  • These days, the lifestyle of staycation, a holiday in which an individual or family stays and relaxes at home, or possibly taking day trips to local parks and museums and so on, has increased. For this reason, the market of loungewear has expanded and the meaning of it has developed as a separate home-wear. According to the reflection of this trend, various kinds of loungewear are sold from the internal and external brands; however, most of these loungewears are home-wear and have a training look where esthetic designs are needed. This study is done to benefit those who prefer organic products, known as LOHAS trend. In addition, we developed the loungewear fashion design products, which reflect the LOHAS trend that uses organic cotton for the S/S collection of 2012. The formation of space between body and textile by pleats in these designs on pants, skirts, tops, sleeves, capes connote the meaning of loungewear that give the wearers comfort. As a result of this study, we have reached these final conclusions. First, loungewear is suitable for featuring the human body structure. Second, organic costumes can be preferable and become superior if it combines both functional and aesthetic appreciations. Third, eco-costumes can become more of a formal wear as eco-design achieves qualitative improvement.

  • This oral history study explores the past and present Japanese menswear custom-tailoring culture. Two master tailors with more than 50 years of experience and two young tailors with less than a year of experience were interviewed about the tailor training process and environment, working conditions, thinking and behavior, and societal and governmental efforts for vitalizing custom-tailoring. The results indicate, first, a 10-year apprenticeship was required in the past, whereas young tailors today must register for three-year professional tailoring classes. Tailors then and now have been trained in a similar sequence of pants, vests, and jackets. Second, regarding working conditions, tailors had to provide gratitude services to their masters for a few years, even after their training ended. In contrast, young tailors today must continue a probationary period after their three-year schooling; however, they experience difficulty with finding tailoring shops for their probation. Third, in terms of thinking and behavior, master tailors learned their trade to earn a living, whereas young tailors today entered the field due to their interests in it. In addition, young tailors want a systematic learning process, whereas master tailors learned their skills while on the job. Last, tailoring academies today are run by tailoring shops and societies. Career exploration programs are offered to elementary and middle school students by the Kobe government in association with the local tailoring society to provide tailoring experiences.

  • The wide distribution of redox-sensitive elements (RSE) as arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), selenium (Se), and strontium (Sr) in the top soil of Siwaqa area are related to the weathering action of alkaline surface and groundwater on the parent rocks. The bioavailability, distribution, sorption, and ecotoxicity of As, Cd, Se, and Sr, of the wild plants and top soils in the study area were investigated. A total number of 23 surface soil samples and 23 plant samples were collected and analyzed for the most toxic elements. The uptake of elements by plants was dependent on the plant species and the concentration of elements in the soil. For example, Sr was the highest concentration in soil samples and plants, while Se was the lowest concentration in soil samples and pants. For the plants, the results showed that Bellevalia sp. had the highest elements uptake, while Allium rothii had the lowest elements uptake. The results of this work provide a valuable knowledge for understanding the bioavailability of some toxic elements in the soil and plants of Central Jordan. The results are expected to be of great help for the Jordanian Uranium Mining Company during their environmental risk assessments.

The subjects participated in adaptability assessments and appearance assessments of skinny jeans produced by 8 selected brands, to identify the pattern and measurements characteristics of jeans assessed to be superior in appearance and movement adaptability. The results of this study were as follows. First, according to the results of appearance assessment made by the specialist group, B brand earned the highest assessment in response to questions regarding if 'there is an appropriate amount of ease in the crotch area' on the front side and 'an appropriate amount of ease in the hip circumference area' on the back side. Based on the above results, Synthesizing the survey results and the appearance assessment and movement adaptability assessment results, we suggest that when drafting the pattern for the standard size of waist measurement 27 inches (67cm), the hip circumference should be given an appropriate amount of ease, of around -6.6cm (-7.2%). The thigh circumference should be set with an appropriate amount of ease, which is -5.3cm (-9.4%).
