  • SiC MOSFETs have been used to improve system efficiency in high frequency converters due to their extremely high switching speed. However, this can result in undesirable parasitic oscillations in practical systems. In this paper, models of the key components are introduced first. Then, theoretical formulas are derived to calculate the switching oscillation frequencies after full turn-on and turn-off in clamped inductive circuits. Analysis indicates that the turn-on oscillation frequency depends on the power loop parasitic inductance and parasitic capacitances of the freewheeling diode and load inductor. On the other hand, the turn-off oscillation frequency is found to be determined by the output parasitic capacitance of the SiC MOSFET and power loop parasitic inductance. Moreover, the shifting regularity of the turn-off maximum peak voltage with a varying switching speed is investigated on the basis of time domain simulation. The distortion of the turn-on current is theoretically analyzed. Finally, experimental results verifying the above calculations and analyses are presented.

  • The parameters of electromechanical modes offer considerable insight into the dynamic stability properties of a power system. This paper describes an initial result for extraction of dynamic parameters from synchrophasor measurements collected on the KEPCO system. Dominant modes of the system are estimated by oscillation detecting program in K-WAMS. The critical wide-area modes of KEPCO system have frequencies in the 0.4 to 0.7Hz range. And the local mode causing the low frequency oscillation of generators located on the west coast area has in the frequency 0.97 and 1.25 Hz, respectively. This results can serve as a reference in the future for reliable system operation in KEPCO system.

  • In this paper, the robust superconductor flywheel energy storage system(SFESS) controller using $H_{\infty}$ control theory was designed to damp low frequency oscillation of power system. The main advantage of the $H_{\infty}$ controller is that uncertainties of power system can be included at the stage of controller design. Both disturbance attenuation and robust stability for the power system were treated simultaneously by using mixed sensitivity $H_{\infty}$ problem. The robust stability and the performance for uncertainties of power system were represented by frequency weighted transfer function. To verify control performance of proposed SFESS controller using $H_{\infty}$ control, the closed loop eigenvalue and the damping ratio in dominant oscillation mode of power system were analyzed and nonlinear simulation for one-machine infinite bus system was performed under disturbance for various operating conditions. The results showed that the proposed $H_{\infty}$ SFESS controller was more robust than conventional power system stabilizer (PSS).

  • Effects of rotary oscillation on unsteady laminar flow past a circular cylinder have been investigated in this study. Numerical simulations are performed for the flow at Re=100 in the range of 0.2<$\Omega$<2.5 and 0.02<$St_f$<0.8, where $\Omega$ and $St_f$ are, respectively, the maximum rotation velocity and rotation frequency normalized by the free-stream velocity and cylinder diameter. Results show that rotary oscillation has significant effects on the flow. When the rotation frequency is near the natural vortex-shedding frequency, lock-on occurs and the lock-on frequency range becomes wider as the rotation velocity increases. In a certain range of the rotation frequency and velocity, modulations in the velocity, lift and drag signals occur and this modulation frequency is expressed as a linear combination of the rotation frequency and vortex-shedding frequency. The mean drag and amplitude of the lift fluctuations show local minima near the boundary between the lock-on non and lock-on regions.

  • Plasma oscillation has been observed during the development of the glow discharge as detector for gas chromatography. The variation of oscillation frequency shows the better stability and detection limits than the changes in the dischange curent. To investigate the range of useful operating conditions and to gain insight into the mechanism, the effect of experimental parameters on plasma oscillation have been studied. This study includes the variation of discharge current, pressure and discharge gap. Frequency ranges of 10KHz to 10MHz have been observed with the various shapes of oscillation. Two kinds of mode for oscillation are observed with the variation of electrode gap at low pressure and low voltage.

  • The ATS system is used to provide wayside signaling. Currently, the oscillation frequency is set at 78[kHz] in the normal state. As the on-board receiver crosses over the wayside transmitter, the oscillation frequency is changed by capacitors of the wayside transmitter in a manner dependent on the train speed. As the oscillation frequency is changed, the waveform is modified in the wayside transmitter as well as in the on-board receiver. When there are other signal systems such as a ATO system present near the wayside transmitter, frequency interference occurs. This phenomenon arises since other signals or communication frequencies present will be included in the waveform. Trains often stop due to these other frequencies included in the waveform. In this paper, a model of the interaction between the wayside transmitter and on-board receiver is suggested and frequency response in the wayside transmitter and on-board receiver in the presence of the other signals are estimated by the coupling coefficient. Also, the coupling coefficients are estimated, and the optimal value is proposed.

  • Condition monitoring has been recognized as an effective and low-cost method to enhance the reliability and improve the maintainability of power electronic converters. In power electronic converters, high-frequency oscillation occurs during the switching transients of power transistors, which is known as ringing. The ringing frequency mainly depends on the values of the parasitic capacitance and stray inductance in the oscillation loop. Although circuit stray inductance is an important factor that leads to the ringing, it does not change with transistor aging. A shift in either the inside inductance or junction capacitance is an important failure precursor for power transistors. Therefore, ringing frequency can be used to monitor the health of power transistors. However, the switching actions of power transistors usually result in a dynamic behavior that can generate oscillation signals mixed with background noise, which makes it hard to directly extract the ringing frequency. A frequency extraction method based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Fast Fourier transformation (FFT) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is simple and has a high precision. Simulation results are given to verify the ringing analysis and experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Oscillation-based testing of analog-to-digital converters represents a viable option for low-cost built-in self-testing in mixed-signal design. While numerous papers have addressed implementation issues, little attention has been paid to the measurement accuracy. In this letter, we highlight an inherent measurement uncertainty which has to be considered when deriving the parameters from the oscillation frequency.

  • 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ DFB with absorption grating of 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ InGaAsP layer was fabricated. This new type of DFB laser shows self-plusation for DC operation. At low level of injection the relation between the pulsation frequency and the injection current shows similar behavior with the relaxation oscillation of ordinary laser and at high level of injection the pulsation frequency decreases compared to the relaxation oscillation. Period doubling, period 3 and 4 were observed for AC modulation. In case of period doubling the waveform shows only one pulse within a period without any accompanying subsidiary pulses and the oscillation frequency was quite stable. The pulse widths as short as 58.5 ps was achieved with AC modulation. We propose the time division multiplexing application of this kind of DFB laser.
