  • Purpose: This cross-sectional survey study explored the moderating effect of social support between hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture and turnover intention in clinical nurses. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 240 nurses working at three general hospitals in February 2018. Hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture, turnover intention and social support were measured using 5, 6, and 8 items, respectively, of validated instruments. Descriptive analysis and hierachical multiple regression were conducted using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Nurses rated $3.66{\pm}0.50$ for hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture, $3.40{\pm}0.64$ for turnover intention, and $3.77{\pm}0.56$ for social support respectively. Nurses' turnover intention was positively correlated with hierarchical organizational culture, but negatively with social support. The moderating effect of social support was not significant in the relationship between hierarchical nursing organizational culture and turnover intention. Conclusion: It is required to improve the hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture. Institutional preparation and education are urgently needed to strengthen the boss and peer support for clinical nurses and finally to reduce turnover intention.

The instruments included the nursing occupational attitude scale, family adaptability, partnership, growth, affection, and resolve index, and perceived social support scale. The study examined the moderation model between family function, perceived social support, and occupational attitudes using PROCESS 3.2. Results: For nursing students, when social support was low, family function had a significant positive impact on occupational attitudes and intentions, and the effect was much higher than that of perceived social support. Conclusion: Family function has a significant positive explanatory effect on attitude and intention (β = .13, p < .001 and β = .12, p < .001); the interaction term between family function and perceived social support are significant (β = .01, p < .001 and β = .01, p < .001). Perceived social support has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between family function and occupational attitudes of nursing students in the probation period. Family function has a significant difference in the occupational attitudes and intentions of nursing students with low perceived social support. Nursing students perceive social support in the probation period has a significant moderation effect in the relationship between their family function and occupational attitudes. Interns with low family function should be given more social support to improve their occupational attitudes.

  • Purpose: This methodological study developed a scale that reflects the social support characteristics of nursing students who have experienced clinical practice and verified their reliability and validity. Methods: The 37 initial items of the scale were derived based on the results of a previous study that analyzed the concept of nursing students' social support. The initial items were revised through content validity verification, and 29 preliminary items were finally selected. Data were collected from 220 students enrolled in a nursing department in Jeollabuk-do, who had clinical practice experience, and 205 surveys were used for the final analysis. The data collection period was from March 11 to April 26, 2022. An exploratory factor analysis was performed using maximum likelihood factor extraction and varimax rotation. Results: The social support scale for nursing students who have experienced clinical practice consisted of a total of three sub-factors and 17 items. The three sub-factors were 'support from family and friends' (eight items), 'support from school, professors, and clinical instructors' (seven items) and 'support from department seniors' (two items). The reliability of the developed scale was found to be high, with a Cronbach's alpha of .93. As a result of verifying the criterion validity of the developed scale, the correlation between the criterion tool and the scale developed in this study was statistically significant. Conclusion: The significance of this study is that it developed a scale to measure social support for the first time among nursing students in Korea.

The five most influential factors affecting adjustment were self-rated health, placement decision maker, the length of stay, a sense of control and depression, which explained about 51.5% of the variances. Conclusion: The findings reflect the importance of voluntary institutionalization, a sense of control, avoiding depressive mood and social support which facilitate residents' adjustment. These results can provide guidance for nursing interventions to facilitate nursing home adjustment.

Methods: The participants were 121 nurses who were enrolled in graduate school master's or doctoral programs in Korea. Data were collected from June 30 to August 31, 2021, using an internet-based self-report questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using the IBM SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The mean scores of job stress, social support, and nursing professionalism among the participants were 2.47 out of 4, 4.06 out of 5, and 3.47 out of 5, respectively. Their nursing professionalism showed a positive correlation with social support (r=.45, p<.001) and a negative correlation with job stress (r=-.43, p<.001). As a result of the multiple regression analysis, factors influencing nursing professionalism of the participants were found to be job stress (β=-.28, p=.003), social support (β=.23, p=.015), and the length of nursing career (β=.19, p=.018). The explanatory power of the model was 28.0% (F=12.62, p<.001).
