The insulation diagnostic tests was performed at local thermal power plants high voltage motor. The insulation diagnostic tests include measurements of insulation resistance, polarization index, AC current, $tan{\delta}$, partial discharges. This paper describes Insulation characteristics for high voltage motor which located by inside and outside.
Since one decade, the detection of HFPD (High frequency Partial Discharge) has been proposed as one of the effective method for the diagnosis of the power component under service in power grids. As a tool for HFPD detection, Metal Foil sensor based on the embedded technology has been commercialized for mainly power cable due to its advantages. Recently, for the on-site noise discrimination, several PA (Pulse analysis) methods have been reported and the related software, such as Neural Network and Fuzzy, have been proposed to separate the PD (Partial Discharge) signals from the noises since their wave shapes are completely different from each other. On the other hand, the relevant fundamental investigation has not yet clearly made while it is reported that the effectiveness of the current methods based on PA is dependant on the types of sensors. Moreover, regarding the identification of the vital defects introducible into the Power Cable, the direct identification of the nature of defects from the PD signals through Metal Foil coupler has not yet been realized. As a trial for solving above shortcomings, different types of software have been proposed and employed without any convincing probability of identification. In this regards, our novel algorithm 'PA Map' based on the pulse analysis is suggested to identify directly the defects inside the power cable from the HFPD signals which is output of the HFCT and metal foil sensors. This method enables to discriminate the noise and then to make the data analysis related to the PD signals. For the purpose, the HFPD detection and PA (Pulse Analysis) system have been developed and then the effect of noise discrimination has been investigated by use of the artificial defects using real scale mockup. Throughout these works, our system is proved to be capable of separating the small void discharges among the very large noises such as big air corona and ground floating discharges at the on-site as well as of identifying the concerned defects.
In order to apply the partial discharge measuring technique utilizing electrical pulse to the transformer at sites, this paper describes the measuring technique obtaining only the signals due to internal partial discharge in the transformer, but the noises due to external corona which has been a major problem so far. At first, partial discharge and corona noise were simultaneously generated in the model transformer by using needle-plane electrodes and rod-sphere electrodes out of it in a high voltage laboratory, respectively. It was verified that only the partial discharge signals in the transformer could be measured by removing the noise signals from the superposed signals of partial discharges and noises on the grounding wire of the model transformer. By application to a 345kV transformer in service, it was also confirmed that the partial discharge could be on-line monitored by removing the noise signals measured by the inductance sensor on the grounding wire of a 154kV lightning arrester from the superposed signals of internal partial discharge and external corona noise measured by bushing tap coupler of the transformer.
Partial discharges(PD) in air insulated electric power systems cause power loss, produce interfering electromagnetic radiation, and can indicate incipient failure. An understanding of PD in air gap is clearly important. The Wavelet transformation is an extended method of fourier transformation. The fourier method is a powerful tool for signal analysis, but it can't include informations for time. However tile wavelet transformation analysis can include on the informations of time and frequency at the same time. In this paper we apply the wavelet transformation to the PD signals in needle-plane air gap for tile purpose of analysis of developing aspects of PD. We can analyze the developing aspects of PD, namely, PD current, repetition rates, width of pulse distribution region, pulseless region and frequencies distribution of PD pulses.
During normal machine operation, partial discharge(PD) measurements were performed with turbine generator analyzer(TGA) in two high voltage motors. Two 6.6kV motors were installed with 80pF capacitive couplers at the terminal box. The PD patterns were displayed two dimensional and three dimensional. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantifies such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude(Qm). Off-line PD measurements were conducted on one 4.16kV motor. The motor was energized to 2.4kV, 3.0kV, 3.5kV and 4.16kV, respectively. The PD levels in pC were measured with a conventional digital PD detector. The comparison of positive to negative PD indicates whether the defect elements of PD are within the insulation or on the insulation surface. Discharge at conductor surface was discovered in No. 1 motor. Internal discharges were generated in phase A, B and C of No. 2 motor, Slot discharges occurred in three phases of No. 3 motor.
Reduction in pollution performance of polymeric insulators, aged due to water absorption stress and thermal stress, is a major threat to the reliable operation of power transmission and distribution system. Formation of partial discharges on the surface of wet polluted insulator plays a major role in determining the life time and pollution performance of outdoor polymeric insulators. However, reports on partial discharge characteristics of water absorption stress aged and thermal aged polymeric insulators are scanty. This paper discusses the pollution performance characteristics of accelerated aged polymeric insulators using the advanced ultra wide band PD signal measurement and analysis. Laboratory experiments on accelerated aged polymeric insulators were carried out as per IEC 60507 under AC voltage, at different humidity and contamination levels using NaCl as a contaminant. PRPD pattern and Time-Frequency map analysis of PD signals were carried out. From the results, it can be speculated that PD analysis is a well suited technique to understand the pollution performance of aged polymeric insulators.
This paper describes measurement and diagnosis methods for enclosed switchboards using antenna. In the laboratory partial discharges are generated on a needle-plate electrode configuration, the detected electromagnetic wave is analyzed by FFT. The detected electromagnetic wave in real enclosed switchboards is also analyzed by FFT, which is compared with frequency spectra of the laboratory to detect the partial discharge. The relationship between the partial discharge characteristics and the electromagnetic wave has been discussed.
Assessing the condition of air insulation by measuring electromagnetic wave generated in it by partial discharges gives warning of developing faults and breakdown which may give some bad effects to other thing concerned with it. Electromagnetic wave are taken from UHF antenna with 20k ~ 2GHz frequency range. The signal waveform and FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) results from UHF antenna for PD(partial discharge) generated from two different electrode(needle-plane, needle-needle) configurations are shown and it is processed by using PRPD($\Phi-q-n$ distribution) method. Cumulative pulse sequence during 100 period is compared with PRPD method. This also will show the possibility of making apparent distinction between two PD sources.
This paper describes measurement and diagnosis methods for electromagnetic wave using a VHF(Very High Frequency) antenna. In the laboratory partial discharges are generated on a needle-plate and a plate-plate configuration. The detected electromagnetic wave is analyzed by FFT(Fast Fourier Transform). We propose a methode to classify creeping partial discharge and corona partial discharge that are detected in three frequency bands.
