The Effects of Over-Parenting Behavior and Peer-Alienation on Adolescents' School Adjustment: The Mediating of Smartphone Dependency and Focus on Multi Group Analysis between Boys and Girls (과잉양육행동과 또래소외가 중학생의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향: 스마트폰 의존경향성의 매개효과 및 성별에 따른 다집단분석)

  • This study investigates the effects of over-parenting behavior and peer-alienation on adolescents' school adjustment and explores the mediating effects of smartphone dependency on the above relations. The subjects were 1,882 first grade students in middle school selected from the 7th year data of the 2010 Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey (2010 KCYPS). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, structural equational models, and Sobel test with SPSS 21.0 and Amos 18.0. The findings were as follows. First, there was no significant difference in the school adjustment according to gender. However, boys were higher in the perception of over-parenting behavior and peer-alienation, and girls were higher in smartphone dependency. Second, peer-alienation and smartphone dependency had negative impacts on the school adjustment. But over-parenting behavior had no significant effect on school adjustment. Third, smartphone dependency played a mediator role between over-parenting behavior and peer-alienation as well as the school adjustment. Fourth, there were no significant differences between boys and girls in the relations among over-parenting behavior, peer-alienation, smartphone dependency and school adjustment. But there was a slight difference in influence. The findings of this study suggest that interventions on how to use smartphone correctly are important for improving adolescents' school adjustment. In addition, gender differences in school adjustment should be considered for a better understanding.

The Effects of Parenting Attitudes on Peer Attachment in Early Adolescents : Focusing on Moderating Effects of Gender in Convergence Era (부모의 양육태도가 초기 청소년의 또래애착에 미치는 영향 : 융복합 시대에 성별 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examined the moderating effects of gender on the influences of parental parenting attitudes on peer attachment in early adolescents. Data analysis was conducted over 1,912 respondents who met the purpose of this study among Korean Youth Panel KCYPS 7th year data of 1st grade in elementary school. The research methods examined the influence of variables on dependent variable, with difference of gender influences. As a result, it was found that gender, the control variable, and overall grade satisfaction affected peer attachment. Second, positive and negative parenting attitudes have confirmed positive and negative effects on peer attachment. Third, moderating effect was confirmed as parenting attitudes by gender show the difference of impact on peer attachment. Therefore, this study suggest to apply it to practical and theoretical implications and basic data for the program development to improve youth peer relations.

The Study on Relation between Temperament, Emotional Intelligence and Peer Competence of Young Children (유아 기질과 정서지능 및 또래 유능성간의 관련성)

  • This study tried to analyse the effect of young children's sexuality, ages, temperament and emotional intelligence upon the peer competence. The subjects were 250 children from H and W childcare center in J city. Date were analysed by multiple regression analysis with SPSS. According to this research, there are three specific results. First, a general tendency of children's temperament, emotional intelligence and peer competence is related with normal distribution. The Second indicated that the peer competence was closely associated with young children's sexuality, ages, temperament and emotional intelligence. Finally the emotional intelligence was the strongest predictor for peer competence of young children and sexuality and temperament also notable variables. Therefore, according to this research, a special education program for improvement of peer competence is strongly desired.

  • Objectives: The major purpose of the study is to examine structural relation among teenager's perception of parenting attitudes, peer attachment, resilience and meaning in life. In order to achieve purpose of the study, we will develop reliable criterion which can measure variable. Method: We will set up structural relational model from relationship between internal and external variables that can influence teenager's meaning in life and we will examine the relationship between variables through structural equation analysis. we will find structural relationship among parenting attitudes, peer attachment, resilience and meaning in life. Results: We analyzed structural relationship among variables targeting 744 middle school and high school students. Teenager's perception of parenting attitudes have positive influence on peer attachment. This shows that teenager perception of fostering attitude have a positive influence even though teenager percepts parent's foster attitude as overprotective or compassionate. However, if teenager percept fostering attitude as overprotective, teenager perception of parenting attitudes doesn't have influence on resilience. Parent's compassionate attitude not only directly influence resilience but also influence resilience through peer attachment. This validates that individual psychological factor, such as how teenager accept and interpret surrounding environment can influence resilience. Peer attachment relationship not only directly influence resilience but also influence meaning of life through resilience. The resilience has direct effect on meaning in life. Conclusions: When one of education goal is to help teenager to find meaning in life and to reach self-realization, We need to have interest in resilience which is known factor for contributing meaning in life. As previous teenager studies has approached this problem, such as maladjustment, delinquency, and depression, it is significant that this study is examined in positive a psychological perspective which focus on healthy adjustment, such as meaning in life based on teenager's resilience and happiness.

The Influence of Adolescents' Self-Esteem on Life Satisfaction: Verifying Moderated Mediation of Peer Relations Mediated by Altruism and Self-Regulation (청소년의 자아존중감이 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향: 이타심과 자기통제에 의한 또래관계의 조절된 매개효과 검증)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was aimed to examine the effect of self-esteem on life satisfaction and happiness among adolescents, and to verify moderated mediation of peer relations mediated by altruism and self-regulation. Method: The study referred to the 2015 Annual Report of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. More precisely, report on the fourth year research process of the study cohort comprising 2,091 subjects was used to verify the research model. Overall data were analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 program and specifically, moderated mediation were verified by using SPSS Macro, as suggested by Preacher, etc. (2008). Results: As a result, firstly, the peer relations mediated the relationship between life satisfaction and self-esteem among adolescents. Secondly, altruism and self-regulation had moderated mediation effects between self-esteem and peer relations among adolescents. Conclusion: These results suggest that self-esteem affects on life satisfaction and happiness by mediation of peer relations among adolescents and altruism and self-regulation agent is applied positive adjustment to further promote the peer relations and increase life satisfaction among adolescents. Through these study results, the implications for counseling and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Multiple-Parallel Mediation Effects of Self-Esteem and Body-Image in the Relationship between Peer Attachment and Happiness in Children with Chronic Illness (만성질환 아동의 또래애착과 행복감 간의 관계에서 자아존중감과 신체적 자아상의 다중병렬매개효과)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to examine the multiple-parallel mediation effects of self-esteem and body-image on the relationship between peer attachment and happiness in children with chronic diseases. In addition, this study aims to provide a basis for supporting psychological services alongside therapeutic services as a way to increase the overall happiness of children with chronic diseases. Design: This study utilized data from the 2020 Panel Study on Korean Children. Methods: The survey method was conducted as a survey by investigators, and the number of cases used in the study was 363. Results: First, children's peer attachment is associated with higher levels of overall happiness. Second, it can see that peer attachment not only increases self-esteem, but also leads to a positive perception of one's own body-image. Third, it can be seen that peer attachment, high self-esteem, and positive perception of body-image increase children's overall happiness. Finally, it can be seen that peer attachment can increase children's happiness through self-esteem and body-image Conclusion: It is thought that a more positive prognosis can be expected when psychological support is provided together with therapeutic treatment in providing medical services for children with chronic diseases.

A Study on the Structural Relationship between Adolescents' Peer Attachment and Smartphone Addiction (청소년의 또래애착, 자아탄력성, 학업스트레스 및 스마트폰 중독 간의 구조 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural relationship, direct and indirect effects between adolescents' peer attachment, self-resilience, academic stress, and smartphone addiction. The subject of this study used panel data of a total of 1280 middle school students who participated in the 14th study of the Children's Panel of the Korea Child Care Policy Institute. For data analysis, SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0 programs were used. As a result of the study, children's peer attachment was positively correlated with ego resiliency, academic stress and negatively correlated with smartphone addiction. All pathways except peer attachment and smartphone addiction were found to have a direct influence, and adolescents' peer attachment had an indirect effect on smartphone addiction through ego resiliency and parental achievement pressure. In conclusion, in order to lower adolescents' smartphone addiction, practical interventions to improve ego resiliency and reduce academic stress through peer attachment are considered necessary.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze the effect of ego resilience, peer attachment and mobile phone-related characteristics on mobile phones functional uses, focused on the use of SNS & messenger and music and internet in middle school students. Methods: The subjects were 217 middle school students in 2 cities. Results: The factors affecting mobile phones SNS & messenger usages were interpersonal relation, viability of ego-resilience in male, and communication of peer attachment in female. The factors affecting internet usages were curiosity of ego-resilience in both sexes. The factors affecting music usages were viability of ego-resilience in both sexes. Conclusion: Education and management about mobile phone functional use should be made, by intervening reflected subregions effect factors of peer attachment and ego-resilience.

  • This research was conducted to investigate what effect personal relationship personality and temperament have on peer competence of a child. To carry out the research, this experiment subjected 137 preschoolers with age range of 4 to 5 years old attending in 5 education institution for preschoolers in Seoul. The result showed that personal relationship personality of a child and his temperament hold certain influence on peer competence. To take a detailed look on this matter we divided the independent variable into low factors. The result showed that the peer competence was influenced by the introverted personality and outgoing personality which are the sub factors of personality and was also affected by physiological regulation and adaptability which is the sub factor of the temperament.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the understanding of children's play behavior by exploring the relationship between variables predicting children's preferred play areas using the data of the Korean Children's Panel, which is a national longitudinal study data. For this purpose, we investigated how children's gender, creativity, and peer play behaviors affect children's preferred play areas on their preferred play areas. The research results revealed in this study are as follows. First, there were differences in creativity, peer play behaviors, and play area preference according to children's gender. Second, as a result of examining the effect of children's creativity and peer play behaviors on play area preference, factors influencing language area, art area, math & manipulative area, and role play area preference were different based on block play area preference group. This study has great implications in that it provides basic data for children's play behavior by exploring variables that affect children's preference for play areas.
