  • Purpose: The study examined the effects of ethical sensitivity and person-environment fit on person-centered care of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: The participants were 111 nurses. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis with the SPSS program. Results: The mean of person-centered care was 2.95±0.62 out of 5. There were significant differences in person-centered care in terms of age, shift pattern, total clinical career, and educational experience of person-centered care. Person-centered care and ethical sensitivity, person-centered care and person-environment fit showed a positive correlation. Factors affecting the person-centered care were the age (20-29), shift pattern (three shift), person-environment fit. The explanatory power was 42%. Conclusion: These results can be used to increase the person-environment fit and adopt a differented approach based on age and shift pattern in order to enhance person-centered care. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply an person-centered care program for nurses in long-term care hospitals.

  • Recently, one-person households have surpassed nuclear families. One-person households are expected to have many problems with health due to an irregular life style and a tendency to be more isolated from society. In addition, we need to divide the generations and survey each generation due to differences in one-person household factors and characteristics as well as the unique physical conditions of each generation. Therefore, based on the sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, this survey examined health behavior differences between one-person households and non-one-person households according to generation (respectively) as well as studied how one-person households and health behavior influence subjective health conditions. The major result of this survey is as follows. First, one-person households reveal a higher rate in the negative health behavior than non-one-person households. Second, the physical activity of all households reveals a high rate of non-activity. Third, health scores of one-person households are lower than that of non-one-person households; consequently, the analysis of health scores for one-person households and non-one-person households indicated that the middle age health scores for one-person households have been lowest in generations. Fourth, the factors that influence subjective health conditions indicated that one-person household and health behavior has meaningful influence; in addition, the subjective health condition of one-person households are lower than non-one-person households under controlled health behavior.

  • This study determined the characteristics of meal-related time use among employees living in one-person and multi-person households by conducting a comparison focused on gender and age differences. Among the questionnaires distributed to employees during the 2014 Korean Time Use Survey, 19,692 were used for final analysis. The results were as follows: First, the one-person households had shorter meal-related time use than did the multi-person households, except for the time spent having snacks and beverages. Second, meal-related time use was generally longer in non-working days than in workdays. Third, gender differences in meal-related time use were observed, with the more significant ones being the differences in time devoted to meal preparation and dishwashing. Fourth, in both the one-person and multi-person households, women spent a longer amount of time preparing meals and washing dishes than did men, but this difference was greater in multi-person households. Fifth, old individuals spend a longer time preparing meals and washing dishes than did young individuals. Policies must be enforced to improve the quality of diets in one-person households. Such households should also be provided nutrition education to increase their awareness of the importance of healthy and regular meals. Another essential requirement of policy is the provision of gender equality education for both the one-person and multi-person households.

  • Objectives: This study was performed to compare the dietary life of single- and non single-person households in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Methods: A nationally representative sample of 20,421 19-64-year-olds who had 24-hour recall data was taken from the 2014-2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Single- and non single-persons were compared for nutrient intake, dietary behaviors, food consumption patterns, nutrition education and confirm nutrition label. Results: The dietary intakes of dietary fiber and iron were lower in single-person households than in non single-person households. The lower the level of education and income, the lower the nutrient intake of single-person households. In the case of those aged 19 to 29, the breakfast skipping rate was higher in single-person households than in non single-person households. The higher the education level, the higher the breakfast skipping rate and the eating out frequency in the single-person households. In the food intake survey, the frequency of healthy food intake in single-person households was much lower than that of non single-person households. The confirmation rate of nutrition labeling was lower in single-person households than in non single-person households. Conclusions: This study shows that single-person households have poorer health-nutritional behaviors than multi-person households. Therefore, a nutrition education program based on the data of this study needs to be developed for health promotion of single-person households.

  • Through the study on the constitution-favored food by each constitution, we can draw below conclusions : The number of food that corresponds to that on more than 3 literatures showed over 40 for lesser yang person, greater yin person and lesser yin person, however, the number for greater yang person only appeared about 20, half of the number for the others. This is considered to have resulted from the not-enough studies on greater yang person for its rarity. When looking into the portion of the constitution-favored food for each constitution, the portion of cereals, bulbous plants and beans takes 27% (average 16.4% in the constitution-favored food)for greater yin person-favored food, the portion of vegetables and mushroom shares 29%(average 23.6% in the constitution-favored food) for lesser yin person, while the portion of fish, shellfish and other sea-food shows an average 25%, almost same figure for greater yang person, lesser yang person and lesser yin person, but its portion for greater yin person comes up the lowest figure at 16.2%. The portion of fruit shows relatively bigger figure in the constitution-favored food for lesser yang person and greater yin person, while smaller for greater yang person and lesser yin person. Meat, milk and milk products, eggs, oil and fats, condiments and flavors are not found in the greater yang person-favored food. When classifying the constitution-favored food by 4-Chi, the cold-natured food which favorers for lesser yang person shows a major portion, and when classifying it by 5 tastes, the sweety food becomes major, further, when classifying it by the benefited organ, the food benefiting to spleen and stomach, the lesser yin person favored food, appears prevalent. Above conclusion, based on approximately 300 kinds of food which are classified as constitutional food on literatures, suggests the necessity of a steady study and requires us to develop new constitutional food with the contemporary technology of food-processing and to determine the constitutional suitability on the newly introduced food which is increasing its numbers through importation due to frequent oversea trading.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the economic characteristics of single-person households and explain the effects of them on the food service industry. Methods: For this paper, I analysed the data related with single-person households and the food service industry in two surveys, Household Income and Expenditure Survey and Wholesale and Retail Trade Survey published by Statistics Korea from 2006 to 2015, with an empirical test performed utilizing these data. The indicators of the age of householders, disposable income per capita, and the rate of household of worker were compared between single and multi-person households. Furthermore, sales and the number of establishments in the food service industry were used as industry-variables, and disposable income, eating-out expenses and the rate of single-person households as the household-variables were used in a panel analysis. Results: The results showed that household incomes were lower, age of householder was higher, and the percentage of household of worker was lower in single-person households in contrast to multi-person households. According to the empirical analysis, eating-out expenses of single-person households, in comparison to multi-person households, has significantly positive effects on the growth of the food service industry. This means that the recent trend of increasing numbers of single-person households may help the growth of the food service industry. Conclusions: The growth in the rate of single-person households has been one of the most striking demographic shifts in recent decades. Their economic characteristics and the effects were analyzed to give the managers in the food service industry and the policy-makers useful information in dealing with this new trend. Moreover, in considering the fact that single-person households eat out more frequently than multi-person households, the food service business should develop the managerial strategies focused on acclimatizing to single-person households.

  • Purpose : Establishing competency in person-centered care is crucial for providing high-quality nursing care in diverse clinical settings and adapting to changing roles in different situations. This study aimed to explore the level of transcultural self-efficacy, cultural empathy, and person-centered care competency among nursing students, as well as identify the factors influencing their person-centered care competency. The findings will serve as fundamental data to enhance person-centered care competency. Methods : A questionnaire consisting of items on general characteristics, person-centered care competency, transcultural self-efficacy, and cultural empathy was administered to 175 nursing students in G city. Data were collected from March 5, 2023, to March 20, 2023. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program. Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to examine the correlation among transcultural self-efficacy, cultural empathy, and person-centered care competency. Multiple regression analysis was employed to determine the factors influencing person-centered care competency. Results : The person-centered care competency scores were above the average level and varied according to department satisfaction (F=13.79, p<.001), subjective well-being (t=3.34, p=.015), and interpersonal relations (F=5.74, p=.001). Person-centered care competency exhibited a significant positive correlation with cultural empathy (r=.51, p<.001) and transcultural self-efficacy (r=.49, p<.001). Regression analysis confirmed that cultural empathy (β=.39, p<.001) and transcultural self-efficacy (β=.22, p<.001) were influential factors for nursing students' person-centered care competency, with the model explaining 37 % of the variance. Conclusion : Cultural empathy and transcultural self-efficacy are significant factors influencing the person-centered care competency of nursing students. It is crucial to encourage nursing students to develop person-centered care competency by fostering cultural empathy and transcultural self-efficacy. Further research is needed to identify additional factors affecting person-centered care competency among nursing students. Additionally, the development of education programs aimed at enhancing person-centered care competency is necessary.

  • The purposes of this study were to consider the influence of person-environment fit in the family restaurants on employees' stress. Based on total 274 samples obtained from empirical research from March 20 to April 10, 2013, self-administrated questionnaires were completed by patrons in metropolitan area and data were analysed by frequency, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multi-regression analysis. Results of study were as follows: From the exploratory factor analysis of the variables, 4 factors, i.e. person-organization fit(3 variables), person-job fit(3 variables), person-supervisor fit(3 variables), and employees' stress(5 variables) were extracted. The results showed that employees' person-organization fit was significant differences according to gender(male $4.43{\pm}1.45$; female $4.83{\pm}1.34$; p<0.05). In terms of employees' person-supervisor fit was significant differences according to age(20' $3.08{\pm}0.99$, 30' $3.52{\pm}0.10$; 40' $3.71{\pm}1.07$; p<0.05). Also, the person-job fit(${\beta}$=-0.472; p<0.001), and person-supervisor fit(${\beta}$=-0.285; p<0.001) among the person-environment fit had a significant negative effect on employees' stress. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
