the proposed CCNF VCO is measured as - 87 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset frequency from 5.5-GHz carrier. The proposed CCNF VCO consumes 14.0 mA at 2.0 V supply voltage, and shows single-ended output power of - 12 dBm.

  • OFDM system is an excellent high speed transmission method but it is seriously sensitive to the phase noise and IQ imbalance. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the communication performance of the OFDM communication system with IQ imbalance and phase noise. Phase noise's variance can be calculated by integral calculus of phase noise power spectrum. From simulation results, it can be shown that the BER performances show different change according to the phase noise variance and IQ imbalance amount. When amplitude imbalance is ${\varepsilon}$=0.2; 0.3; 0.4 and phase imbalance is ${\phi}=10^0$, and distribution of phase noise is ${\sigma}^2=0.012$, BER is degraded by 2.88 dB, 3.61 dB, 4.09 dB in $10^{-5}$ in the respect of the SNR penalty.

  • The popularity of OFDM systems is being increased because of high speed data transmission capability and the spectral efficiency characteristics. However, since OFDM systems are very sensitive to the phase noise, The interference among subcarriers and the total system noise can be increased seriously due to the degree of phase noise effects which can cause the orthogonality problems. Therefore, these phase noise effects were analyzed using the phase noise model by varying its parameters. Especially in this paper, The degree of system performance degradation was investigated for the OFDM systems applying the relatively simple transmit and receiver diversity.

  • An alternative inverse feedback structure for adaptive active control of periodic noise is introduced for systems with nonminimum phase cancellation path. To obtain the inverse model of the nonminimum phase cancellation path, the cancellation path model can be factorized into a minimum phase term and a maximum phase term. The maximum phase term containing unstable zeros makes the inverse model unstable. To avoid the instability, we alter the inverse model of the maximum phase system into an anti-causal FIR one. An LMS predictor estimates the future samples of the noise, which are necessary for causality of both anti-causal FIR approximation for the stable inverse of the maximum phase system and time-delay existing in the cancellation path. The proposed method has a faster convergence behavior and a better transient response than the conventional filtered-x LMS algorithms with the same internal model control structure since a filtered reference signal is not required. We compare the proposed methods with the conventional methods through simulation studies.

  • In this paper, the reduction scheme of Interchannel Interference(ICI) caused by the phase noise in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) systems for archiving high data rates is proposed. The performance of conventional common phase error(CPE) compensation method is degraded by the phase noise with wide 3dB bandwidth in OFDM systems width a higher-order constellation. After estimating dominant ICI coefficients using pilot subcarriers and data subcarriers adjacent to pilot subcarriers, the proposed scheme compensates OFDM signals distorted by the phase noise using estimated coefficients in the time or frequency domain. Also, in order to determine the length of dominant ICI coefficients effectively, the estimation method of the 3dB bandwidth of the phase noise is proposed. The proposed phase noise reduction method is shown to improve the Bit Error Ratio(BER) performance compared with the conventional CPE compensation.

  • It has been known that 1/f noise of MOSFET is generated by superposition of random telelgraph signals (RTS). In this study, jitters and phase noise caused by 1/f noise of MOSFET are analysed with RTS supplied to all of the nodes of the CMOS ring oscillator under investigation. Through the analysis of jitters and jitter ratios with varying values of the amplitude of RTS, it is found that the jitters and the jitter ratios are proportional to the amplitude of RTS. And the analysis of FFT of the output of the ring oscillator reveals that the jitters are closely related to the phase noise of the high order harmonics of the ring oscillator outputs.

  • Multi-wavelength holography has a better axial range than single-wavelength holography, thus allowing unambiguous phase imaging. Noise amplification is the limiting factor in multi-wavelength holography as noise is amplified by a factor equivalent to the magnification of the wavelengths. Here, we propose a new algorithm to remove noise amplification in multi-wavelength holography. The proposed method does not use phase unwrapping and removes $2{\pi}$ ambiguities. Experiments and numerical simulations indicated that the proposed method is fast, has low noise, and is useful for measuring samples with arbitrary step heights.

  • This research is focused on the experimental study of the noise induced by two-phase refrigerant flow in the evaporator. The two-phase flow in the evaporator has various flow patterns. The effects of two-phase flow pattern's characteristics on the noise of the evaporator are investigated experimentally. The experimental data shows that the generated noise is mainly related to the layout of the pipe and the certain two-phase flow patterns such as the churn and slug flow. Based on these results, we removed the unnecessary vertical pipe and changed the pipe diameter of the evaporator - inlet into small one in order to avoid the intermittent flow condition. The noise level of newly-designed inlet-pipe of the evaporator was measured experimentally by refrigerant-supplying equipment and compared with that of conventional one.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of a direct-conversion UHF RFID reader with the range correlation effects of the phase noise. Since a UHF RFIB system uses the same oscillator to generate the transmitted carrier and the local oscillation, the periodic interference and phase noise reduction effects occur due to time delay between two signals. Through exact theory and simulation, we verify how to cancel the periodic interference phenomena using I/Q diversity combining technique. And, we analyze phase noise reduction effects due to range correlation as a function of the tag-reader distance and the offset frequency Using these results, we simulate the symbol-error-rate performance with respect to phase noise with and without range correation effects. We show that the phase noise of the local oscillator has little effect on the symbol-error-rate performance because of phase noise reduction by range correlation.

  • A broadband radio frequency synthesizer for multi-band, multi-standard mobile DTV tuners is proposed, it's loop bandwidth can be calibrated to optimize integrated phase noise performance without the problem of phase noise peaking. For this purpose, we proposed a new third-order scalable loop filter and a scalable charge pump circuit to minimize the variation in phase margin during calibration. The prototype phase-lock loop is fabricated in 180nm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor shows that it effectively prevents phase noise peaking from growing while the loop bandwidth increases by up to three times.
