The procedure to design the engine mount is briefly discussed and the optimum shape design process of engine mounting rubber using a parametric approach is suggested. An optimization code is developed to determine the shape to meet the stiffness requirements of engine mounts, coupled with the commercial nonlinear finite element program ABAQUS. A bush type engine mount used in a current passenger car is chosen for an application model. The shape from the result of the parameter optimization is determined as a final model with some modifications. The shape and stiffness of each optimization stage are shown and the stiffness of the optimized model along the principal direction is compared with the design specification of the current model. Finally, an overview of the current status and future works for the engine mount design are discussed.
A modified mechanical model of pre-pressed spring self-centering energy dissipation (PS-SCED) brace is proposed, and the hysteresis band is distinguished by the indication of relevant state variables. The MDOF frame system equipped with the braces is formulated in an incremental form of linear acceleration method. A multi-objective genetic algorithm (GA) based brace parameter optimization method is developed to obtain an optimal solution from the primary design scheme. Parameter sensitivities derived by the direct differentiation method are used to modify the change rate of parameters in the GA operator. A case study is conducted on a steel braced frame to illustrate the effect of brace parameters on node displacements, and validate the feasibility of the modified mechanical model. The optimization results and computational process information are compared among three cases of different strategies of parameter change as well. The accuracy is also verified by the calculation results of finite element model. This work can help the applications of PS-SCED brace optimization related to parameter sensitivity, and fulfill the systematic design procedure of PS-SCED brace-structure system with completed and prospective consequences.

Robust design in industry is an approach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic value in products and processes. Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise ratio(SN) to achieve the appropriate set of operating conditions where variability around target is low in the Taguchi parameter design. Taguchi has dealt with having constraints on both the mean and variability of a characteristic (the dual response problem) by combining information on both mean and variability into an SN. Many Statisticians criticize the Taguchi techniques of analysis, particularly those based on the SN. In this paper we propose a substantially simpler optimization procedure for robust design to solve the dual response problems without resorting to SN. Two examples illustrate this procedure. in the two different experimental design(product array, combined array) approaches.

The cascaded H-Bridge Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is used for protecting high voltage and large capacity loads from voltage sags. The LC filter in the DVR is needed to eliminate switching ripples, which also provides an accurate tracking feature in a certain frequency range. Therefore, the parameter optimization of the LC filter is especially important. In this paper, the value range functions for the inductance and capacitance in LC filters are discussed. Then, parameter variations under different conditions of voltage sags and power factors are analyzed. In addition, an optimized design method is also proposed with the consideration of multiple impact factors. A detailed optimization procedure is presented, and its validity is demonstrated by simulation and experimental results. Both results show that the proposed method can improve the LC filter design for a cascaded H-Bridge DVR and enhance the performance of the whole system.

A method of identifying structural parameters such as stiffness and damping coefficients at interfacial points of vibro-acoustic systems is suggested using an optimization technique. To identify the parameters using a numerical optimization algorithm, cost functions are defined. The cost function should be zero at the correct parameter values. To minimize the cost functions using an optimization technique, a design sensitivity analysis procedure is developed in the framework of the multi-domain FRF-based substructuring method. As a numerical example, a ladder-like structure problem is introduced. With known parameter values and different initial guesses of the parameters, convergence characteristics to the exact value are compared for the three cost functions. Investigating the contours of the cost functions, we find the first cost function has the largest convergent region to the correct value. As another practical problem, stiffnesses of engine mounts and bushings in a passenger car are identified. The numerical examples show that the proposed method is efficient and accurate even when applied to realistic problems.
This paper is presented that theoretical optimization design method in order to consider mass reduction for the structural safety In this paper, it described methods for reducing vibration in structural safety by the determination of the optimum sizes and locations of tunning masses through formal mathematical optimization techniques. The optimization procedure which employs the tunning masses and corresponding locations is developed. Design variables are systematically changed to achieve low values of shear without a large mass penalty. Three optimization methods ire developed and tested. The first is based on minimizing the modal shaping parameter which indirectly reduce the modal shear amplitudes corresponding to each harmonic of airload. The second method reduces these amplitudes directly and the third method reduces the shear as a function of time during a revolution of the blade. The first method works well for reducing the shear for one mode responding to a single harmonic of the airload but has been found in some bases to be ineffective for more than one mode.
This research is aimed to design and analyze the performance of double dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) using a pendulum and a spring-mass type absorber for reducing vibration of two-DOF vibration system. The conventional fixed-points method and genetics algorithm (GA) optimization procedure are utilized in designing the optimal parameter of DVA. The frequency and damping ratio are optimized to determine the optimal absorber parameters. The simulation results show that GA optimization procedure is more effective in designing the double DVA in comparison to the fixed-points method. The experimental study is conducted to verify the numerical result.

Viscoelastic damping materials are widely used to reduce noise and vibration because of its low cost and easy implementation, for examples, on the body structure of passenger cars, air planes, electric appliances and ships. To design the damped structures, the material property such as elastic modulus and loss factor is essential information. The four-parameter fractional derivative model well describes the dynamic characteristics of the viscoelastic damping materials with respect to both frequency and temperature. However, the identification procedure of the four-parameter is very time-consuming one. In this study a new identification procedure of the four-parameters is proposed by using an FE model and a gradient-based numerical search algorithm. The identification procedure goes two sequential steps to make measured frequency response functions(FRF) coincident with simulated FRFs: the first one is a peak alignment step and the second one is an amplitude adjustment step. A numerical example shows that the proposed method is useful in identifying the viscoelastic material parameters of fractional derivative model.

Pantograph design Process must be considered in terms of stability of aerodynamics and reduction of aeroacoustics. Furthermore pantograph needs to be insensible to severe circumstance condition like typhoon, tunnel, a change of season. In this paper, robust design of panhead sections is conducted based on the Taguchi's design of experiment method. In the aeroacoustic noise analysis, an acoustic analogy using the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings(FW-H) equation is used to calculate the flow induced sound pressure level in aeroacoustics. From the near-field CFD analysis data, the far-field noise is predicted at the positions of 25 m away from Pantograph. Based on aerodynamic(CFD) and aeroacoustic(FW-H) analysis data, the optimal sizing and Positioning of panhead elements are determined using robust design optimization method. Design parameters such as thickness, length and radius are controllable factors, while outdoor air temperature and atmospheric pressure are considered as uncontrollable factors in the context of Taguchi's approach. A number of CFD simulation and aeroacoustic analysis are performed based on orthogonal arrays. In this paper, two-step optimization method is used as a parameter design procedure. It is executed using signal to noise(S/N) ratio and analysis of means(ANOM) method. So Thus, an optimal level of design parameters Is extracted to minimize the disconnection ration between contact strips and catenary system, and reduce the far-field aeroacoustic noise.
