Composite materials were used widely due to merit of light weight, low maintenance cost and easy installation. But it is the cause of enormous casualties to men and properties because of weak about the fire. Particularly, it is more serious in case of subway train installed composite materials. For this reason, experimental comparison has been done fur measuring heat release rate(H.R.R) and smoke production rate(S.P.R) of interior panels of electric motor car using cone calorimeter. A high radiative heat flux of 50kW/㎡ was used to bum out all materials and to simulate the condition of fully developed fire case in the tests. It was observed that Heat Release Rate and Smoke Production Rate curves were dependent on the kinds of the interior materials. From the heat release rate curves, the sustained ignition time, peak heat release rate and total heat release rate were deduced, These data are useful in classifying the materials by calculating two parameters describing the possibility to flashover.
In this study, we have performed the Cone Calorimeter test in accordance with ISO 5660-1 to check the combustion characteristics of building flooring materials. The fire risk of these materials were evaluated by construction code, KFI criteria and standards of flame retardant performance. When samples exposed to external heat flux, all samples consumed a lot of Oxygen for a long time. So heat release from sample burning continued so long. And also all samples produced so much smoke. Even though a few samples were satisfied with only peak heat release rate criteria, all 8 samples were not satisfied with criteria of peak heat release rate and total heat released together. The results of 5 min total heat released were $15.9MJ/m^2{\sim}5.9MJ/m^2$. It menas the results are more than 2~6 times higher than the criteria. The results of 10 min total heat released were $30.1MJ/m^2{\sim}100.8MJ/m^2$. It means the results are more than 3~12 times higher than the criteria. 6 of 8 samples were not satisfied with Dm.corr.(corrected maximum smoke density) criteria. The building flooring materials which we used for this test ignited very fast and the burning continued so long. It means these samples are susceptible to fire.
This study was designed to investigate fire characteristics of the plastics insulating materials such as a polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, and polyethylene foam, which is used an insulating materials i3t workplace. The fire characteristics of plastic insulating materials were carried out from the Cone Calorimeter test according to ISO 5660. The experimental materials used were commercial plastic insulating materials by products and their composition is not disclosed by the manufacturer. As the results of this study; the heat release rate of plastic insulating materials was increased with increasing density and heat flux. The peak heat release rate and the average heat release rate for the polyethylene foam in insulating materials were showed the highest, and the peak heat release rate for the polyethylene foam was the highest. The standard of heat release rate with a kind of products and heat flux of irradiance to prevent fire by plastic insulating materials was suggested.
Effects of ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM)/polypropylene (PP), zinc oxide, stearic acid, and clay on the combustive properties based on EPDM/PP were investigated. The EPDM/PP/clay nanocomposites was compounded to prepare specimen for combustive analysis by cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). It was found that the combustive properties in the nanocomposites decreased due to the fire resistance compared with unfilld EDPM/PP. The nanocomposites showed the lower peak heat release rate (PHRR) than that of virgin EPDM/PP, while stearic acid for softening ruber increased the mean heat release rate (MHRR) by itself, combustible.

This paper presents a study on the analysis for activation time and threshold value of heat detection sensor using HRR(Heat Release Rate). And it is represented to quantity of heat to activate heat detection sensor. The experiment is conducted to measure activation time and HRR of fire detection sensor burning alcohol and n-heptane. In order to burn the alcohol and n-heptane using $43.5cm(L){\times}43.5cm(W){\times}5cm(D)$ and $33cm(L){\times}33cm(L){\times}5cm(D)$ steel pan and the quantity of alcohol and n-heptane are 2.5 L and 650 g, respectively. The results show that peak HRR are in case of alcohol 66.13 kW and in case of n-heptane 151.64 kW, respectively. Total heat releases of heat detection sensor are in case of alcohol approximately 20.7 MJ and in case of n-heptane approximately 18 MJ, respectively.
The Purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between the local heat release rate and CH concentration have been investigated by numerical simulations of methane-air premixed flames. And simultaneous CH and OH PLIF(Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) measurement has been also conducted for lean premixed flame as well as for laminar flames. Numerical simulations are conducted for laminar premixed flames and turbulent ones by using PREMIX in CHEMKIN and two dimensional DNS code with GRI mechanism version 2.11, respectively. In the case of laminar premixed flame, the distance between the peak of heat release rate and that of CH concentration is under $91{\mu}m$ for all equivalence ratio calculated in present work. Even for the premixed flame in high intensity turbulence, the distribution of the heat release rate coincides with that of CH mole fraction. For CH PLIF measurements in the laminar premixed flame burner, CH fluorescence intensity as a function of equivalence ratio shows a similar trend with CH mole fraction computed by GRI mechanism. Simultaneous CH and OH PLIF measurement gave us useful information of instantaneous reaction zone. In addition, CH fluorescence can be measured even for lean conditions where CH mole fraction significantly decreases compared with that of stoichiometric condition. It was found that CH PLIF measurements can be applicable to the estimation of the spatial fluctuations of heat release rate in the engine combustion.
Heat release rates of main combustibles in residence area were measured by a calorimeter using oxygen consumption method. It was found that the peak heat release rates of the combustibles were 1.0MW for a refrigerator, 0.8MW for a desk, 4.2MW for a wardrobe and 0.4MW for a bed. Especially, the refrigerator and wardrobe were found to be very hazardous because of their fast fire growth rate.
In this study, we tried to evaluate the ignitibility, flammability, heat release rate, and toxicity of five different types of burning artificial leather sofa covers that are widely used in entertainment service industry buildings. As the results of this study, putting the artificial leathers under fire conditions we found out following results auto-ignition temperature was$ 427~437^{\circ}C$, limiting oxygen index was 19~20%; at heat flux of $25 kW\m^2$, ignition time was 10~16s and peak heat release rate was $147~277 kW\m^2$; and at heat flux of$ 35 kW\m^2$, ignition time was 6~9s and peak heat release rate was $176~296 kW\m^2$. The toxic materials discharged from the burning leathers were 5,550~6,290 ppm of CO, 18,500~23,400 ppm of $CO_2$, 110~140 ppm, of HCl, 13~65 ppm of HCN and 145~220 ppm of NOx.
Heat release characteristics of live fire load are an important parameter for performance oriented fire safety design of a building. While investigations have been carried out on the fire load and its burning behavior in office, residential and commercial buildings and so on, little effort has been paid for the rational treatment of fire load in bookstore. In this report, burning behavior of typical combustible objects in bookstore are studied by measuring heat release rates of bookshelf with book. Based on the results, it has reviewed fire safety when a fire accident occurs on the large bookstore and suggested peak heat release rate per burning surface, fire growth rate, etc of the live fire load required for fire safety design in bookstore.
This study describes to assess combustion characteristics of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) that is used an elements of building or structure in workplace. The combustion characteristics of the fiber reinforced plastic were carried out using by a Cone Calorimeter according to ISO 5660 standard. As the results of this study, the time to ignition and heat release rate of the fiber reinforced plastic was differ with heat flux of irradiance and content of flame retardant agent. The heat release rate of the fiber reinforced plastic was increased with increasing heat flux of irradiance. The flashover propensity of the fiber reinforced plastic using time to ignition and peak heat release rate was examined according to classification method by R.V. Petrella.
