  • The study on the thermal and oil resistance rubber composite, 2016. [6] predicted the lifetime of Fluorocarbon Rubber by accelerating aging at high temperature ($150^{\circ}C$, $175^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$). general rubber products are likely to exhibit different properties depending on the degradation factors such as temperature, humidity, ozone, light, emulsion, mechanical and electrical stress. To solve these problems, We compared the rate of change about tensile strength, elongation rate, volume change rate, weight change rate, thickness change rate, thermal conductivity in low temperature promoting aging on the basis of predictive lifetime of high temperature promoting aging. As a result of the review, the required life expectancy was satisfied, but there was a slight difference in the rate of change between the high-temperature promoted aging life result and the low temperature promoted aging life result. The cause was a reduction in "tensile strength / elongation" and an increase in "volume / weight / thickness" caused by the main chain decomposition of fluorine rubber due to aging at high temperature promoting aging. However, the low temperature promoting aging was caused by the curing reaction of fluorine rubber at $80^{\circ}C$. The tensile strength / elongation and volume / weight / thickness changes were small.

  • Hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) is one of the hydrogen degradation phenomena of linepipe steels caused by $H_2S$ gas in the crude oil or natural gas. However, NACE TM0284-96 standard HIC test method is hard to satisfy the steel requirements for sour service application since it uses more severe environmental conditions than actual conditions. Therefore, in order to use steels effectively, it is required to evaluate HIC resistance of steels in the practical range of environmental severity. In this study, HIC resistance of two high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels being used as line pipe steels was evaluated in various test solutions with different $H_2S$ pressures and pH values. The results showed that the key parameter affecting crack area ratio (CAR) is $H_2S$ partial pressure of test solution when the pH value of test solution is not over 4. Hydrogen diffusivity was not a constant value, but it was rather affected by the hydrogen ion concentration (pH value) in the solution.

  • The heavy reliance on fossil fuels, especially oil and gas has triggered the global energy crisis. Continued use of petroleum fuels is now widely recognized as unsustainable because of their depleting supplies and degradation to the environment. To become less dependent on fossil fuels, current world is shifting paradigm in energy by developing alternative energy sources mainly through the utilization of renewable energy sources. In particular, bioenergy recovery from wastes with the help of microorganism is viewed as one of the promising ways to mitigate the current global warming crisis as well as to supply global energy. It has been proved that microorganism can generate power by converting organic matter into electricity using microbial fuel cells (MFCs). MFC is a bioelectrochemical device that employs microbes to generate electricity from bio-convertible substrate such as wastewaters including municipal solid waste, industrial, agriculture wastes, and sewage. Sustainability, carbon neutral and generation of renewable energy are some of the major features of MFCs. However, the MFC technology is confronted with a number of issues and challenges such as low power production, high electrode material cost and so on. This paper reviews the recent developments in MFC technology with due consideration of electrode materials used in MFCs. In addition, application of biocathodes in MFCs has been discussed.

  • Regeration of natural tissuesor to create biological substitutes for defective or lost tissues and organs through the use of cells. In addition to cells and their porous, drugs are required to promote tissue regeneration. Therefore, the present studies were prepared using simvastatim loaded porous poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) by double emulsion solvent evaporation water-in-oil-in-water technique (W/O/W) as drug delivery system strategies for injuring tissue. The resulting microspheres were evaluated for morphology, particle size, encapsulation efficiency, degradation of PLGA microspheres in vitro drug release and in vitro cell viability. Scanning electronic microscopic (SEM) showed that the porosities of the particles was changed by experimental conditions and cultured cells were attached well on porous microspheres surface. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calometry (DSC) analysis indicate thatsimvastatim was highly dipersed in the microsphere at amorphousstate.

  • Flow rate is one of the important variables for precise motion control and detection of the faults and fluid loss in many hydraulic components and systems. But in many cases, it is not easy to measure it directly. The orifice area of a servo valve by which the fluid flows is one of key factors to monitor the flow rate. In this paper, we have constructed an estimation algorithm for the effective orifice area by using the model of a servo valve cylinder control system and Kalman filter algorithm. Without geometry information about the servo valve, it is shown that the effective orifice area can be estimated by using only displacement and pressure data corrupted with noise. And the effect of the biased sensor data and system parameter errors on the estimation results are discussed. The paper reveals that sensor calibration is important in accurate estimation and plausible parameter data such as oil bulk modulus and actuator volume are acceptable for the estimation without any error. The estimation algorithm can be used as an useful tool for detecting leakage, monitoring malfunction and/or degradation of the system performance.

  • In order to the development of the delivery device of long-acting local anesthetics for postoperative analgesia and control of chronic pain of cancer patient, fentnyl-loaded poly (L-lactide-co-glycolido) (PLGA, molecular weight, 5,000 g/mole; 50 : 50 mole ratio by lactide to glycolide) microspheres (FMS) were studied. FMS were prepared by an emulsion solvent-evaporation method. The influence of several preparation parameters such as initial drug loading, PLGA concentration, emulsifier concentration, oil phase volume, and fabrication temperature has been investigated on the fentanyl release profiles. Generally, the drug showed the biphasic release patterns, with an initial diffusion followed by a lag period before the onset of the degradation phase, but there was no lag time in our system. Fentanyl was slowly released from FMS over 10 days in vitro with a quasi-zero order property. The release rate increased with increasing drug loading as well as decreasing polymer concentration with relatively small initial burst effect. From the results, FMS may be a good formulation to deliver the anesthetic for the treatment of chronic pain.

  • Diallyl disulfide (DADS), an oil-soluble organosulfur compound in garlic has been reported to suppress tumor growth and to induce apoptosis in cancer. In the present study, we investigated the effects of DADS on pulmonary metastasis of B16-F10 murine melanoma cells. DADS (i.p. 40 mg/kg) significantly (p<0.05) reduced the number of pulmonary metastatic nodules (48%) in experimental pulmonary metastasis assay. We also found that DADS inhibited adhesion, invasion and migration of B16-F10 melanoma cells in a dose-dependent manner. To study the antimetastatic potential of DADS, we performed the effects of DADS on matrix metalloproteinase activity. DADS significantly inhibited the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity in B16-F10 cells by gelatin zymography. These results suggest that DADS prevent metastasis in part through suppression of migration of B16-F10 melanoma cells by Inhibiting matrix metalloproteirase-2 responsible for degradation of extracellar matrix.

  • Numerous advanced reactor concepts have been proposed to replace light water reactors ever since their establishment as the dominant technology for nuclear energy production. While most designs seek to improve cost competitiveness and safety, the implausibility of doing so with affordable materials or existing nuclear fuel infrastructure reduces the possibility of near-term deployment, especially in developing countries. The organic nuclear concept, first explored in the 1950s, offers an attractive alternative to advanced reactor designs being considered. The advent of high temperature fluids, along with advances in hydrocracking and reforming technologies driven by the oil and gas industries, make the organic concept even more viable today. We present a simple, cost-effective, and safe small modular nuclear reactor for offshore underwater deployment. The core is moderated by graphite, zirconium hydride, and organic fluid while cooled by the organic fluid. The organic coolant enables operation near atmospheric pressure and use of plain carbon steel for the reactor tank and primary coolant piping system. The core is designed to mitigate the coolant degradation seen in early organic reactors. Overall, the design provides a power density of 40 kW/L, while reducing the reactor hull size by 40% compared with a pressurized water reactor while significantly reducing capital plant costs.
