  • A novel carrier-based PWM (CBPWM) strategy of a three-level NPC converter is proposed in this paper. The novel strategy can eliminate the low-frequency neutral point (NP) voltage oscillation under the entire modulation index and full power factor. The basic principle of the novel strategy is introduced. The internal modulation wave relationship between the novel CBPWM strategy and traditional SPWM strategy is also studied. All 64 modulation wave solutions of the CBPWM strategy are derived. Furthermore, the proposed CBPWM strategy is compared with traditional SPWM strategy regarding the output phase voltage THD characteristics, DC voltage utilization ratio, and device switching losses. Comparison results show that the proposed strategy does not cause NP voltage oscillation. As a result, no low-frequency harmonics occur on output line-to-line voltage and phase current. The novel strategy also has higher DC voltage utilization ratio (15.47% higher than that of SPWM strategy), whereas it causes larger device switching losses (4/3 times of SPWM strategy). The effectiveness of the proposed modulation strategy is verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • The concept of virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) is a valuable means for improving the frequency stability of microgrids (MGs). However, a great virtual inertia in a VSG's controller may cause power oscillation, thereby deteriorating system stability. In this study, a small-signal model of an MG with two paralleled VSGs is established, and a control strategy for maintaining a constant inertial time with an increasing active-frequency droop coefficient (m) is proposed on the basis of a root locus analysis. The power oscillation is suppressed by adjusting virtual synchronous reactance, damping coefficient, and load frequency coefficient under the same inertial time constant. In addition, the dynamic load distribution is sensitive to the controller parameters, especially under the parallel operation of VSGs with different capacities. Therefore, an active power increment method is introduced to improve the precision of active power sharing in dynamic response. Simulation and experimental is used to verify the theoretical analysis findings.

  • The general output circuit for PWM output is pushpull using a complimentary MOSFET. The gate driver coupled directly at gate can switch easy upto a high frequency. However, a high reverse recovery current and parastic components make a oscillation output. This paper analyses this phenomenon and proposes a novel output circuit preventing the oscillation.

  • The oscillation character of permanent magnetic motor is highly related to its slot-pole match. By calculating air-gap magnet field and radial electromagnetic force of 6-phase fractional-slot concentrated-winding permanent magnetic motor with slot-pole match of 48/44, 48/46, 48/50 and 48/52 under no load and load status, oscillation character of permanent magnetic motor is analyzed. A 20kW prototype with 48 slots and 44 poles is designed. With many sensors attaching to the corresponding parts, oscillatory acceleration is measured, and spectrum of oscillation frequency is recorded as well. The experiment results give proof to the analysis method for permanent magnetic motor oscillation in this paper.

  • An unknown linear time invariant plant with asymmetric oscillation in the output such as a static load disturbance. A saturation function nonlinear element is used to find the one point information in the frequency domain. An asymmetric self-oscillation caused by such as a static load disturbance saturation function feedback is analyzed. a new method to tune a PID controller based on the analysis is proposed in the presence of asymmetric oscillation. The proposed method does not require the knowledge of plant d.c. gain with an asymmetric oscillation in the plant output.

  • The sustained oscillation of rotor speed is often experienced in PWM inverter induction motor (IM) drive systems. In this paper the oscillation is investigated from the point of view of Hopf bifurcation theory. The sufficient and necessary conditions for existence of limit cycle are introduced to determine the bifurcation set in the stator voltage versus stator frequency plane. According to the conditions it is clarified that the bifurcation set inherently exists in the instable operation of IM. Moreover, it is numerically shown that the V/f curve can be adjusted to stabilize the sustained oscillation of rotor speed.

The DC characterization of PHTMT fabricated with the wide single recess methods is a maximum drain current density of 319.4 ㎃/mm and a peak transconductance of 336.7 ㎳/mm. The RF measurements were obtained in the frequency range of 1~50GHz. At 50GHz, 3.69dB of 521 gain were obtained and a current gain cut-off frequency(f$_{T}$) of 113 CH and a maximum frequency of oscillation(f$_{max}$) of 172 Ghz were achieved from this device. On the other hand, a maximum drain current of 367 mA/mm, a peak transconduclancc of 504.6 mS/mm, S$_{21}$ gain of 2.94 dB, a current gain cut-off frequency(f$_{T}$) of 101 CH and a maximum frequency of oscillation(f$_{max}$) of 113 fa were achieved from the PHEMT's fabricated by the .narrow single recess methods.methods.

  • Optically coupled linear isolation amplifier requires special care to avoid oscillation in actual applications. In this paper methods to analyze the frequency characteristics of the amplifier are proposed to reveal the cause of oscillation and to provide design guidelines. The loop gain of the amplifier obtained through the equivalent circuit model shows that the phase margin is too small to ensure stable operations. Methods to get non-oscillatory response are proposed and the resulting frequency responses are analyzed. The common method adding a small capacitor to the amplifier is shown to degrade the frequency bandwidth. The frequency response of output voltage explains the need of filter capacitor in output stage. The usefulness of the method is verified through experiments.

  • A system for measuring and adjusting the oscillating frequency of a balance wheel whick determins the accuracy of mechanical timers. The balance wheel oscillates rotatively suspended by a hair spring which is welded at the other end to the pivot tube. The natural oscillatory frequency of the balance wheel is determined by the length of hairspring from the balance wheel to the point if other parameters the length in the torsional oscillation model are not changed, so the frequency of the balance wheel can be adjusted to meet a requirement by the adjustment of the hairspring length using ultrasonic welding. And the movement of wheel teeth is measured in realtime by a high speed photo fiber sensor and Auto Correlation is used to find a more accurate oscillation period from the measured signal with some variations.

  • This paper presents a novel approach based on Prony method to analysis of small signal stability in power system. Prony method is a valuable tool in identifying transfer function and estimating the modal parameter of power system oscillation from measured or computed discrete time signal. This paper define the relative residue of time signal and propose the condition to select low frequency oscillation in each generator. This paper describes the application results of proposed algorithm with respect to KEPCO systems. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can be used as another tools of power systems analysis.
