This paper proposes a c-fuzzy model tree using partial least square method to predict the Chlorophyll-a concentration in each zone. First, cluster centers are calculated by fuzzy clustering method using all input and output attributes. And then, each internal node is produced according to fuzzy membership values between centers and input attributes. Linear models are constructed by partial least square method considering input-output pairs remained in each internal node. The expansion of internal node is determined by comparing errors calculated in parent node with ones in child node, respectively. On the other hands, prediction is performed with a linear model haying the highest fuzzy membership value between input attributes and cluster centers in leaf nodes. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, we have applied our method to water quality data set measured at several stations. Under various experiments, our proposed method shows better performance than conventional least square based model tree method.
The objectives of this study were to develop models to predict the contents of moisture and protein of single kernel of brown rice based on visible/NIR (near-infrared) spectroscopic technique. The reflectance spectra of rice were obtained in the range of the wavelength 400 to 2,500 nm with 2 nm intervals. Multiple linear regression(MLR) and partial least squares (PLS) were used to develop the models. The MLR model using the first derivative spectra(10 nm of gap) with Standard Normal Variate and Detrending (SNV and Drt.) preprocessing showed the best results to predict moisture content of the sin린e kernel brown rice. To predict the protein content of a single kernel of brown ricer the PLS model used the raw spectra with multiplicative scatter correction(MSC) preprocessing over the wavelength of 1,100~1,500 nm.
In this paper, we propose a constrained optimization model for conjoint analysis (a preference decomposition technique) to improve parameter estimation by restricting the relative importance of the attributes to an extent as decided by the respondents. Quite simply, respondents are asked to provide some pairwise attribute comparisons that are then incorporated as additional constraints in a linear programming model that estimates the partial preference values. This data collection method is typical in the analytic hierarchy process. Results of a simulation study show the new model can improve the predictive accuracy in partial value estimation by ordinal east squares (OLS) regression.
This paper introduces an eigenvalue method of transforming the hyperbolic partial differential equations of a particular unsteady friction water hammer model into characteristic form. This method is based on the solution of the corresponding one-dimensional Riemann problem that transforms hyperbolic quasi-linear equations into ordinary differential equations along the characteristic directions, which in this case arises as the eigenvalues of the system. A mathematical justification and generalization of the eigenvalues method is provided and this approach is compared to the traditional characteristic method.

This paper presents an inventory model with partial backorders for the situation in which demand is deterministic, lead time follows normal distribution and back order ratio during the stockout period varies in proportion to the length of backorder period In this situations, an objective function is formulated to minimize a time-proportional backorder cast and a fixed penalty cost per unit lost. And then the procedure of iterative solution method for the model is developed to find optimal reorder paint and order quantity and a numerical example to illustrate the proposed method is presented.

This paper presents some practical design issues that should be carefully considered when a notch filter is included in a linear feedback controller. A notch filter is generally used to compensate the effects of resonant modes that may result in poor performance. It is very common that the practical engineers prefer to add such a notch filter after having previously designed a feedback controller without the filter. It is known that the resulting performance by this approach is not seriously different from when a feedback controller is designed for a plant previously compensated by a notch filter. However, we will point out that there are some cases where both approaches have different performances. In order to show this, a low-order controller design using the partial model matching method has been applied to a linear time invariant (L Tn model. The results suggest that there is a tendency to achieve much better time responses in terms of reducing the overshoot and shortening the settling time, and in the frequency domain characteristics such as the sensitivity function and the stability margins when the design of a feedback controller after including a notch filter is carried out.

This study was conducted to measure the moisture content of powdered food using RF impedance spectroscopic method. In frequency range of 1.0 to 30㎒, the impedance such as reactance and resistance of parallel plate type sample holder filled with wheat flour and red-pepper powder of which moisture content range were 5.93∼-17.07%w.b. and 10.87 ∼ 27.36%w.b., respectively, was characterized using by Q-meter (HP4342). The reactance was a better parameter than the resistance in estimating the moisture density defined as product of moisture content and bulk density which was used to eliminate the effect of bulk density on RF spectral data in this study. Multivariate data analyses such as principal component regression, partial least square regression and multiple linear regression were performed to develop one calibration model having moisture density and reactance spectral data as parameters for determination of moisture content of both wheat flour and red-pepper powder. The best regression model was one by the multiple linear regression model. Its performance for unknown data of powdered food was showed that the bias, standard error of prediction and determination coefficient are 0.179% moisture content, 1.679% moisture content and 0.8849, respectively.

The variable transformations are useful ways to guarantee the functional relationships in the model. However, the presence of outliers may undermine the accuracy of transformation. This paper deals with response transformations in the partial linear models under the existence of outliers. A new procedure for response transformation and outliers detection is proposed. The procedure uses a sequential method for identifying outliers and dynamic graphical methods for an appropriate transformation. The graphical tools make it possible to catch diagnostic information by monitoring the movement of points in the data. The procedure is illustrated with several examples. Examples show that visual clues regarding the optimal transformation, the fittness of the model and the outlyness of the observations can be checked from the series of plots.

Free non-linear vibration of a rotating thin ring with a constant speed is analyzed when the ring has both the in-plane and out-of-plane motions. The geometric non-linearity of displacements is considered by adopting the Lagrange strain theory for the circumferential strain. By using Hamilton's principle, the coupled non-linear partial differential equations are derived, which describe the out-of-plane and in-plane bending, extensional and torsional motions. The natural frequencies are calculated from the linearized equations at various rotational speeds. Finally, the computation results from three non-linear models are compared with those from a linear model. Based on the comparison, this study recommends which model is appropriate to describe the non- linear behavior more precisely.
In this work, superharmonic and subharmonic resonance of rotating stiffened FGM truncated conical shells exposed to harmonic excitation in a thermal environment is investigated. Utilizing classical shell theory considering Coriolis acceleration and the centrifugal force, the governing equations are extracted. Non-linear model is formulated employing the von Kármán non-linear relations. In this study, to model the stiffener effects the smeared stiffened technique is utilized. The non-linear partial differential equations are discretized into non-linear ordinary differential equations by applying Galerkin's method. The method of multiple scales is utilized to examine the non-linear superharmonic and subharmonic resonances behavior of the conical shells. In this regard, the effects of the rotating speed of the shell on the frequency response plot are investigated. Also, the effects of different semi-vertex angles, force amplitude, volume-fraction index, and temperature variations on the frequency-response graph are examined for different rotating speeds of the stiffened FGM truncated conical shells.
