Real Time Traffic Signal Plan using Neural Network

  • In the past, when there were few vehicles on the road, the T.O.D.(Time of Day) traffic signal worked very well. The T.O.D. signal operates on a preset signal cycling which cycles on the basis of the average number of average passenger cars in the memory device of an electric signal unit. Now days, with increasing many vehicles on restricted roads, the conventional traffic light creates startup-delay time and end-lag-time. The conventional traffic light loses the function of optimal cycle. And so, $30-45\%$ of conventional traffic cycle is not matched to the present traffic cycle. In this paper we proposes electro sensitive traffic light using fuzzy look up table method which will reduce the average vehicle waiting time and improve average vehicle speed. Computer simulation results prove that reducing the average vehicle waiting time which proposed considering passing vehicle length for optimal traffic cycle is better than fixed signal method which doesn't consider vehicle length.

Study of Optimal Conditions Affecting the Photothermal Effect and Fluorescence Characteristics of Indocyanine Green

  • Indocyanine green (ICG) is a cyanine dye that has been used in medical diagnostics based on fluorescence imaging, and in medical therapy based on the photothermal effect. It is important to systematically understand the photothermal effect and fluorescence characteristics of ICG simultaneously. By varying a number of conditions such as laser power density, laser irradiation wavelength, concentration of ICG solution, and exposure time of laser irradiation, the intensity properties of fluorescence and the temperature change induced by the photothermal effect are measured simultaneously using a charge-coupled-device camera and a thermal-imaging camera. The optimal conditions for maximizing the photothermal effect are determined, while maintaining a relatively long lifetime and high efficiency of the fluorescence for fluorescence imaging. When the concentration of ICG is approximately 50 ㎍/ml and the laser power density exceeds 1.5 W/cm2, the fluorescence lifetime is the longest and the temperature induced by the photothermal effect rapidly increases, exceeding the critical temperature sufficient to damage human cells and tissues. The findings provide useful insight into the realization of effective photothermal therapy, while also specifying the site to be treated and enabling real-time treatment monitoring.

Estimation of the Flavor of Green Soybean during Storage from Single Pod Measurements using Dedicated Near-Infrared Transmission Spectrometer

  • Purpose: Green soybeans (edamame) are now an economically important and popular food product in Japan. In order to shorten breeding time and to decide an optimal harvest time, we have been developing a dedicated NIRT spectrometer since 2004 for the determination of constituent content such as sucrose and free amino acids, which are two major contributors to the eating quality, in a single pod green soybean. Methods: The obtained models showed that the developed NIRT instrument had reasonable accuracy for the determination of these two components. Then we carried out the investigation into the change in two components during a few days storage using these models with changing time, variety/cultivar, packaging and temperature. Results: The result showed that the most affecting factor on decreasing both sucrose content and free amino acids was variety/cultivar. The time, packaging and temperature also affected significantly in most cases.

  • 요즈음에는 GPS 및 GIS을 기반으로, 운전자에게 최단 경로탐색 및 예상도착시간을 인터넷 및 휴대폰으로 검색할 수 있다. 그러나, 아무리 좋은 자동항법 장치도 평균차량속도가 10-20 Km 일 때에는 최단경로를 생성할 수 없다. 그러므로 승용차대기시간과 평균차량속도를 개선하기 위해서, 서로 다른 교차로 길이 및 교차로 차선수 일때에도, 퍼지 적응 규칙을 이용한 최적녹색시간 알고리즘을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 인터넷을 이용해서 위험한 도로, 공사중인 도로 및 목적지 예상도착시간 및 최적의 교통상황을 예보하는 기능을 제공할 수 있도록 하였다.

감잎, 엉겅퀴, 뉴그린으로부터 플라보노이드성분의 추출 (Extraction of Flavonoid Components from Persimmon Leaf, Thistle and New Green)

  • 본 연구에서는 항산화성분 함량이 높다고 알려진 천연물인 감잎, 엉겅퀴, 뉴그린을 이용하여 유효성분을 추출하고 DPPH radical scavening activity와 플라보노이드성분 함량분석을 수행하였다. 추출에 사용된 추출용매로는 초순수와 주정을 이용하였고, 초순수-주정의 비율, 시료의 양, 추출시간, 추출온도 등을 변수로 설정하였다. 각 천연물의 최적추출조건은 추출시간(2.5~3.5 h), 시료의 양은 50 g/L이었고, 주정/초순수의 부피비와 추출온도의 경우 각각 감잎(55~65 vol%, $50{\sim}60^{\circ}C$), 엉겅퀴(40~50 vol%, $55{\sim}65^{\circ}C$), 뉴그린(55~65 vol%, $50{\sim}60^{\circ}C$)으로 나타났다. 또한 추출된 유효성분의 항산화능과 플라보노이드성분 함량분석 결과 감잎 > 엉겅퀴 > 뉴그린 순으로 크게 나타났다.

Effect of Extraction Conditions of Green Tea on Antioxidant Activity and EGCG Content: Optimization using Response Surface Methodology

  • Green tea, the leaves of Camellia sinsneis (Theaceae), is generally acknowledged as the most consumed beverage with multiple pharmacological functions including antioxidant activity. This study was performed to analyze the effect of extraction conditions of green tea on its antioxidant effects using DPPH assay. Three extraction factors such as extraction solvent (EtOH, 0 - 100%), extraction time (3 - 15 min) and extraction temperature ($10-70^{\circ}C$) were analyzed and optimized extraction condition for antioxidant activity of green tea extract (GTE) was determined using response surface methodology with three-level-three-factor Box-Behnken design (BBD). Regression analysis showed a good fit of data and the optimal conditions of extraction were found to be 57.7% EtOH, 15 min and $70^{\circ}C$. Under this condition, antioxidant activity of experimental data was 88.4% which was almost fit to the ideal value of 88.6%. As epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is known for the major ingredient for antioxidant activity of green tea, we investigated the effect of EGCG on antioxidant activity of GTE. EGCG showed antioxidant activity with the $IC_{50}$ value of $4.2{\mu}g/ml$ and a positive correlation was observed between EGCG content and the antioxidant activity of GTE with $R^2=0.7134$. Interestingly, however, GTE with 50 - 70% antioxidant activity contain less than $1.0{\mu}g/ml$ of EGCG, which is much lower than $IC_{50}$ value of EGCG. Therefore, we suppose that EGCG together with other constituents contribute to antioxidant activity of GTE. Taken together, these results suggest that green tea is more beneficial than EGCG alone for antioxidant ability and optimal extraction condition of green tea will be useful for the development of food and pharmaceutical applications

Development and Evaluation of a SYBR Green-Based, Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction for Rapid and Specific Detection of Human Coxsackievirus B5

  • Human Coxsackievirus B5 (HuCoxV-B5) infection has been associated with various diseases such as myocarditis, aseptic meningitis, hand-foot-and mouth-disease, and insulin-dependent diabetes. HuCoxV-B5 is a virus transmitted through the fecal-oral route and is detected in clinics, aquatic environments, food, shellfish, etc. and is one of the more important viruses in public health because of its incidence rate reported worldwide. In this study, a combination of SYBR Green-based real-time PCR primers for molecular diagnosis including monitoring of HuCoxV-B5 was selected and the optimal reaction conditions were established. Compared with the previously reported TaqMan probe-based real-time PCR method, assessments including a sample applicability test were performed. Results showed that the real-time PCR method developed in this study was suitable for a molecular diagnostic technique for detecting HuCoxV-B5. This study is expected to contribute to efforts in responding to safety accidents in public health because the proposed method facilitates rapid diagnosis of clinical patients. It can also be used as a specific monitoring tool of HuCoxV-B5 in non-clinical areas such as aquatic environments among others.

사이버-물리 교차로 시스템에서 참조이동모형 기반 녹색신호 최적화 가속도 조언의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory Based on Reference Mobility Models (GLOSA-RMM) in Cyber-Physical Intersection Systems (CPIS))

  • 본 논문에서는 교차로 주변의 고정된 위치에 있는 노변기지국과 WAVE/DSRC 기반 자동차통신단말, 그리고 스마트폰 앱을 긴밀하게 상호 연동하는 사이버-물리 교차로 시스템(CPIS)을 소개한다. CPIS 구조를 기반으로 교차로 정지시간과 연료소모를 줄이기 위한 참조이동모형 기반 녹색신호 최적화 속도조언(GLOSA-RMM)을 제안한다. GLOSA-RMM은 자동차의 다양한 참조이동모형들을 기반으로 자동차의 현재 위치/속도 정보와 교차로 교통신호 정보를 고려하여 적절한 속도조언을 결정하고, 이를 화면과 음성으로 동시에 제공하여 운전자의 부주의를 최소화한다. 임베디드 시스템 기반의 노변기지국과 자동차통신단말, 그리고 안드로이드 앱(App)의 개발을 통해 CPIS 시작품을 구축하고, 실차 환경에서 실험을 수행하여 GLOSA-RMM 알고리듬이 교차로 정지시간과 연료 소모를 줄일 수 있음을 보인다.

Computer Simulation: A Hybrid Model for Traffic Signal Optimisation

  • With the increasing number of vehicles in use in our daily life and the rise of traffic congestion problems, many methods and models have been developed for real time optimisation of traffic lights. Nevertheless, most methods which consider real time physical queue sizes of vehicles waiting for green lights overestimate the optimal cycle length for such real traffic control. This paper deals with the development of a generic hybrid model describing both physical traffic flows and control of signalised intersections. The firing times assigned to the transitions of the control part are considered dynamic and are calculated by a simplified optimisation method. This method is based on splitting green times proportionally to the predicted queue sizes through input links for each new cycle time. The proposed model can be easily translated into a control code for implementation in a real time control system.
