This paper presents the state feedback control design for discrete time nonlinear systems where there exists a time delay in input. It is shown that under some boundedness condition, the time delay nonlinear systems can be transformed into the time delay linear systems with time varying parameters. Sufficient conditions for existence of stabilizing state feedback controller are characterized by linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an illustrative example is given in order to show the effectiveness of our design method.
This paper proposes a receding horizon predictive control (RHPC) for nonlinear time-delay systems. The control law is obtained by minimizing finite horizon cost with a terminal weighting functional. An inequality condition on the terminal weighting functional is presented, under which the closed-loop stability of RHPC is guaranteed, A special class of nonlinear time-delay systems is introduced and a systematic method to find a terminal weighting functional satisfying the proposed inequality condition is given for these systems. Through a simulation example, it is demonstrated that the proposed RHPC has the guaranteed closed-loop stability for nonlinear time-delay systems.

This Paper Proposes a design method of a fuzzy output feedback controller for the nonlinear systems with the unknown time- delay. Recently, Cao et ai. proposed a stabilization method for the nonlinear time-delay systems using a fuzzy controller when the time-delay is known. However, the time-delay is likely to be unknown in practical. We represent the nonlinear systems with the unknown time-delay by Takagi-Sugeno (T-5) fuzzy model and design the fuzzy observer and the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) law based on this observer. By applying Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem to the closed-loop system, the sufficient condition for the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium Point is derived and converted into the linear matrix inequality (LMI) Problem.
In this paper, we propose a new scheme for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption. This scheme is applied to the sample-data representation of a nonlinear system with constant state tine-delay. The mathematical expressions of the discretization scheme are presented and the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control system with state tine-delay, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic ability, is examined. The proposed scheme provides a finite-dimensional representation for nonlinear systems with state time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to then. The performance of the proposed discretization procedure is evaluated using a nonlinear system. For this nonlinear system, various sampling rates and time-delay values are considered.
The time delay in active and semi-active controls is an important research subject. Many researches on the time-delay control for deterministic systems have been made (Hu and Wang 2002, Yang et al. 1990, Abdel-Mooty and Roorda 1991, Pu 1998, Cai and Huang 2002), while the study on that for stochastic systems is very limited. The effects of the time delay on the control of nonlinear systems under Gaussian white noise excitations have been studied by Bilello et al. (2002). The controlled linear systems with deterministic and random time delay subjected to Gaussian white noise excitations have been treated by Grigoriu (1997). Recently, a stochastic averaging method for quasi-integrable Hamiltonian systems with time delay has been proposed (Liu and Zhu 2007). In the present paper, a stochastic optimal time-delay control method for stochastically excited nonlinear structural systems is proposed based on the stochastic averaging method for quasi Hamiltonian systems with time delay and the stochastic dynamical programming principle. An example of stochastically excited and controlled hysteretic column is given to illustrate the proposed control method.
An output time delay always exists in practical systems. Analysis of the delay phenomenon in a continuous-time domain is sophisticated. It is appropriate to obtain its corresponding discrete-time model for implementation via a digital computer. A new method for the discretization of nonlinear systems using Taylor series expansion and the zero-order hold assumption is proposed in this paper. This method is applied to the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with a constant output time-delay. In particular, the effect of the time-discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. In addition, 'hybrid' discretization schemes resulting from a combination of the 'scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. A performance of the proposed method is evaluated using two nonlinear systems with time-delay output.

A new discretization algorithm for nonlinear systems with delayed input is proposed. The algorithm is represented by Taylor series expansion and ZOH assumption. This method is applied to the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with the time-delay input. Additionally, the delay in input is time varying and its amplitude is bounded. The maximum time-delay in input is assumed to be two sampling periods. The mathematical expressions of the discretization method are presented and the ability of the algorithm is tested for some of the examples. The computer simulation proves the proposed algorithm discretizes the nonlinear system with the variable time-delay input accurately.
A digital controller for nonlinear time-delay system is proposed in this paper. A nonlinear time-delay system is discretized by using Taylor's discretization method. And the discretized system can be converted to a general nonlinear system. For this reason, general nonlinear controller synthesis can be applied to the discretized time-delay system. We adopted MAC controller synthesis for this study. Computer simulations are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. The results of simulation show good performance of the proposed controller synthesis and the proposed method is useful to control nonlinear time-delay system easily.
Time delay inevitably exists in active control systems, and it may cause the degradation of control efficiency or instability of the systems. So time delay needs to be compensated in control design in order to eliminate its negative effect on control efficiency. Today time delay in linear systems has been more studied and some treating methods had been worked out. However, there are few treating methods for time delay in nonlinear systems. In this paper, an active controller for a nonlinear and hysteretic building structure with time delay is studied. The nonlinear and hysteretic behavior of the system is illustrated by the Bouc-Wen model. By specific transformation and augmentation of state parameters, the motion equation of the system with explicit time delay is transformed into the standard state space representation without any explicit time delay. Then the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and instantaneous optimal control method are applied to the controller design with time delay. Finally, numerical simulations and comparisons of an eight-story building using the proposed time-delay controller are carried out. Simulation results indicate that the control performance will deteriorate if time delay is not taken into account in the control design. The simulations also prove the proposed time delay controller in this paper can not only effectively compensate time delay to get better control effectiveness, but also work well with both small and large time delay problems.

This study proposes a new scheme for the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems with time-delayed multi-input. The proposed scheme is based on the Taylor-series expansion and zero-order hold assumption. The mathematical structure of a new discretization scheme is explored. On the basis of this structure, the sampled-data representation of nonlinear systems including time-delay is derived. The new scheme is applied to nonlinear systems with two inputs and then the delayed multi-input general equation is derived. The resulting time-discretization provides a finite-dimensional representation of nonlinear control systems with time-delay enabling existing controller design techniques to be applied to them. In order to evaluate the tracking performance of the proposed scheme, an algorithm is tested for some of the examples including maneuvering of an automobile and a 2-DOF mechanical system.
