Purpose: To assess the outcomes of increased fetal nuchal translucency (NT), to aid in prenatal counseling and management in our practice. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent first trimester fetal karyotyping using chorionic villi sampling (CVS) and second trimester level II sonography for a fetal NT thickness ${\geq}3.0mm$ between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days' gestation, at Gyeongsang National University Hospital. Pediatric medical records and a telephone interview were used to follow-up live-born children. Exclusion criteria included incomplete data and CVS for other indications. Results: Seventy cases met the inclusion criteria (median NT thickness, 4.7 mm; range, 3.0-16.1 mm). Twenty-nine cases (41.4%) were aneuploid. The prevalence of chromosomal defects increased with NT thickness: NT 3.0-3.4 mm, 16.7%; NT 3.5-4.4 mm, 27.3%; NT 4.5-5.4 mm, 66.7%; NT 5.5-6.4 mm, 37.5%; NT ${\geq}6.5mm$, 62.5%. The most common karyotype abnormality was trisomy 18 (n=12), followed by trisomy 21 (n=9). In chromosomally normal fetuses (n=41), fetal death occurred in 2 cases (4.9%), and structural malformations were found in 11 cases (26.8%). In chromosomally and anatomically normal fetuses (n=28), one child had neurodevelopmental delay (3.6%). Twenty-eight infants who had a prenatal increased NT were alive and well at follow-up (40%). Conclusion: Outcomes of increased fetal NT might help inform prenatal counseling and management. The high prevalence of chromosomal defects associated with increased fetal NT implies that CVS should be performed in the first trimester, particularly considering the stress associated with an uncertain diagnosis.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the tendency toward depression and fatigue in early postpartum women and to determine the relationship between the symptoms of these conditions, according to the women's Sasang constitutions. Methods: In this study, 73 healthy postpartum women were analyzed according to Sasang constitution: 33 Taeeumin, 22 Soyangin, and 18 Soeumin. Symptoms of depression and fatigue were assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale-K(EPDS-K) and the Fatigue Continuum Form(FCF), respectively, on the fourth(time 1), seventh(time 2), and fifteenth(time 3) days postpartum. Sasang constitutional types were determined by a medical specialist, using results from the Two Step Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Diagnosis(TS-QSCD). Results: 1. The overall depressive symptoms and fatigue scores decreased significantly over time in early postpartum women. 2. The mean scores for the EPDS and FCF were higher in the Soeumin group than in other groups. The scores for EPDS and FCF dropped sharply in comparison to a former level in the Soyangin group. And the mean EPDS score was lower in the Soyangin group than in other groups. The EPDS and FCF scores in the Taeeumin group changed slightly over time. However, these results were not statistically significant according to Sasang constitution. 3. The relationship between postpartum depression and fatigue showed a significant positive correlation. Conclusions: These results suggest that, in early postpartum women, depressive symptoms and fatigue differ according to Sasang constitution.

To improve in vitro embryonic cell development, this study was desigend to culture in vitro fertilized early embryos of mouse in two different systems; conditioned medium alone and ampullary cells co-culture. Thirty two of 83 embryos(38.6%) were blocked in the 2 cell stage by co-culture, as compared to forty of 42 embryos(95.2%) in control group for 24hours culture. And all the embryonic cells cultured for conditioned medium alone were blocked for 48 hours culture. Twenty seven of 46 embryos (58.7 %) which overcome culture block in 2 cell stage by cocultured were developed morular and expanded blastocyst, and ninteen of 46 embryos(26.1 %) underwent hatching for 96 hours culture. The cellular fragmented rates for embryo were 26.2% in medium alone; 10 fragmented blastomere were graded mild status and 1 fragmented blastomere in severe status. On the other hand, the fragmented rate for 48 hours co-cultured were 15.7%03/83); 8 fragmented embryos were graded mild status, moderate status in 3 fragmented embryos and severe in 2 fragmented embryos respectively. In conclusion, the co-culture of embryos with ampullary cells is good to improve quality of embryos and overcome of culture block as well as development of cell cleavage.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine acupuncture and moxibustion treatment suggested on the papers of urinary incontinence(UI) in medicine journals and to establish the future direction. Methods: The papers which were associated with acupuncture and HG published between 1992 and 2012 in Medline and Scopus were searched. Results: 14 studies met the condition. They were 3 randomized controlled trials(RCTs) and 5 clinical studies. 8 studies revealed that acupuncture and moxibustion have efficacies in UI. Conclusions: From the paper research, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment seem to be effective on UI. However, due to the lack sufficient research of UI, it would be necessary to fulfill further study about the period of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment on UI and the selection of acupoint through well-designed study and establish standard of evidence of them.
This study was performed to determine the significance of a baseline ovarian cyst on the response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation and the outcome of IVF-ET. One hundred one patients who underwent IVF-ET were enrolled in this study. The outcome of 31 patients, who had an ovarian cyst of >10mm detected at ultrasound examination performed on day 3, was compared with that of 70 patients who underwent a similar protocol and did not have an ovarian cyst. E2 level on the day of hCG administration, the number of follicles, the number of oocytes retrieved, the number of embryo transferred and the pregnancy rate were evaulated. The E2 level on the day of hCG adminstration and the number of mature oocytes retrieved were lower in the group with a baseline cyst. The pregnancy rate also was significantly lower in the group with a cyst (21% versus 38%). Therefore a baseline ovarian cyst on cycle day 3 was associated with a poorer outcome after IVF-ET.
In order to define the clinical characteristics of Korean women with polycystic ovary syndrome, clinical symptoms, biochemical features and ultrasonographic findings were determined in ninety PCO patients. Frequency of clinical manifestations were as follows:acne 42%, overweight 31 %, oily skin 14 %, hirsutism 10%. Relatively low frequencies of hirsutism is recognized in patients with Korean PCO syndrome. Mean(${\pm}$S.E.) of each hormone was:testosterone 1.18${\pm}$1.07ng/ml, LH 21.47${\pm}$${\pm}$2.6mIU/ml, FSH 7.26${\pm}$2.67mIU/ml, LH/FSH ratio 2.94${\pm}$1.29, prolactin 25.48${\pm}$46.33ng/ml, DHEA-S 333.78${\pm}$309.60ng/dl, 17-0HP 1.72${\pm}$1.74ng/ml. Mean 17-OHP after ACTH stimulation test was 5.07${\pm}$12.01ng/ml. Ultrasonographically measured mean ovarian volume were $11.02{\pm}5.92cm^3$ in right and $9.23{\pm}5.64cm^3$ in left and small sized multiple subcapsular follicular cysts were noted in 43 patients (47.9%) with PCO syndrome.

Objectives: These cases are that of three girls who are diagnosed as precocious puberty. It seems that the incidence of precocious puberty is rapidly increasing these days. In addition to the psychosocial disturbances associated with precocious puberty, the premature pubertal growth spurt and the accelerated bone maturation result in reduced adult height. The aim of this study was to report the effect of Jowisengchung-tang in 3 cases of precocious puberty. Methods: Retrospective and comparative analysis of 3 children who had been diagnosed with preco cious puberty. Anthropometric measurements including height, weight, body fat, body fat percent, AHP and body mass index were measured. Endocrine investigations including estradiol, luteinizing hormone(LH), FSH were conducted. Pubertal stages were determined with a questionnaire using Tanner stages. Jowisengchung-tang was given to 3 precocious puberty girls. Results: After treatment, the hormone(estradiol index) and accompanying symptoms (breast bud with elevation of breast and papilla; enlargement of areola) were reduced compared with first visit day. Conclusions: We may conclude that Korean traditional treatment of Jowisengchung-tang is effective in patients with precocious puberty and menopausal symptoms.
