  • A broadband radio frequency synthesizer for multi-band, multi-standard mobile DTV tuners is proposed, it's loop bandwidth can be calibrated to optimize integrated phase noise performance without the problem of phase noise peaking. For this purpose, we proposed a new third-order scalable loop filter and a scalable charge pump circuit to minimize the variation in phase margin during calibration. The prototype phase-lock loop is fabricated in 180nm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor shows that it effectively prevents phase noise peaking from growing while the loop bandwidth increases by up to three times.

  • The equalizer compensates a signal distorted by transmission lines and amplifying stages, so the signal can have uniform characteristics over all frequency range. The equalizer in ODD(Optical Disc Drive) improves the stability of the extracted clock from a received signal and the readability of an inserted disc by suppressing noise and ISI(Inter-Symbol Inference). The length of marks-spaces and track pitch on discs becomes shorter as the recording density of an optical media is higher, which causes noise and ISI. And, the sensitivity about the fluctuation of physical systems is higher as the optical devices become more complicate. This paper proposes a method to select the coefficient of built-in equalizer of ODD in order to maintain the quality of signals against noise and ISI caused by system fluctuation.

  • We propose the equivalent circuit model including all parasitic components in input gate of sense amplifier of DDI DRAM with butting contact structure. We analysed the effect of parasitic schottky diode by using the proposed model in the operation of sense amplifier. The cause of single side fail and the temperature dependence of fail rate in DDI DRAM are due to creation of the parasitic schottky diode in input gate of sense amplifier. The parasitic schottky diode cause the voltage drop in input gate, and result in decreasing noise margin of sense amplifier. therefore single side fail rate increase.

  • In this paper, we develop design procedures for carrier tracking loop for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems or other systems of blocked data. In such communication systems, phase error measurements are made infrequent enough to invalidate the traditional loop design methodology which is based on analog loop design. We analyze the degradation in the OFDM schemes caused by the tracking loop and show how the performance is dependent on the rms phase error, where we distinguished between the effect of the variance in the average phase over the symbol and the effect of the phase change over the symbol. We derive the optimal tracking loop including optional delay in the loop caused by processing time. Our solution is general and includes arbitrary phase noise apd additive noise spectrums. In order to guarantee a well behaved solution, we have to check the design against margin constraints subject to uncertainties. In case the optimal loop does not meet the required margin constraints subjected to uncertainties, it is shown how to apply a method taken from control theory to find a controller. Alternatively, if we restrict the solution to first or second order loops, we give a simple loop design procedure which may be sufficient in many cases. Extensions of the method are shown for using both pilot symbols and data symbols in the OFDM receiver for phase tracking. We compare our results to other methods commonly used in OFDM receivers and we show that a large improvement can be gained.

  • 3-input neuron-MOSFET inverters and 3-bit D/A converters using enhancement type device have been designed and fabricated by using standard 2-poly CMOS process. The voltage transfer curve and the noise margin of neuron-MOSFET inverters have been measured and characterized as the same method in normal CMOS inverters. From the theoretical calculation of the effects of coupling ratio on the voltage transfer curve and noise margin, we set up the design guideline for the gate oxide thickness and input gate layout in neuron-MOSFET inverters. BT using one of input gates as a control gate, we can design and fabricate the neuron-MOSFET D/A converter without offset voltage.

  • This paper reports a filtered velocity feedback(FVF) controller, which is an alternative to direct velocity feedback(DVFB) controller. The instability problems at high frequencies due to non-collocated sensor/actuator configuration with the DVFB can be alleviated by the proposed FVF controller. The FVF controller is designed to filter out the unstable high frequency response. The dynamics of a clamped plate under forces and moments and the FVF controllers are formulated. The stability of the control system and performance are investigated with the open loop transfer function(OLTF). It is found that the FVF controller has a higher gain margin than the corresponding DVFB controller owing to the rapid roll-off behavior at high frequencies. Although the gain margin cannot be fully utilized because of the enhancement at the high frequencies, the vibration at the modes lower than the tuning frequency is well controlled. This performance of the FVF controller is shown to be improved from that of the DVFB controller. It is, however, noted that the stability around the tuning frequency is very sensitive so that the enhancement in vibration level should be followed. The reduction performance at low frequencies using the FVF controller should be compromised with the enhancement in the vibration at high frequencies while designing the controller.

  • In this paper, the derivation of the protection ratio for the digital microwave system with diversity is newly suggested for a basic guidance of initial planning for frequency coordination, and computational results are presented for an actual radio frequency band. The net filter discrimination has been also examined to see the effect of the adjacent channel protection ratio caused by adjacent channel interference. In addition, the protection ratios for the space or frequency diversity system are analyzed in terms of diversity improvement factors to find out an equivalent allowable noise-to-interference ratio (N/I) from degraded fade margin. According to results for 6.2 GHz system, with the space diversity of 25 m distance between antennas or the frequency diversity of ${\Delta}f/f=0.05$, under 64-QAM and 60 km at BER $10^{-6}$, the protection ratio can be greatly reduced in comparison to the non-diversity system. So, assuming that only the same protection ratio as the non-diversity system is kept, it is shown that the system with diversity may get more interference level of N/I allowing from 9.0 to - 5.9 dB or from 6.0 to - 4.3 dB for the space or frequency diversity. In consequence, it is concluded that the diversity system is more robust or tolerable for interferences or fades, which may play an important role in overcoming N/I to some extent.

  • The equation error formulation in the adaptive IIR filtering provides convergence to a global minimum regardless a local minimum with a large stability margin. However, the equation error formulation suffers from the bias in the coefficient estimates. In this paper, a new algorithm, which does not require a prespecification of the noise variance, is proposed for the equation error formulation. This algorithm is based on the equation error smoothing and provides an unbiased parameter estimate in the presence of white noise. Through simulations, it is demonstrated that the algorithm eliminates the bias in the parameter estimate while retaining good properties of the equation error formulation such as fast convergence speed and the large stability margin.

  • This paper summarizes theoretical work on the multichannel decentralized feedback control of sound radiation from aircraft trim panels using piezoceramic actuators. The aircraft trim panels are generally honeycomb structures designed to meet the design requirement of low weight and high stiffness. They are resiliently-mounted to the fuselage for the passive reduction of noise transmission. It is motivated by the localization of reduction in vibration of single channel active trim panels. 12-channel decentralized feedback control systems are investigated in terms of the reduction of noise and vibration for three configurations of sensor actuator pairs. Local coupling of the closely-spaced sensor and actuator pairs was modeled using single degree of freedom systems. The multichannel control system is characterized using the state-space model. For the stability point of view, the relative stability or robustness is evaluated by comparing the real part of eigenvalues of the system matrix for the three configurations. The control performance is also evaluated and compared for the three configurations. It is found that the multichannel system can lead to the globalization of the reduction in vibration and radiated noise. It does not appear to yield a significant improvement in the vibration because of decreased gain margin. However, the reduction in the radiated noise is remarkably improved due to the variation of the vibration pattern with the actuation configurations.
