In this study, the synthesis of PZT powder by bubble column reactor was investigated at various reaction conditions. As a result, the volume % of $NH_3$ gas used as a precipitator had no effect on the synthesis, but the more research is needed to control particle size.As a carrier gas, Ar, $O_2$ and air only increased the stirring effect but had no effect chemically on the synthesis. The calcination temperature of prepared PZT powder was about $500-600^{\circ}C$ and the meanparticle size of synthesized PZT powder was about $0.17{\mu}m$. The grain size of sintered body is about $0.5~3{\mu}m$ and this is similar with the value of commercial products.
Authors investigated the size distribution and mass fraction of dusts in work environment of Changwon industrial complex. Size distribution of suspended dusts in welding and grinding processes were evaluated using ambient cascade impactors. The mass median diameters of dusts were 0.25 to $0.60 \mu m$ at welding sites and 1.20 to $1.92 \mu m$ at grinding sites. Respirable mass fractions were 63.68 to 73.50% at welding sites and 43.24 to 51.47% at grinding sites. Respirable fractions were calculated from the size distribution data for the ACGIH criteria by the respirable particle mass. In case of dust removal system, electrostatic precipitator and bag filter were appropriate for welding process and grinding process, respectively.
Wet foams formed through direct foaming were stabilized using various concentrations of amiphiphilic particles that could control pore size and porosity. These porous materials showed moderate strength upon compression with high porosity. Bubble size and wet foam stability were tailored by amphiphile concentration, particle concentration, contact angle, and pH of the suspension to obtain crack-free porous solid after sintering. Closed and open pores were obtained with sizes of 30~300 ${\mu}m$ and porosities of over 80%.

Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to assess workers' exposure to carbon nanotubes(CNTs) and characterize particles aerosolized during the process of producing CNT-enabled polytetrafuoroethylene(PTFE) composites at a worksite in Korea. Methods: Personal breathing zone and area samples were collected for determining respirable concentrations of elemental carbon(EC) using NIOSH(National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) Method 5040. Personal exposure to nano-sized particles was measured as the number concentration and mean diameter using personal ultrafine particle monitors. The number concentration by particle size was measured using optical particle sizers(OPS) and scanning mobility particle sizers(SMPS). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) area samples were collected on TEM grids and analyzed to characterize the size, morphology, and chemistry of the particles. Results: Respirable EC concentrations ranged from 0.04 to 0.24 ㎍/㎥, which were below 23% of the exposure limit recommended by NIOSH and lower than background concentrations. Number concentrations by particle size measured using OPS and SMPS were not noticeably elevated during CNT-PTFE composite work. Instant increase of number concentrations of nano-sized particles was observed during manual sanding of CNT-PTFE composites. Both number concentrations and mean diameters did not show a statistically significant difference between workers handing CNT-added and not-added materials. TEM analyses revealed the emission of free-standing CNTs and CNT-PTFE aggregate particles from the powder supply task and composite particles embedded with CNTs from the computer numerical control(CNC) machining task with more than tens of micrometers in diameter. No free-standing CNT particles were observed from the CNC machining task. Conclusions: Significant worker exposure to respirable CNTs was not found, but the aerosolization of CNTs and CNT-embedded composite particles were observed during handing of CNT-PTFE powders and CNC machining of CNT-PTFE composites. Considering the limited knowledge on the toxicity of CNTs and CNT composite particles to date, it seems prudent to take a precautionary approach for the protection of workers' health.

This study carried out the density and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and particle size analysis which are the physical characteristics of coal dust by collecting samples of coal dust in the five domestic mines to control the coal dust through ventilation in the workplace for coal mining in the country. This will contribute to a more comfortable working environment by understanding the physical characteristics of the coal dust which is derived from any hard coal produced domestically. In particular, the result of PSA analysis showed that the size of coal dust sample for this study ranged from $0.007{\sim}88.614{\mu}m$ were the particles less than $3.5{\mu}m$, the size range responsible for pneumoconiosis. To observe the flow of coal dust collected on the wind speed, the fallout of coal dust produced by the wind tunnel for the wind was measured and the particle size analysis of coal dust fallout was carried out. In addition, airborne dust is measured according to the mine velocity by using a multi-stage Anderson sampler in the mine where fine dust is generated in a large amount and the wind speed is found out to control the coal dust below $3.5{\mu}m$. In addition, natural ventilation pressure of A mine was calculated to prevent over design of the main fan.
The control of the surface energy by electrohydrodynamic force provides electrospraying with various potential advantages such as simple particle size control, mono-dispersity, high recovery, and mild processing conditions. The advantages are quite helpful to improve the stability of protein drug and control its release. Herein, the nano-encapsulation of protein drugs using electrospraying was investigated. Albumin as a model protein was processed using uniaxial and co-axial electrospraying, and chitosan, polycaporlactone (PCL), and poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) were used as encapsulation materials. The major processing parameters such as the conductivity of spraying liquids, flow rate, the distance of electrical potential gradient, etc were measured to obtain the maximum efficiency. In the chitosan systems, mean particles size decreases as flow rate and the distance between nozzle and the collecting part decreases. In the uniaxial technique of the PCL systems, mean particles size decreases as flow rate decreases. In the coaxial technique of the PCL systems, it was found that the particles size gets larger under the application of the higher ratio of inner-to-outer liquid flow rates. The primary particles formed out of an electrospraying nozzle showed narrow particle size distribution, but once they arrived to the collecting part, aggregation behavior was observed obviously. Efficient nano-encapsulation of albumin with PCL, PEG, and chitosan was conveniently achieved using electrospraying at above 12 kV.

This study is an overview of toxicities and measurement techniques of ultrafine particles (UFPs), and their exposure controls. UFPs are ubiquitous in many working situations. Exposure to UFPs is possibly causing adverse health symptoms including cardio-respiratory disease to humans. In order to measure exposure levels of airborne UFPs, there are current available measurement guidelines, instruments and other techniques (i.e. contour mapping, control banding). However, these risk assessment techniques including measurement techniques, controls and guidelines are dependent on background levels, metrics (e.g. size, mass, number, surface area, composition), environmental conditions and controls. There are no standardized measurement methods available and no generic and specific occupational exposure standards for UFPs. It is thought that there needs to be more effort to develop Regulations and Exposure Standards for generic UFPs should be based on more exposure data, health surveys, toxicological data and epidemiological data. A carefully considered hierarchy of controls can also reduce the maximum amount of airborne UFPs being emitted from diverse sources in industries.
The deposition characteristics of ultrafine $SiO_2$ particles were investigated in a tube furnace reactor theoretically and experimentally controlling tube wall temperature in deposition zone. The model equations such as mass and energy balance equations and aerosol dynamic equations inside reactor and deposition tube were solved to predict the particle growth and deposition. The particle size and deposition efficiencies of $SiO_2$ particles were calculated, changing the process conditions such as tube furnace setting temperature, total gas flow rate inlet $SiCl_4$ concentration and were compared with the experimental results.
The characteristics of spray-dried granules are important for dry pressing operation since they have great influences on die-filling, compaction ratio, and resulting green microstructure. An attempt was made to control granule morphology and the packing structure of fine Si3N4 particles in granules by adjusting suspension property. Mercury porosimetry was used to characterize the pore structures of both granules and green compacts. Finally, the effects of particle packing structure in granules and green microstructure on sintering behavior were investigated.
The influence of reaction conditions on the MnZn ferrite coprecipitation process were investigated using mixed metla sulfate solution and ammonium oxalate. In order to minimize the metallic ion losses and to control the particle size, the optimum reaction conditions were as follows; reaction temperature $25^{\circ}C$, metal sulfate concentration 0.3M, molar ratio of ammonium oxalate/mixed metal sulfate 1.1:1. The production yield was as high as 97.6% of theoretical yield at optimum reaction condition.
