Ovarian adenocarcinoma in white leghorn and Ogol chicken (오골계와 백색산란계에서의 난소선암종)

  • Necropsy was performed on a total of twenty three either white leghorn or ogol chickens which were more than 150 weeks of age. Among twenty three chickens examined, fifteen chickens were laying and the rest eight chickens were non-laying. On necropsy, neoplastic mass in the five chickens among non-laying chickens was found. These neoplastic masses were present mostly in the ovaries and one case in the liver and characterized by multifocal to coalescing 1 to 5 mm tan firm nodular formation. On histopathology, ovarian adenocarcinoma with widespread abdominal seeding and hepatic metastasis was diagnosed in the three chickens. Oviductal leiomyoma was also found in two chickens that had a focal well-demarcated nodules in the oviduct. Taken together, the number with ovarian adenocarcinoma among non-laying chickens over 150 week old was 37.5%. As most animal species do rarely develop ovarian tumors, the high rate of spontaneous ovarian adenocarcinoma in non-laying hen suggest that the hen is a proper model for human ovarian cancer study.

  • All citizens over 17 year old living in Korea have to be fingerprinted to obtain a certificate of resident registration. For this reason, human identification through fingerprints has been used actively in crime scene investigation. The fingerprint is so unique that it is one of the most certain ways to identify oneself and it can differentiate between genetically identical twins. Fingerprints gained in crime scene indicate a direction of criminal investigation in conjecturing a suspect. Fingerprints help a reunion of family got scattered for a long time and make it possible to get a personal identification for missing person who met with natural calamity. We developed a new fingerprinting method using safranine O, so as to develop fingerprints on the adhesive tapes and non-porous papers in various physical environments. Results were compared to the preexisting fingerprinting method, the minutiae numbers of fingerprints were greatly increased in our newly developed safranine O fingerprinting method. This newly developed safranine O method showed a quantity and quality comparable to the preexisting fingerprinting method routinely used in these days. In our hands, the safranine O fingerprinting method is another easy and obvious choice when the forensic case sample is available for fingerprints on the adhesive tapes and non-porous papers.

Influence of Dietary Factors of Smokers on Smoking-Induced DNA Damage as Reflected by Sister Chromatid Exchanges(SCE) (식이성요인이 SCE 빈도수로 본 흡연자의 DNA 손상에 미치는 영향)

  • Sister chromatid exchanges(SCE) in peripheral lymphocytes is recently used as a biomarker for increased cytogenetic damage in smokers. The purpose of the investigation was to determine if there were any relationships between dietary factors and their DNA damage as measured by SCE test in a group of 62 male cigarette smokers and 36 non-smokers. As expected, smokers as compared with non-smokers had high SCE levels (10.59$\pm$0.21 versus 9.23$\pm$0.17 SCE/lymphocytes ; p<0.05). No significant relationships were observed between SCEs and age in smokers and non-smokers. In smokers, SCEs were negatively correlated with egg frequency score(r=-0.336) and total food frequency scores(r=-0.283). In non-smokers, SCEs were positively correlated with white vegetable frequency score(r=0.333) and instant food frequency score(r=0.382). There was a positive association between SCEs and the history of coffee intake of smokers(r=0.318). SCE frequency was not influenced by any other dietary factors considered ; dietary diversity and quality scores, alcohol consumption, use of processed foods and intake of burned food. No significant relationships were found between SCEs and serum cholesterol or other hematological parameters of the subjects. These results indicate that increased egg frequency score, total food frequency score which reflects dietary quality, and decreased coffee intake may reduce cancer risk by preventing smoking-induced DNA damage as reflected by sister chromatid exchanges in human lymphocytes.

Design for CMAC Neural Network Speed Controller of DC Motor by Digital Simulations (디지털 시뮬레이션에 의한 CMAC 신경망 직류전동기 속도 제어기 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a CMAC(Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller) neural network for controlling a non-linear system. CMAC is a neural network that models the human cerebellum. CMAC uses a table look-up method to resolve the complex non-linear system instead of numerical calculation method. It is very fast learn compared with other neural networks. It does not need a calculation time to generate control signals. The simulation results show that the proposed CMAC controllers for a simple non-linear function and a DC Motor speed control reduce tracking errors and improve the stability of its learning controllers. The validity of the proposed CMAC controller is also proved by the real-time tension control.

The Perception and Visiting Intention on Word-of-Mouth Information of Beauty Shop - Comparisons of Female College Students and Adult Women -

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare visiting intentions by positive and negative Word-of-Mouth (WOM) and/or information of beauty shop between female college students and adult women. Data were collected from 500 consumers (250 from female students and 250 adult women) and was analyzed by using frequencies, factor analysis, t-tests and multiple regression utilizing SPSS/PC+. The findings revealed positive experience factors to prudent service, time saving/consideration for customer's position, kindness/operating system in waiting time, added services, employees' attitudes, excellent beauty and response skill, rational price and recall system/remind for customer. The negative experiences were inconsistent service, operators' convenient service, irrational price/poor skill/non-recall, non-customer central service, inappropriate face-to-face management to customer. Also, the results showed that the positive WOM information such as prudent service, time saving/consideration for customer's position, excellent beauty and response skill and rational price had influence on the visiting intention in case of female college students. The negative WOM information like non-customer central service, had influence on the visiting intention in cases of adult women.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to compare the hypertension management between a non-elderly group and elderly group of hypertension patients in Community residents. The study also sought to generate strategies for increasing the hypertension management of residents using Community health center. Methods: Data on the general characteristics and hypertension management from 381 hypertension patients between non-elderly and elderly, living in P city, Gyeonggi Province and C city, Chungnam Province. South Korea, were collected based on a structured questionnaire, The data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 statistics program. Results: The use of a Community health center in the non-elderly and elderly groups showed a statistically significant difference in facility excellence and cheaper cost. Hypertension management was measured every day, The daily blood pressure and physician counseling was performed according to the changes in blood pressure. The management of hypertension medication in a community health center provided for hypertensive patients can be evaluated as an efficient service. Conclusion: The self-management ability of hypertension needs to be improved. In particular, especially, the elderly managed by the Community health center have good accessibility and a good alternative for the treatment cost. Therefore, it is necessary to provide support and measures to make hypertension management safer.

Wound Healing Effect of 525 nm Green LED Irradiation on Skin Wounds of Male Sprague Dawley Rats

  • Many methods exist that promote wound healing, including light therapy, which consists of light beams that assist the human body in treating and sterilizing wounds, as well as regenerating cells. Irradiation with specific wavelengths of either laser or LED light has been shown to induce beneficial proliferation of fibroblasts that, depending on the size of the wound, can be effective in promoting wound healing. The experiments in this study utilized 8 week old 250~300 g Male Sprague Dawley Rats (ILAR Code: NTacSam:SD) and included a non-irradiation group and a 525 nm green LED irradiation group (n of each group = 7). In experiments animals were allowed to rest for 24 hours after wounds had been excised, which was followed by non- irradiation or 525 nm green LED irradiation therapy one hour per day for 9 days. Immunohistochemical staining was conducted for cytokeratin in order to precisely measure the defect size. In addition, Masson's trichrome staining was utilized in order to compare levels of collagen between the 525 nm green LED irradiation group and the non-irradiation group. Animals exposed to 525 nm green LED irradiation (p<0.05) healed at a faster rate and had increased collagenosis compared with the non-irradiated control group. Thus, treatment with 525 nm green LED irradiation had a beneficial effect on wound healing and should be considered as a possible alternative to low power laser treatment.

Non-ethic Behavior and the Process of Adaptation of Used Market Site: An Approach Based on Grounded Theory (아나바다 사이트 참여자의 비윤리적 행동과 반응양식 : 근거이론적 접근)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore consumers' experiences in one used market site. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted for the 8 consumers who were members of the used market site. In the study methodology, the grounded theory designed by Strauss and Corbin was utilized. From the analysis results, 23 subcategories and 11 categories were created. In the axial coding, the following paradigm model was proposed: 1) the casual conditions were "the pond of information" and "underground market," 2) the contextual conditions were "inconsistent behavior" and "error of communication", 3) the central phenomenon was "non-ethic behavior of seller/buyer, 4) the intervening conditions were "induction of intimacy", "use of patronage", and "creation of network", 5) the action/interaction strategy was "being shrewd", and 6) the consequence was "adaptation/non-adaptation". In selective coding, the core category was "to adapt of non-ethic behaviors through being shrewd." Based on the core category, the following four types of process of adaptation of the used market site were found: "A selfish addict," "An advanced utilitarian", "A hard philosopher," and "A cynical dropout".

Identification of Non-mutans Streptococci Organisms in Dental Plaques Recovering on Mitis-Salivarius Bacitracin Agar Medium

  • The objective of this study was to both isolate and identify non-mutans streptococci organisms (non­MSO) from dental plaques recovered on mitis-salivarius sucrose bacitracin agar (MSB) plates. The dental plaque samples, which had been collected from 63 human subjects, were diluted and plated on MSB. The bacteria growing on the MSB plates were then identified with biochemical tests, as well as with 16S rDNA cloning and sequencing techniques. Our data indicated that bacteria from 30 subjects had been recovered on the MSB plates. Among the 21 typical colonies selected from the 30 subjects, 12 colonies, derived from 10 subjects, were identified as non-MSO. These 12 colonies were determined to be Streptococcus anginosus (8 colonies), S. sanguinis (1 colony), and Pantoea agglomerans (3 colonies). These results strongly suggest that a new selective medium will be required for the reliable isolation of mutans streptococci.

Teleoperation by using Smith prediction and Grey prediction with a Time-delay in a Non-visible Environment (스미스 예측기와 그레이 예측 방법을 적용한 시간 지연이 있는 비 가시 환경에서의 원격로봇제어)

  • A new prediction scheme has been proposed for the robust teleoperation in a non-visible environment. The positioning error caused by the time delay in the non-visible environment has been compensated for by the Smith predictor and the sensory data have been estimated by the Grey model. The Smith predictor is effective for the compensation of the positioning error caused by the time delay with a precise system model. Therefore the dynamic model of a mobile robot has been used in this research. To minimize the unstable and erroneous states caused by the time delay, the estimated sensor data have been sent to the operator. Through simulations, the possibility of compensating the errors caused by the time delay has been verified using the Smith predictor. Also the estimation reliability of the measurement data has been demonstrated. Robust teleoperations in a non-visible environment have been performed with a mobile robot to avoid the obstacles effective to go to the target position by the proposed prediction scheme which combines the Smith predictor and the Grey model. Even though the human operator is involved in the teleoperation loop, the compensation effects have been clearly demonstrated.
