  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine whether the maternal and paternal value of children mediates the relationship between the marital relationship satisfaction and the parental sense of competence in the longitudinal dyadic approach. Method: The data were obtained from the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC) conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education. Using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model(APIM), the author analyzed three waves (from 5th to 7th year) of the data, and the sample size was 1,773. The average age was 34.79 for mothers, and 37.26 for fathers. Their average length of marriage was 95.3 months, and their children were 51.03 months old on average. Results: The marital relationship satisfaction influenced the parental sense of competence with both the actor effect and the partner effect of mothers and fathers. The marital relationship satisfaction also influenced the value of children, with the actor effect from both mothers and fathers and with the partner effect only from mothers. The value of children influenced the parental sense of competence with the actor effect only from mothers and fathers. Also, the value of children mediated the relationship between the marital relationship satisfaction and the parental sense of competence with the actor effect from both mothers and fathers. For the partner effect, only the mediation path from fathers' marital relationship satisfaction to mothers' value of children to mothers' parental sense of competence was significant. Conclusions: These results suggest the importance of highlighting the marital relationship satisfaction and the value of children to improve the parental sense of competence.

주의력결핍/과잉행동장애 아동 가족의 삶의 질 영향 요인 (Factors Influencing Family Quality of Life among Mothers of Children with ADHD)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the level of quality of family life, parental locus of control, and parental sense of competence, and to elucidate factors that influence family quality of life in the mothers of children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). Method: A convenient sample of mothers from 6 child psychiatric clinics was used in this cross-sectional survey design. Questionnaires used for data collection included the following scales: Family Quality of Life, Parental Locus of Control-Short Form Revised, Parental Sense of Competence. Results: The level of family quality of life was mid-range. A positive relationship was found between Family Quality of Life and the research variables. The significant predictors of family quality of life were parental locus of control, parental sense of competence, and duration of medication and these variables accounted for 21.8% of the variance in family quality of life. Conclusions: These results indicate that family quality of life is an important factor which health care provider should assess and evaluate for children with ADHD and their families. The results of this study suggest that family quality of life is an important link with parental sense of competence and parental locus of control.

유아의 기질과 어머니의 양육효능감이 양육행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Preschoolers' Temperament and Parenting Sense of Competence on Mothers' Parenting Behavior)

  • This study examined the relationship among preschoolers' temperament, parenting sense of competence, and mothers' parenting behavior. It also examined the mediating effects of parenting sense of competence on the relationship between preschoolers' temperament and mothers' parenting behavior. A total of 155 mothers with preschoolers aged 3 to 4(83 boys and 72 girls), living in Seoul, participated in this study. The mothers completed questionnaires designed to measure preschoolers' temperament, parenting sense of competence, and mothers' parenting behavior. The results indicated that preschoolers' temperament and mothers' parenting sense of competence were significantly related to warmth/acceptance and rejection/restriction. Additionally, preschoolers' temperament was significantly related to parental efficacy and dissatisfaction. Furthermore, parenting sense of competence mediated the relationship between preschoolers' temperament and mothers' parenting behavior. In particular, it was found that parental efficacy fully mediated the relationship between preschoolers' activity level and mothers' rejection/restriction. These findings imply that improving mothers' parenting sense of competence needs to be emphasized in designing prevention and intervention programs aimed at enhancing mothers' positive parenting behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of paternal parenting sense of competence, paternal satisfaction, conflict-coping behaviors, and preschooler's emotional regulation on preschooler's social skills. Participants were 85 5- to 6-year-old preschoolers(41 boys, 44 girls) and their fathers. The Social Skill Rating Scale(Suh, 2004), the Parenting Sense of Competence(Shin & Chung, 1998), the Parental Satisfaction Scale(Seo & Lee, 2002), Conflict-coping behaviors(Cho & Kim, 2000) and the Emotional regulation(Kim & Kim, 1999) were used. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The major findings were summarized as follows: (1) there were no differences between the boys' and girls' social skills. (2) parental satisfaction and emotional regulation explained social skills - cooperation. (3) conflict-coping behaviors(rationality and request for others) and emotional regulation explained social skills - self-control. (4) emotional regulation explained social skills - assertion. In conclusion, parental satisfaction, conflict-coping behaviors, and preschooler's emotional regulation influence differently according to the subscale of preschooler's social skills.

대학생이 지각하는 어머니의 심리적 통제가 자기결정성을 통해 공모전 참여 동기에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Perceived Parental Psychological Control of College Students on the Participate Motivation to the Contest through Self-determination factors)

  • 최근 대학생들에게 공모전은 취업을 위한 중요 기회로 인식되고 있다. 이때 대학생들에게 가해지는 부모의 심리적 통제는 자녀의 정서 및 심리적 욕구를 독립되도록 도와주지 않고 의사결정과 표현을 억압하여 자율성의 발달을 막을 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 대학생이 인지하는 부모의 심리적 통제가 자기결정성을 통해 공모전 참여 동기에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 부모의 심리적 통제 중 분리불안 심리적 통제가 자기결정성 중 유능성에만 부정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부모의 심리적 통제 중 성취지향 심리적 통제는 자기결정성 모두에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자기결정성 중 유능성은 즐거움과 금전적 보상 그리고 타인의 인정에는 긍정적인 영향을, 성취감에는 부정적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 자기결정성 중 관계성은 공모전 참여 동기 중 즐거움과 금전적 보상 그리고 타인의 인정에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 대학생들의 공모전 참여 동기와 부모의 심리적 통제를 이해하는 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다.

자폐스펙트럼장애 아동 부모의 양육효능감 및 부모-아동 관계 증진을 위한 부모 주도 가정 기반 음악프로그램의 실행 가능성 (Feasibility of a Parent-Led Home-Based Music Program to Enhance Parental Competence and the Parent-Child Relationship for Parents of Children With ASD)

  • 본 연구에서는 ASD 아동 부모가 자녀와 함께 가정에서 음악 프로그램을 직접 실행하는 것이 양육효능감과 부모-아동 관계 증진에 도움이 되는지 탐색하고자 하였다. 대상자는 만 3세-9세 사이의 ASD 아동의 부모 10명이 참여하였고, 각 부모는 주 1회, 30분씩 개별로 이루어진 사전 교육에 참여한 후 총 5주간 가정 기반 음악 프로그램을 실행하였다. 가정 기반 음악 프로그램은 부모가 가정에서 활용할 수 있는 음악을 적용한 활동을 구성하고, 아동과의 상호작용이나 부모가 활동에 관하여 결정하거나 조정할 수 있는 수준을 수용적인 수준에서부터 능동적, 자율적 수준까지 총 3단계로 구성하였다. 본 연구 결과, ASD 아동 부모가 한 주간 음악 활동을 실행한 평균 횟수는 2.5회, 평균 진행 시간 9.2분으로 나타났으며, 부모가 지각하는 '편안함'과 '자녀와의 상호작용에 도움이 된 정도'의 인식이 점차 증가하는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 부모의 양육효능감, 부모-아동의 '친밀감' 영역에서도 유의한 수준의 긍정적 변화가 나타났으며, 대상자들은 프로그램의 적용 가능성을 긍정적으로 평가하였다. 이러한 결과는 ASD 아동의 가족을 지원할 때, 가족의 고유한 특성과 필요를 고려하는 중요성과 다양한 음악 활용 방안을 지원하는 전략의 필요성을 시사한다. 본 연구에서 도출된 결과 및 부모의 보고 내용을 통해 수집된 자료는 추후 가정 기반 음악 활동 및 프로그램에서 실행 가능한 수준과 범위, 고려 사항을 제안하는 데 유용한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

주의력결핍 과잉행동장애 아동 어머니의 대상관계와 부모양육행동 (The Relationship between Object Relations and Parenting Behavior of Mothers of ADHD Children)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to compare the object relations and parenting behavior of the mothers of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with that of the mothers with normal children. Methods : In this study, we studied 64 mothers of children who were diagnosed with ADHD and 90 mothers of normal children. The mothers completed the Bell Object Relations Inventory (BORI), the Parenting Behavior Inventory (PBI), the Parenting Stress Index (PSI) and the Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) scale. Results : As compared with the mothers of normal children, the mothers of children with ADHD showed significantly different results for the parenting stress and parenting efficacy. For parenting behavior, the mothers of children with ADHD perceived their mothering as being more neglectful. On the other hand, the mothers of the normal control group perceived their mothering as being more affectionate and the fathers as being more reasonable and monitoring. Conclusion : This study suggests there is a significant difference of object relation between the mothers of children with ADHD and the mothers with normal children. The object relation pathology of the mothers of children with ADHD might contribute to impaired parenting behavior. The result of the present study indicate that inadequate grandparental rearing behavior affects the insecure object relation of their child (the mother), and a mother's insecure object relation affects their parental stress and parenting efficacy.

한국판 아동용 부모자녀관계 척도 표준화 연구 (Standardization Study for the Korean Version of Parenting Relationship Questionnaire-Children)

  • The PRQ instrument is parental perspectives of the parent-child relationship. It measured parent-child dimensions that include attachment and involvement. Also, it provides additional information on parenting style, parenting stress and satisfaction with the child's school. This study tested reliability and validity of the Korean version of Parenting Relationship Questionnaire-Child (K-PRQ-C). The K-PRQ-C was administered to parents of 713 elementary school children including 362 boys and 351 girls. They were from 1st to 6th grade children who were recruited form 4 elementary schools in Korea. Reliability was tested through internal consistency. We conducted confirmatory factor analysis. Moreover, scale inter-correlation was conducted for validity test. Discriminant validity conducted through administration to the parents of clinical children with emotional and behavior disorders. Construct validity was also examined through Korean version of the Parenting Sense of Competence. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the similar factor structures exist for PRQ-C and K-PRQ-C. The results showed a high level of internal consistency as well as construct and discriminant validity. These results showed valid psychometric properties for the K-PRQ-C. The K-PRQ-C provides a reliable and valid means of gathering information about the parent-child relationship. We discussed Implications for the use of the K-PRQ-C as a clinical tool and as a research instrument.

신체적 장애아 가족의 스트레스와 적응 과정에 관한 고찰 (Stress and Adaptation in Family with Physical Disabled Children)

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between family stress and adaptation in families with a disabled child through literature review using McCubbin's Double ABCX family crisis framework. The literature review focused on (1) family stress and factors affecting family stress, (2) the critical individual, familial and social resources which families acquire and employ over time in managing crisis situation. (3) the changes in definition and meaning families develop in an effort to make sense out of their predicament. (4) the coping strategies families employ. and (5) the range of outcomes of these family efforts The results showed that families reported financial difficulties and the burden of care-giving demands as major family stressors. Siblings of disabled children manifested depressive symptoms and social isolation. but was not consistent study results. The parents' views of the cause of the disabling condition fundamentally affected their behavior toward their disabled child. Especially. the fathers' views of the child's characteristics made the greatest contribution to positive changes in the mothers' perceptions. The term perceived social support refers to the cognitive appraisal by individuals that they are cared for and valued, that significant others are available to them if needed, and that they are satisfied with their interpersonal relationships. The perceived social support was more protective than social support source. network size and network density. Parental adaptation was found to be related to the child's communication competence rather than family coping strategies proposed by Lazarus and Folkman. One study results showed that there was no difference in depressive symptoms and physical health between mothers with a disabled child and those without all though mothers with a disabled child had negative attitudes and perceived themselves as having significantly less social support and lower family functioning. But a longitudinal study revealed decreases in the negative impact of the child and increases in sibling and overall family adaptation.

아버지의 양육스트레스에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Parenting Stress of Fathers)

  • This paper investigates the parenting stress of fathers who have preschooler. At first, a causal model constructed, including the parenting stress as a dependent variable and the psychological characteristics of paternal self-esteem and parenting efficacy as parameters. Based on the change of parenting stress, self-esteem and parenting efficacy according to various pertinent to fathers, the causal effect of various variables effecting on the paternal parenting stress is analyzed. The SPSS PC program was used for the statistical analysis, where fully exploited were frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, Cronbach α, one-way analysis(ANOVA), path analysis. The results can be summarized into 3 parts, in conclusion: 1) The younger a father is, the higher paternal self-esteem becomes. Paternal self-esteem trend was there, for a father who is a member of large family, and for a father whose education level is high, and for a father whose occupation is professional. Regarding parenting sense of competence, a father shows confidence when he has more income, more educated and less children. 2) The variable analysis effecting on the parenting stress dut to the paternal environment shows that a father feels more stress when his income is less and his spouse is working. The sub-factor analysis on the parenting stress shows that 'typical stress dut to the parenting' increases when his income is less and his spouse is working, and 'pressures pertaning to the parental role and distress' increases for a father with less income, working spouse, less educated and non-professional job. Further 'guilty to the parenting by others' shows higher for a father with less income and a working spouse. 3) The path analysis, which were performed to check the causality of the parenting stress dut to various variables, shows that the self-esteem and the parenting efficacy are significant factors directly effecting on the paternal parenting stress, and the job-satisfaction and marriage-satisfaction are significantly effecting on the parenting stress both directly and indirectly.
