Evaluation of predictability of numerical models for tropical cyclone track was performed using along-and cross-track component. The along-and cross-track bias were useful indicators that show the numerical models predictability associated with cause of errors. Since forecast errors, standard deviation and consistency index of along-track component were greater than those of cross-track component, there was some rooms for improvement in alongtrack component. There was an overall slow bias. The most accurate model was JGSM for 24-hour forecast and ECMWF for 48~96-hour forecast in direct position error, along-track error and cross-track error. ECMWF and GFS had a high variability for 24-hour forecast. The results of predictability by track type showed that most significant errors of tropical cyclone track forecast were caused by the failure to estimate the recurvature phenomenon.

A more complete two-dimensional vertical numerical model has been developed to describe the saltwater intrusion in an estuary. The model is based on the previous studies in order to obtain a better accuracy. The non-linear terms of the governing equations are analyzed and the $\sigma$-coordinate system is employed in the vertical direction with full transformation which is recently issued in several studies because numerical errors can be generated during the coordinate transformation of the diffusion term. The advection terms of the governing equations are discretized by an upwind scheme in second-order of accuracy. By employing an explicit scheme for the longitudinal direction and an implicit scheme for the vertical direction, the numerical model is free from the restriction of temporal step size caused by a relatively small grid ratio. In previous researches, some terms induced from the transformation have been intentionally excluded since they are asked the complicate discretization of the numerical model. However, the lack of these terms introduces significant errors during the numerical simulation of scalar transport problems, such as saltwater intrusion and sediment transport in an estuary. The numerical accuracy attributable to the full transformation is verified by comparing results with a previous model in a simply sloped topography. The numerical model is applied to the Han River estuary. Very reasonable agreements for salinity intrusion are observed.

To analyze incident waves traveling from the deep ocean is very important in that it is based on resolving problems occurred in coastal areas. In general, numerical models and analytical solutions are used to analyze wave transformation. Although a numerical model can be applied to various bottoms and wave conditions, it may have some cumbersome numerical errors. On the other hand, an analytical solution has an advantage of obtaining the solution quickly and accurately without numerical errors. The analytical solution can, however, be utilized only for specific conditions. In this study, the analytical solution of the mild-slope equation has been developed. It can be applied to various conditions combing a numerical technique and an analytical approach while minimizing the numerical errors. As a result of comparing the obtained solutions in this study with those of the previously developed numerical model, A good agreement was observed.

It is important to estimate and calibrate sensor errors in maintaining the performance level of SDINS. In this study, an estimation technique of fixed sensor errors for SDINS calibration is discussed. First, the fixed errors of gyros and accelerometers, excluding gyro biases are estimated by the navigation information of SDINS in multi-position. The SDINS with RLG includes flexure errors. In this study, the gyros flexures are out of consideration, but the proposed procedure selects certain positions and rotations in order to minimize the influence of flexures. Secondly, the influences of random walks, flexures and orientation errors are verified via numerical simulations. Thirdly, applying the previous estimated errors to SDINS, the estimation of gyro biases is conducted via the additional control signals of close-loop self-alignment. Lastly, the experiments illustrate that the extracted calibration parameters are available for the improvement of SDINS.
In this paper, a numerical scheme is introduced to solve the Cauchy problem for one-dimensional hyperbolic equations. The mesh points of the proposed scheme are distributed along characteristics so that the solution on the stencil can be easily and accurately computed. This is very important in reducing errors of the scheme because many numerical errors are generated when the solution is estimated over grid points. In addition, when characteristics intersect, the proposed scheme combines corresponding grid points into one and assigns new characteristic to the point in order to improve computational efficiency. Numerical experiments on the inviscid Burgers' equation have been presented.
In the analysis of constrained holonomic systems, the Lagange multiplier method yields a system of second-order ordinary differential equations of motion and algebraic constraint equations. Conventional holonomic or nonholonomic constraints are defined as geometric constraints in this paper. Previous works concentrate on the geometric constraints. However, if the total energy of a dynamic system can be computed from the initial energy plus the time integral of the energy input rate due to external or internal forces, then the total energy can be artificially treated as a constraint. The violation of the total energy constraint due to numerical errors can be used as information to control these errors. It is a necessary condition for accurate simulation that both geometric and energy constraints be satisfied. When geometric constraint control is combined with energy constraint control, numerical simulation of a constrained dynamic system becomes more accurate. A new convenient and effective method to implement energy constraint control in numerical simulation is developed based on the geometric interpretation of the relation between constraints in the phase space. Several combinations of energy constraint control with either Baumgarte's Constraint Violation Stabilization Method (CVSM) are also addressed.
Three methods for design sensitivity such as numerical differentiation, analytical method and semi-analytical method have been developed for the last three decades. Although analytical design sensitivity analysis is exact, it is hard to implement for practical design problems. Therefore, numerical method such as finite difference method is widely used to simply obtain the design sensitivity in most cases. The numerical differentiation is sufficiently accurate and reliable for most linear problems. However, it turns out that the numerical differentiation is inefficient and inaccurate because its computational cost depends on the number of design variables and large numerical errors can be included especially in nonlinear design sensitivity analysis. Thus semi-analytical method is more suitable for complicated design problems. Moreover semi-analytical method is easy to be performed in design procedure, which can be coupled with an analysis solver such as commercial finite element package. In this paper, implementation procedure for the semi-analytical design sensitivity analysis outside of the commercial finite element package is studied and computational technique is proposed, which evaluates the pseudo-load for design sensitivity analysis easily by using the design variation of corresponding internal nodal forces. Errors in semi-analytical design sensitivity analysis are examined and numerical examples are illustrated to confirm the reduction of numerical error considerably.
The purpose of this study is to look for the plan of reconstructing a textbook through error analysis and the process of its correction in numbers and operations of the first grade. The Research materials are collected and analyzed through the journal about every lessons, the recording sheets of students' activity, the recording videotapes during lessons, the individual interview and observation. This study investigated 4 errors which are useful for reconstructing textbook, the errors of understanding relation between numerical expression and number line, the errors of drawing-strategy, the errors of understanding relation between additive expression and subtractive expression, the errors of subtraction has to be regrouped. The errors are classified into some types and analyzed focusing on content of each error. Reinstructing are carried out based on material analyzed for correcting errors.

There are many difficulties to get the scattered field generated by obstacle which has arbitrary shape or irregular surface impedance by using analytic solution or numerical methods. In this study, we propose experimental method of acoustic scattering holography that can predict the far-field scattered field based on nearfield measurements. First of all, we express scattered field using K-H integral equation and compare the differences of which green's function we use. Also we consider analytic solution of scattered field by infinite cylinder to analysis for the errors due to apply cylinderical holography. So the errors which caused by holography due to frequency (ka) and microphone spacing are also analyzed by numerical simulation.

One-dimensional approximation for fin problems is widely used in current texts and industrial practice. The errors caused by this approximation is analysed for a longitudinal triangular fin by the numerical solution of two-dimensional fin equation. Two-dimensional solution is obtained by the finite element method and com pared with the one-dimensional esact solution. The results show that total heat transfer and fin efficiency are overestimated by the one-dimensional approximation. The factors which cause these errors are the Biot number (Bi) and the ratio of fin length to half the thickness (L/a). When Bi is smaller than 1.0 these errors are smaller than $10\%$, but when Bi is larger than 5.0 they are a few ten percents. Fin efficiency obtaned by one-dimensional and long fin assumption is valid only then Bi is small and L/a is large.
