  • Region of interest (ROI) is the most informative part of a medical image and mostly has been used as a major part of watermark. Various shapes ROIs selection have been reported in region-based watermarking techniques. In region-based watermarking schemes an image region of non-interest (RONI) is the second important part of the image and is used mostly for watermark encapsulation. In online healthcare systems the ROI wrong selection by missing some important portions of the image to be part of ROI can create problem at the destination. This paper discusses the complete medical image availability in original at destination using the whole image as a watermark for authentication, tamper localization and lossless recovery (WITALLOR). The WITALLOR watermarking scheme ensures the complete image security without of ROI selection at the source point as compared to the other region-based watermarking techniques. The complete image is compressed using the Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) lossless compression technique to get the watermark in reduced number of bits. Bits reduction occurs to a number that can be completely encapsulated into image. The watermark is randomly encapsulated at the least significant bits (LSBs) of the image without caring of the ROI and RONI to keep the image perceptual degradation negligible. After communication, the watermark is retrieved, decompressed and used for authentication of the whole image, tamper detection, localization and lossless recovery. WITALLOR scheme is capable of any number of tampers detection and recovery at any part of the image. The complete authentic image gives the opportunity to conduct an image based analysis of medical problem without restriction to a fixed ROI.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of children's understanding of fractions in mathematics problem solving. Kieren has claimed that the concept of fractions is not a single construct, but consists of several interrelated subconstructs(i.e., part-whole, ratio, operator, quotient and measure). Later on, in the early 1980s, Behr et al. built on Kieren's conceptualization and suggested a theoretical model linking the five subconstructs of fractions to the operations of fractions, fraction equivalence and problem solving. In the present study we utilized this theoretical model as a reference to investigate children's understanding of fractions. The case study has been conducted with 6 children consisted of 4th to 5th graders to detect how they understand factions, and how their understanding influence problem solving of subconstructs, operations of fractions and equivalence. Children's understanding of fractions was categorized into "part-whole", "ratio", "operator", "quotient", "measure" and "result of operations". Most children solved the problems based on their conceptual structure of fractions. However, we could not find the particular relationships between children's understanding of fractions and fraction operations or fraction equivalence, while children's understanding of fractions significantly influences their solutions to the problems of five subconstructs of fractions. We suggested that the focus of teaching should be on the concept of fractions and the meaning of each operations of fractions rather than computational algorithm of fractions.

  • Mathematics teachers' content knowledge is an important asset for effective teaching. To enhance this asset, teacher's knowledge is required to be diagnosed and developed. In this study, we employed problem-posing and problem-solving tasks to diagnose preservice teachers' understanding of fraction multiplication. We recruited 41 elementary preservice teachers who were taking elementary mathematics methods courses in Korea and the United States and gave the tasks in their final exam. The collected data was analyzed in terms of interpreting, understanding, model, and representing of fraction multiplication. The results of the study show that preservice teachers tended to interpret (fraction)×(fraction) more correctly than (whole number)×(fraction). Especially, all US preservice teachers reversed the meanings of the fraction multiplier as well as the whole number multiplicand. In addition, preservice teachers frequently used 'part of part' for posing problems and solving posed problems for (fraction)×(fraction) problems. While preservice teachers preferred to a area model to solve (fraction)×(fraction) problems, many Korean preservice teachers selected a length model for (whole number)×(fraction). Lastly, preservice teachers showed their ability to make a conceptual connection between their models and the process of fraction multiplication. This study provided specific implications for preservice teacher education in relation to the meaning of fraction multiplication, visual representations, and the purposes of using representations.

  • Some children can construct a basic concept of addition and subtraction during the preschool years. Children start to experience mathematics via numbers and their of operations and contact with various contexts of addition and subtraction. In special, word problems reflect mathematics which is appliable to real life. In this paper, I analyse the types of word problems in text book and its students' responses. First, I analyse the types of addition word problems which consist of change add-into situations and part-part-whole situations. Second, I analyse the types of subtraction word problems which consist of change take-away situations, compare situations and equalize situations. Third, I analyse the students' responses by the types of word problems in addition and subtraction. And 115 2nd grade elementary school students participated in this survey. The following results have been drawn from this study. First, the proposition of word problems of part-part-whole situations is higher than that of change add-into situations and the proposition of word problems of take-away situations is higher than that of compare situations and equalize situations. According to the analysis about students' responses, It is no difference between change add-into situations and part-part-whole situations. But the proposition of word problems of take-away situations is higher than that of compare situations and equalize situations. This results from word problems which contain unnecessary information in problem. So, we have to present the various word problems to students.

  • As factory automation is required, using the vision system is also essential. Especially, the pateh planning of parts with J-lead on PCB plays a import role of whole automation. Path planning is required because J-lead is scatteed compaed to L-lead on PCB. Therefore, in this paper, we propose path planning of part inspection with J-lead to use Hopfield Model(TSP : Traveling Salesman Problem). Then optical system suited to J-lead inspection is designed and the algorithm of J-lead solder joint and part inspection is proposed.

  • Main debates in the modern geographical thoughts had been developed around the regional geography. Because regional geography had been regarded as a raison d'etre of geography, it remains solid status in geography curriculum. But unscientific nature of regional geography was the main problem of modern geography. Modern geography has developed the logical legitimation of regional geography, instead of research procedures. We examine the logic of modern geographical thoughts from 3 worldview. Here we represented the part - the whole relationship as the primary category, and classify these into three type according to the implicit proposition about the relationship. One is the organic view, which assume that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. This view was the primary proposition held by the modem geographers. This view regarded the region as organic complex, and presume the unit region which is irreducible to the elements. The other is mechanic view, which presuppose that the whole is the sum of the parts. This view comprehend region by means of spatial order, in order to simplify the complex reality. Then we compare real condition with assumption. These two view held static assumption. Now, the third view regarded the part- the whole relationship as being dynamic. Most geographers held the organic view, although someone suggests the idea of harmony, the others suggests the idea of complex. But these view presumes the pre-industrial society in which the genre de vie was main principle of social order. Therefore It could not comprehend the regional concept in the context of the urbanization and industrialization.

  • In general, when geometry and current distribution have a periodic or symmetric property, the analysis of a part model is sufficient to represent that of a whole model by using the periodic boundary condition. It is impossible, however, to apply the periodic boundary condition when the current distribution is not symmetric even if the geometry of the model is symmetric. In this paper, a novel technique to resolve this problem is proposed. Even when the geometry is symmetric and the current distribution is not, the proposed method enables that calculation time for a whole model is reduced to that for a part model. The proposed method is applied to a deflection yoke (DY), and validness and efficiency of the method are verified.

  • Configuration is a set of building block processes, a series of selection and combining parts or components which composes a whole thing. A whole thing could be such a configurable object as manufacturing product, network system, financial portfolio, system development plan, project team, etc. Configuration problem could happen during any phase of product life cycle: design, production, sales, installation, and maintenance. Configuration has long been one of cost and time consuming work, because only high salaried technical experts on product and components can do configuration. Rework for error adjustments of configurations at later process causes far much cost and time, so accurate configuration is required. Under the on-line electronic commerce environment, configuration problem solving becomes more important, because component-based sales should be done automatically on the merchant web site. Automated product search, order placement, order fulfillment and payment make that manual configuration is no longer feasible. Automated configuration means that all the constraints among components should be checked and confirmed by configuration engine automatically. In addition, technical constraints and customer preferences like price range and a specific function required should be considered. This paper gives an brief overview of configuration problems: characteristics, representation paradigms, and solving algorithms and introduce CRSP(Constraint and Rule Satisfaction Problem) method. CRSP method adopts both constraint and rule for configuration domain knowledge representation. A survey and analysis on web sites adopting configuration functions are provided. Future directions of configuration for EC is discussed in the three aspects: methodology itself, companies adopting configuration function, and electronic commerce industry.

  • In order to reduce the cost of product and save the processing time, optimal nesting of two-dimensional part is an important application in number of industries like shipbuilding and garment making. There have been many studies on finding the optimal solution of two-dimensional nesting. The problem of two-dimensional nesting has a non-deterministic characteristic and there have been various attempts to solve the problem by reducing the size of problem rather than solving the problem as a whole. Heuristic method and linearlization are often used to find an optimal solution of the problem. In this paper, theoretical and practical nesting algorithm for rectangular, circular and irregular shape of two-dimensional parts is proposed. Both No-Fit-Polygon and Minkowski-Sum are used for solving the overlapping problem of two parts and the dynamic programming technique is used for reducing the number search spae in order to find an optimal solution. Also, nesting designer's expertise is complied into the proposed algorithm to supplement the heuristic method.

  • Umbilical cord blood has been recently considered an attractive potential alternative as a source of stem cell transplantation to curing diseases such as leukemia, cancers, immune disorders. Normally the stored system of the umbilical cord blood specimen is equipped with a computer-controlled robotic arm that enables the samples to locate the identification places in liquid nitrogen tank at regulated temperature as about $-196^{\circ}C$. As the half of robotic arm is in the air and the rest part is submerged in liquid nitrogen, the temperature of robotic arm varies from ambient to liquid nitrogen temperature. In this study the temperature variation of upper part of arm above tank lid was thermally analysed by using the commercial code of Ansys. The result of analysis was that the upper part of robotic arm was seriously frozen due to heat transfer from liquid nitrogen as low as -$120^{\circ}C$. In order to solve the frost problem of robotic arm, small PTFE tube block as resistance material was introduced into the lower part of tank lid instead of the whole stainless steel(SUS) robotic arm. The results showed that the temperature of robotic arm above the lid was higher enough, and this method would be one of the very effective measure to solve the problem.
