  • V-I characteristics of Fe(100)/MgO(100)/Cu-phthalocyanine (CuPc)/Co hybrid magnetic tunnel junctions were investigated at different temperatures. Fe(100) and Co ferromagnetic layers were separated by an organic-inorganic hybrid barrier consisting of different thickness of CuPc thin film grown on a 2 nm thick epitaxial MgO(100) layer. As the CuPc thickness increases from 0 to 10 nm, a bistable switching behavior due to strong charging effects was observed, while a very large magenetoresistance was shown at 77 K for the junctions without the CuPc barrier. This switching behavior decreases with the increase in temperature, and finally disappears beyond 240 K. In this work, high-potential future applications of the MgO(100)/CuPc bilayer were discussed for hybrid spintronic devices as well as polymer random access memories (PoRAMs).

  • Organic- inorganic hybrid waterborne polyurethane (PUD) is synthesized by using hybrid polyol consist of carbonate (PCD), ester (PCL), and siloxane (PDSBP) in order to enhance anti-scratch property of PUD film. The diameter of graft type PUD emulsion is bigger than that of linear type PUD due to the graft structure of hydrophobic siloxane chain. The glass transition temperature of linear type PUD increase and the decomposition temperature of linear type PUD decrease with the content of PCD polyol. While, the decomposition temperature of graft type PUD almost same with increasing PDSBP content. The anti-scratch property and pencil hardness of graft type PUD improves as adding PDSBP polyol in the hybrid polyol system. When 9 wt% of PDSBP polyol is mixed, PUD films shows excellent anti-scratch property (~3.3 N), and pencil hardness (> 9 H).

  • In this study, the healing performance of hybrid self-healing concrete was investigated by mixing bacterial pellets(BP) and solid phase capsules(SC), respectively, based on organic-inorganic self-healing material(MC). Constant water head permeability test was applied as a method of evaluating the healing performance, and the healing rate and the healed crack width calculated by the equivalent crack width were used as evaluation indicies. As a result of the water permeability test, when the initial crack width was 0.3 mm, the healing rates of MC-BP and MC-SC were 2.1~3.0 %pt higher than that of MC, and the healed crack width of hybrid concrete increased by 0.017~0.018 mm. In conclusion, it was found that the self-healing performance was not significantly improved even if the two types of healing materials are used together.

  • We report thin-film organic moisture barriers based on polystyrene(PS) laminates deposition by PECVD for an encapsulation of OLEDs. The organic polystyrene thin-film has the benzene ring structure and high hydrophobic characteristics and it was polymerized by PECVD in dry process. Life time properties of Ca test were obtained 32 minutes at the RF 100W process conditions. From the AFM test, the roughness of multi-layer thin-film was more excellent rather than that of a single-layer thin-film. In addition, 5 layers of the multi-layer film properties were obtained 45 minutes. So that the optical and electrical properties were not affected with these plasma polymerized organic thin-film encapsulation. For life time improvement, the inorganic $Al_2O_3$ thin-film were deposited 5nm using ALD atomic layer deposition. The WVTR(Water Vaper Transmission Rate) value of hybrid thin-film encapsulation in the optimum process conditions was resulted by less than $10-3g/m^2/day$. From the results of experiment, plasma polymerized hybrid encapsulation was suggested as the flexible display applications.

  • The organic-inorganic hybrid polymer thin films were deposited using the gas phase method which known as molecular layer deposition (MLD). Titaniumchloride (TiCl4) and 1,4-phenylenediamine (PD) were used as monomers to deposit hybrid polymer. Self-terminating nature of TiCl4 and PD reaction were demonstrated by growth rate saturation versus precursors dosing time. Infrared spectroscopic and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to determine the chemical composition and state of hybrid polymer thin films. Layer by layer growth was showed by increasing UV-VIS absorption peak of hybrid polymer thin films.

  • Optical transparency and high diffraction efficiency are two essential factors for high performance of the photopolymer. Optical transparency mainly depends on the miscibility between polymer binder and photopolymerized polymer, while diffraction efficiency depends on the refractive index modulation between polymer binder and photopolymerized polymer. For most of organic materials, the large refractive index difference between two polymers accompanies large structural difference that leads to the poor miscibility and thus poor optical quality via light scattering. Therefore, it is difficult to design a high-performance photopolymer satisfying both requirements. In this work, first, we prepared a new phase-stable photopolymer (PMMA) with large refractive index modulation and investigated the optical properties. Our photopolymer is based on modified poly (methyl methacrylate) as a polymer binder, acryl amide as a photopolymerizable monomer, triethanolamine as initiator, and yellow eosin as a photosensitizer at 532 nm. Diffraction efficiency over 85% and optical transmittance over 90% were obtained for the photopolymer. Second, Organic-inorganic nanocomposite films were prepared by dispersing an aromatic methacrylic monomer and a photo- initiator in organic-inorganic hybrid sol-gel matrices. The film properties could be controlled by optimizing the content of an organically modified silica precursor (TSPEG) in the sol-gel matrices. The photopolymer film modified with the organic chain (TSPEG) showed high diffraction efficiency (> 90%) under an optimized condition. High diffraction efficiency could be ascribed to the fast diffusion and efficient polymerization of monomers under interference light to generate refractive index modulation. The TSPEG modified photopolymer film could be successfully used for holographic memory.

  • Since the scaling-down of IC devices has been reached to their physical limitations, several innovative packaging technologies such as 3D packaging, embedded packaging, and fan-out wafer level packaging (FOWLP) are actively studied. In this study the fabrication of organic-inorganic dielectric material was evaluated for the use of multi-structured redistribution layers (RDL) in FOWLP. Compared to current organic dielectrics such as PI or PBO an organic-inorganic hybrid dielectric called polysilsesquioxane (PSSQ) can improve mechanical, thermal, and electrical stabilities. polysilsesquioxane has also an excellent advantage of simultaneous curing and patterning through UV exposure. The polysilsesquioxane samples were fabricated by spin-coating on 6-inch Si wafer followed by pre-baking and UV exposure. With the 10 minutes of UV exposure polysilsesquioxane was fully cured and showed $2{\mu}m$ line-pattern formation. And the dielectric constant of cured polysilsesquioxane dielectrics was ranged from 2.0 to 2.4. It has been demonstrated that polysilsesquioxane dielectric can be patterned and cured by UV exposure alone without a high temperature curing process.

  • Poly-methylmetacrylate (PMMA) is mainly applied in the plastic manufacturing industry, but PMMA is weak and gradually got discolor. The strength of PMMA can be improved through organic-inorganic hybrid nano composites with inorganic nano particles such as, $SiO_2$ or ZrO. However, inorganic nano particles are mostly agglomerated spontaneously. In this study, the zeta potential is controlled using different types of organic solvent with different concentrations, dispersibillity of $SiO_2$ nano particles on the PMMA particle are analyzed. When 3 M acetic acid is used, absolute value of the zeta potential is higher, $SiO_2$ nano particle is well attached, and dispersed on the PMMA particle surface. Results indicate that the absolute value of the zeta potential affects the stability of $SiO_2$ dispersion.

  • Organic-inorganic composite membranes based on sulfonated poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone) (sPPES)/silica hybrid were prepared using the sol-gel process under acidic conditions. The sulfonation of PPES with concentrated sulfuric acid as sulfonation agent was carried out to prepare proton exchange membrane material. The behaviors of the proton conductivity and methanol permeability are depended on the sulfonation time (5-100 hr). The hybrid membranes composed of highly sulfonated PPES (IEC value: 1.42 meq./g) and silica were fabricated from different silica content (5-20 wt%) in order to achieve desirable proton conductivity and methanol permeability demanded for fuel cell applications. The silica particles within membranes were used for the purpose of blocking excessive methanol cross-over and for forming the path way to transport of the proton due to absorbing water molecules with ≡SiOH on silica. The presence of silica particles in the organic polymer matrix results in hybrid membranes with reduced methanol permeability and improved proton conductivity.
