  • This study was performed to evaluate the importance of parents, knowledge, cognition and behaviour about dental health care on the development of dental caries in preschoolers. Subjects were comprised of 170 preschoolers collected from three preschoolers placed in Pusan and Kimhae area and study period were 6 months from January, 2000. Examination on the preschoolers' dental health and questionnarie survey on parents' knowledge, cognition and behaviour about dental health care were conducted. Collected data were analyzed by chi-square test and t-test using SAS program. Dental caries was so prevalent as the rate of 73.5%. And, the rate was different by the area(p=0.001), and increased with preschooler's age(P=0.004). The parents gain the knowledge about dental health care mainly from dentist or dental hygienist(32.9%), newspaper, magazine booklets(26.5%), TV and VTR tape(20.0%), etc, but rarely from school health education(4.7%). Caries prevalence was significantly lower in case of regular brushing than that of insufficient brushing(p=0.002) and in case of consistently informing brushing time to their children(p=0.014). This results showed that the dental health care for preschoolers is insufficient and the most important factor for caries prevention is regular brushing. And it seemed that the parent's concern and knowledge play an important role for the prevention of preschooler's dental caries. Dental health education would be focused on the parents, especially for the practice of preventive behavior by preschoolers themselves.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and coping skills among middle school students. Method: The participants were 674 students in three middle schools in GyeongGi-Do. The data were collected from June 10 to 20, 2005. The instruments used were the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale and the Ways of Coping Checklist. The data were analyzed using the SPSS-Win 12.0 program. Result: Self-esteem showed a significant positive correlation with positive coping skills (r= .162. p= .000). As for the positive coping skills, there was a significant difference by grade (F= 4.69, p= .010), relationship with parent (F=4.036, p= .02), and relationship with siblings (F=3.902, p= .02). As for the negative coping skills, there was a significant difference by grade (F=3.05, p= .04), condition of living with parents (F=3.559, p= .02), economic status (F=3.736, p= .02), relationship with sibling (F=3.408, p= .03), and troubling matters (F=5.422, p= .005). Conclusion: Positive coping skills may be effective for adjustment because they positively related to self-esteem. Self-esteem and coping skills should be considered when an adolescent's mental health enhancement program is designed.

Method: The data was collected by a survey for 270 students from a middle school and a high school in G city. The valid 262 cases were analyzed by frequency, descriptive analysis with SPSS 18.0 and tested by structural equation model by using AMOS 18.0 program. Results: Results showed that 1) 'control' among the parenting behaviors has positive effects on the cyber delinquency in adolescents, 2) 'intimacy and rationality' among the parenting behaviors has positive impacts on the moral sensitivity, 3) it shows that moral sensitivity has negative effects on the cyber delinquency in adolescents, and 4) bootstrapping test for indirect effect of moral sensitivity was verified significantly. We founded the full mediation of moral sensitivity and the path of 'intimacy and rationality' to cyber delinquency through moral sensitivity. Conclusions: The results implied 1) provision of the parent education and program for parents and newlyweds to learn positive parenting behaviors and 2) application of moral education to develop moral sensitivity of adolescents in schools and communities.

The data collected were analyzed using the SPSS Process Macro program to investigate the sequential mediating effects. Results: The study found that the mothers' play support beliefs were directly associated with their preschoolers' happiness. Additionally, the creative home environment was found to mediate the relationship between the mother's play beliefs and their preschooler's happiness. The children's playfulness was also identified as a mediator in the relationship between the mother's play beliefs and their preschooler's happiness. Furthermore, the findings of this study indicated that the relationship between the mother's play beliefs and preschoolers' happiness was sequentially mediated by the creative home environment and preschoolers' playfulness. Conclusion/Implications: Findings of this study provide insights into the potential development of a parent education program aimed at modifying mothers' play beliefs and the home environment.

  • Multicultural Family Support Centers (MFSC) have provided five program areas including family, gender equality, human rights, social integration, and counseling since 2015. It is important to examine the MFSC staff's perceptions of the family programs and program needs for multicultural families to improve the effectiveness of these programs. In this study, we aim to explore the staff's perceptions of the family programs and to assess multicultural family program needs based on the family life cycle. A total of 130 MFSC staff were recruited through 128 MFSCs across Korea. Descriptive statistics were conducted for data analysis. Our findings revealed that MFSC staff have increasingly recognized that their target audiences are not only marriage immigrants and their families but also foreign workers' families and families from North Korea. In addition, the MFSC staff identified the importance of family programs instead of only programs for individual family members and multicultural families' different program needs based on their family life cycle. Contrary to the positive perception of the family programs, they described challenges of the family programs including a shortage of funds, difficulty recruiting family member combinations (e.g., couples, parent-child) for family programs, a lack of a program manual, and a heavy workload. This study provides insights into the family programs including their development and delivery.

Data was collected through a questionnaire survey given to 420 students of middle school in Kwangju province. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, stepwise multi-regression analysis, Cronbach's $\alpha$, and Pearson's correlations coefficient. The major findings obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The proportion of internet addiction of adolescents was 9.1%. 2. Parent's control, positive family emotion and self-efficacy were proved to be the most significant variables. The internet addiction increased as the score of parent's control got higher, and the scores of the positive family emotion and the self-efficacy lower. 3. Because the positive family emotion was found to be a very important factor in determining internet addiction, this research proposes that the further family life education program should be developed to facilitate the normal family functioning in relations with preventing internet addiction.
