  • As smart phones, tablets, and other digital devices become more pervasive, theoretical arguments around digital divide, which has previously focused on "access," is now expanding to effectively "utilize," actively "produce" and "share" information. Such discussion is significant because the impact on inter-personal and social networks depends on how digital divides are used, which can then recreate or exacerbate social inequality structures. This study examines the effect of individual's social relations and two types of social capital (i.e., bonding and bridging) on economic and socio-participatory usage of digital devices. An empirical analysis of dataset from 740 surveys reveals that the more horizontal the social relations of the individual, the more both bonding and bridging social capital increase. However, rather than the social relationship of the individual directly influencing the two types of digital device usage, it has an indirect effect on both economic and socio-participatory usage of digital devices. In particular, mediating effects of both bonding and bridging social capital exist in the case of economic usage of digital devices, whereas bonding social capital only has mediating effects on economic usage of digital devices. We discuss the role of social capital on digital devices usage and present the theoretical and practical implications.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of life (QoL) of elderly women and the effect of social support on their QoL. The data were used 'urvey on the Elderly in 2011', which was held from 'Ministry of Health & Welfare' and 'Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs'. Among the total 15,146 respondents, 3,880 of elderly women whose age was over 65, and who did not live together with their married children were included in the analysis. Multiple regression analysis and path analysis were used to analyze the research model. The findings were as follows. First, from the fact that the elderly women showed the highest mean in 'contact frequency with friends' among social support, it seemed that the elderly women contacted their friends more than their children in their old age. Among the support types from their children, elderly women received emotional support, physical support, instrumental support in order and irregular cash as a way of economic support. Second, from the regression results, the most critical factor that affected the QoL of elderly women was 'subjective physical condition level' and 'subjective standard of living' comes next. Third, the most important factor was 'subjective standard of living' from path analysis results, and 'subjective physical condition level' and 'total amount of annual income' in order. Also, social supports such as 'phone call contact frequency with children', 'emotional support from children', phone call contact frequency with relatives', 'phone call contact frequency with friends' positively affected the QoL of elderly women. Therefore, raising social supports from children, relatives, and friends positively contributes to improve the QoL of elderly women directly and indirectly. The results show that social supporters, which is a part of the structural aspects of social support, and types of social support, which lies in functional aspects, directly affect QoL of the elderly women and turn out to be factors that improve the QoL as mediating variables. It is concluded that the social supports can be the most important resources that make up declining personal and social resources in old age and maintain the QoL of elderly women.

  • Preliminary scheduling at the initial stage of planning phase is usually performed with limited information and details. Therefore, the reliability and accuracy of preliminary scheduling is affected by personal experiences and skills of the schedule planners, and it requires enormous managerial effort (or workload). Reusing of historical data of the similar projects is important for efficient preliminary scheduling. However, understanding the structure of historical data and applying them to a new project requires a great deal of experience and knowledge. In this context, this paper propose a framework and methodology for automated preliminary schedule generation based on historical database. The proposed methodology and framework enables to automatically generate CPM schedules for airport projects in the early planning stage in order to enhance the reliability and to reduce the workload by using structured knowledge and experience.

  • With the increase of digital content usages, the protection for digital content and intellectual property becomes more important. The DRM(digital rights management) technologies are applicable to protect not only any kind of digital contents but also intellectual property. Besides such techniques are required for recorded digital broadcasting contents due to introduction of digital broadcasting techniques and storage devices such as personal video recorder. The conventional protection scheme for broadcasting content is the CAS(conditional access system) by which the access of viewer is controlled on the specific channels or programs. The CAS prohibits the viewer from delivering the digital broadcasting content to other person, so it results in restriction of superdistribution on the digital broadcasting content. In this paper, for broadcast targeting unspecfic many people, we will design the service model of the protection and distribution of digital broadcasting content using encryption and license by employing the concept of DRM. The results of implementation are also shown to verify some functions of each component. An implemented system of this paper has some advantages that the recording of broadcast content is allowed on set-top-box and superdistribution is available by consumer. Hence it provides content providers and consumers with trustworthy environment for content protection and distribution.

  • Background : Aim of this study is focused on the analysis of the needed abilities of medical representatives resulting in building up the market and increasing sales. It is to propose methods to increase this ability ensuring continuous growth in market share and profit. Methods : A survey was conducted between January 6 and May 31, 2003. Using SPSS(Version 10.0), the collected data was analyzed by Hotelling T2, factor analysis. Some hypotheses were selected to include the conclusion. Some questionnaires for physicians working in hospitals or clinics and the medical representatives working in a pharmaceutical company were created and asked to them to either prove or reject those hypotheses. The results were analyzed to find the primary factors that effect the interactions between physician and the medical representatives. These factors were also studied along with the theoretical research based on published references. Results : The results were as follows. The main reasons for the physician to meet with a medical representatives were collection of product informations needed for patient treatment and collection of informations on current medical issue and as well as personal interests. The main parameters by which physicians evaluate the medical representatives are human relationship including sincerity and manners and supply of accurate and unbiased information on products. Overall, the medical representatives' perception on the importance of medical knowledge and ability to deliver it are lower than that expected by physicians. Conclusion : Medical and pharmaceutical companies' environment are changed rapidly. And those changes forced medical representatives to set new roles and competency. In order to drive away from the past 'rule of thumb' and 'adaptation to circumstance', optimal method and systemic development to train and support the medical representatives should be quipped. They will help medical representatives to be specialists in medical knowledge and to understand the exact need of health care professions. Product competitiveness will be increased and eventually successful business can be achieved through it.

  • Mobbing is not restricted to problem of young people but the bigger recent problem occurs in workspaces. According to reports of ILO and domestic case mobbing in the workplace is increasing more and more numerically from 9.1%('03) to 30.7%('08). These mobbing brings personal and social losses. The proposed algorithm makes it possible to grasp not only current mobbing victims but also potential mobbing victims through user profile and contribute to efficient personnel management. This paper extracts user profile related to mobbing, in a way of selecting seven factors and fifty attributes that are related to this matter. Next, expressing extracting factors as '1' if they are related me or not '0'. And apply similarity function to attributes summation included in factors to calculate similarity between the users. Third, calculate optimizing weight choosing factors included attributes by applying neural network algorithm of SPSS Clementine and through this summation Mobbing-Value(MV) can be calculated . Finally by mapping MV of online social network users to G2 mobbing propensity classification model(4 Groups; Ideal Group of the online social network, Bullies, Aggressive victims, Victims) which is designed in this paper, can grasp mobbing propensity of users, which will contribute to efficient personnel management.

  • The current status of Korean hospitals on foodservice hygiene was evaluated by a survey in the March of 2000 from 96 hospitals in terms of general sanitation management, education and training, and from 35 hospitals on the observance of hygienic practices in the whole stages of foodservice, personal hygiene, and kitchen equipment and facility hygiene. The questionnaire was filled directly by the dietitian working in the subject hospital. The status of general sanitation management was satisfactory overall; however, the record-keeping or documentation of the practices was the weak point which needs to be improved. only 4% of the subjects appeared to have implemented HACCP for the hospital foodservice. Comparison of the hospitals in their observance rate of hygienic practice by the type of hospital, the location of hospital, the number of bed, and the separation of dietitian's duties as clinical nutrition and foodservice showed characteristic trends among the groups. General hospitals often showed better scores than tertiary hospitals in their observance rates. As the location of hospital moved from large cities to small towns, the observance rate for hygienic practice decreased. Hospitals with entrusted foodservice system showed better scores in hygienic practice than those with owner-operated one in the stage of planning and equipment/facility hygiene (p<0.05). And the scores of the hospitals having dietitian's duties separated into clinical and food services were higher than the ones with un-separated duties. Detailed information obtained in this study would serve for the development of guidelines or programs to improve the hygienic level of Korean hospital foodservice.

  • With the recent 4th Industrial Revolution, the growth and value of big data are continuously increasing, and the government is also actively making efforts to open and utilize public data. However, the situation still does not reach the level of demand for public data use by citizens, At this point, it is necessary to identify research trends in the public data field and seek directions for development. In this study, in order to understand the research trends related to public data, the analysis was performed using topic modeling, which is mainly used in text mining techniques. To this end, we collected papers containing keywords of 'Public data' among domestic and foreign research papers (1,437 domestically, 9,607 overseas) and performed topic modeling based on the LDA algorithm, and compared domestic and foreign public data research trends. After analysis, policy implications were presented. Looking at the time series by topic, research in the fields of 'personal information protection', 'public data management', and 'urban environment' has increased in Korea. Overseas, it was confirmed that research in the fields of 'urban policy', 'cell biology', 'deep learning', and 'cloud·security' is active.

  • Studying abroad in and of itself should be a unique and transformational learning experience for university students. Too often, "study abroad" is a code word for "faculty vacation" or "easy credit hours". For an international learning experience to be truly transformational it must offer an intense and directed program that maximizes the time the student spends in the accumulation of information that is new or different from what the student has "learned" previously. "Study abroad" may be a misnomer because it is not only about studying in another country or culture, that is, taking courses that usually have an attendance time of a few hours a week, but it is also about living in another country which becomes a 24/7 learning experience. Providing these programs during the Covid-19 pandemic has been a keen opportunity for institutional learning. When this immersion in foreign culture is combined with academic rigor applied to a student's chosen field of study the growth can be exponential. So, what is the relationship between academic and personal growth? The National Association for Study Abroad has found that "students who have studied abroad are better able to work with people from other countries, understand the complexity of global issues, and have greater intercultural learning. One study found that students returned from their study abroad experiences more tolerant and less fearful of other countries, but with a greater sense of nationalism-a phenomenon they called 'enlightened nationalism'." It is often said that "you only really learn to appreciate things that are important to you when they are gone, when you miss them." The international learning environment can provide this opportunity. The restrictions on various societies in the past two years due to the international Covid pandemic have provided existing study abroad programs with a true testing ground for the validity of their programs. At the end of the day, American colleges and universities are not helpless in the face of these developments. A lot depends on how a university positions itself for a future based on the uncertainties of the past. As Winston Churchill was working to form the United Nations after WWII, he famously said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste". In another context, Churchill's insight on human nature can also be applied to the coming semesters and years as studying abroad rebounds. What new strategies will be developed and maintained? Institutional commitment without fear will be necessary to assure that "studying abroad" will continue to develop as a truly unique and transformational learning experience.
