  • In this research, we investigated the effect of mole concentration of precursor on morphological, structural and optical properties of ZnO nanorods. ZnO nanorods were hydrothermally grown on c-plane sapphire substrates in aqueous solution which contains zinc nitrate hexahydrate and hexamethylenetetramine at 90oC in the precursor range of 0.01 M to 0.025 M. With the increase of mole concentration, length and diameter of ZnO nanorods increased. In all the conditions, the growth direction of rods was longitudinally c-axis direction. From the strong emission peak at 380 nm of PL spectra at room temperature, we could confirm that the crystal quality of ZnO nanorods is good to emit radiative recombination spectra.

  • Recently, various type of nanomaterials such as nanorod, nanowire, nanotube and their core/shell nanostructures have attracted much attention in photocatalyst due to their unique properties. Among them, Type-II core/shell heterostructures have extensively studied because it has exhibited improved electrical and optical properties against their single-component nanostructure. Such structures are expected to offer high absorption efficiency and fast charge transport due to their stepwised energetic combination and large internal surface area. Thus, it has been considered as potential candidates for high efficient photocatalytic activity. In this work, we introduce a novel chemical conversion process to synthesize Type-II ZnO/ZnSe core/shell heterostructures. A plausible conversion mechanism to ZnO/ZnSe core/shell heterostructres was proposed based on SEM, XRD, TEM and XPS analysis. The ZnO/ZnSe heterostructures exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity toward the decomposition of RhB dye compared to the ZnO nanorod arrays due to enhanced light absorption and the type-II cascade band structure.

  • In this study, we studied optical properties on the layer-by-layer (LbL) assemblies consisting of Au nanorods and organic dyes. For this purpose, poly (allylamine hydrochloride), PAH and poly (styrene sulfonate), PSS were selected as ionic polymers and rhodamine B isothiocyanate (RB) was utilized as an organic dye based on its spectral overlap with plasmon band of Au nanorods. In the view point of assembling methods, RB was covalently attached to PAH, then, LbL structure of Au [PSS/PAH]2/PSS/PAH-RB was prepared by sequential coating of PAH, PSS, PAH-RB on Au nanorods. Since the prepared LbL assembly exhibits both plasmonic and fluorescent properties, we studied the mutual nanorod-dye properties by dissolving Au nanorods.

  • Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanorods arrays were deposited on ZnO buffered p-Si(100) substrates by hydrothermal method. The ZnO buffer layer with a thickness of 30 nm was deposited by metal oxide chemical vapor deposition at $500^{\circ}C$. The structural and optical properties of ZnO nanorods arrays controlled by precursor concentrations from 0.06 to 0.5 M were studied by FE-SEM(field emission scanning electron microscopy), XRD(X-ray diffraction), and PL(photoluminescence), respectively. It was found that the structural and optical properties of ZnO nanorods arrays are changed significantly with increase of precursor concentration. The sizes of diameter and length of nanorods were increased as the concentration increase, and good optical property was shown with the concentration of 0.3 M.

  • In this study, we propose an array-type gas sensor with high selectivity and response using multiple oxide semiconductors. The sensor array was composed of SnO2 and In2O3, and the detection characteristics were improved by using Pt, Au, and Pd catalysts. All samples were deposited directly on the Pt interdigitated electrode (IDE) through the e-beam evaporator glancing angle deposition (GAD) method. They grew in the form of well-aligned nanorods at off-axis angles. The prepared SnO2 and In2O3 nanorod samples were exposed to CH3COCH3, C7H8, and NO2 gases in a 300℃ dry condition. Au-decorated SnO2, Au-decorated In2O3, and Pd-decorated In2O3 exhibited high selectivity for CH3COCH3, C7H8, and NO2, respectively. They demonstrated a high detection limit of the sub ppb level computationally. In addition, measurements from each sensor were executed in the 40% relative humidity condition. Although there was a slight reduction in detection response, high selectivity and distinguishable detection characteristics were confirmed.

  • We have grown AlN nanorods and AlN films using plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy by changing the Al source flux. Plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy of AlN was performed on c-plane $Al_2O_3$ substrates with different levels of aluminum (Al) flux but with the same nitrogen flux. Growth behavior of AlN was strongly affected by Al flux, as determined by in-situ reflection high energy electron diffraction. Prior to the growth, nitridation of the $Al_2O_3$ substrate was performed and a two-dimensionally grown AlN layer was formed by the nitridation process, in which the epitaxial relationship was determined to be [11-20]AlN//[10-10]$Al_2O_3$, and [10-10]AlN//[11-20]$Al_2O_3$. In the growth of AlN films after nitridation, vertically aligned nanorod-structured AlN was grown with a growth rate of $1.6{\mu}m/h$, in which the growth direction was <0001>, for low Al flux. However, with high Al flux, Al droplets with diameters of about $8{\mu}m$ were found, which implies an Al-rich growth environment. With moderate Al flux conditions, epitaxial AlN films were grown. Growth was maintained in two-dimensional or three-dimensional growth mode depending on the Al flux during the growth; however, final growth occurred in three-dimensional growth mode. A lowest root mean square roughness of 0.6 nm (for $2{\mu}m{\times}2{\mu}m$ area) was obtained, which indicates a very flat surface.

  • Recently, a lot of research has been done on the analysis of axial vibrations of homogeneous and FG nanotubes (nanorods) with various aspects of vibrations that have been fully mentioned in history. However, there is a lack of investigation of the dynamic internal resonances of FG nanotubes (nanorods) between them. This is one of the essential or substantial characteristics of nonlinear vibration systems that have many applications in various fields of engineering (making actuators, sensors, etc.) and medicine (improving the course of diseases such as cancers, etc.). For this reason, in this study, for the first time, the dynamic internal resonances of FG nanorods in the simultaneous presence of large-amplitude size dependent behaviour, inertial and shear effects are investigated for general state in detail. Such theoretical patterns permit as to carry out various numerical experiments, which is the key point in the expansion of advanced nano-devices in different sciences. This research presents an AFG novel nano resonator model based on the axial vibration of the elastic nanorod system in terms of derivation from large-amplitude size dependent internal modals interactions. The Hamilton's Principle is applied to achieve the basic equations in movement and boundary conditions, and a harmonic deferential quadrature method, and a multiple scale solution technique are employed to determine a semi-analytical solution. The interest of the current solution is seen in its specific procedure that useful for deriving general relationships of internal resonances of FG nanorods. The numerical results predicted by the presented formulation are compared with results already published in the literature to indicate the precision and efficiency of the used theory and method. The influences of gradient index, aspect ratio of FG nanorod, mode number, nonlinear effects, and nonlocal effects variations on the mechanical behavior of FG nanorods are examined and discussed in detail. Also, the inertial and shear traces on the formations of internal resonances of FG nanorods are studied, simultaneously. The obtained valid results of this research can be useful and practical as input data of experimental works and construction of devices related to axial vibrations of FG nanorods.

  • Solution casting films of sulfonated poly[styrene-b-(ethylene-r-butylene)-b-styrene] copolymer (sSEBS)-based composite membranes that contained different amounts of organic, nanorod-shaped polyrotaxane were annealed at various temperatures for 1 h. The films' properties were characterized with respect to their use as polymer electrolyte membranes in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Different aspect ratios of polyrotaxane were prepared using the inclusion-complex reaction between $\alpha$-cyclodextrin and poly(ethylene glycol). The presence of the organic polyrotaxane inside the membrane changed the morphology during the membrane preparation and reduced the transport of methanol. The conductivity and methanol permeability of the composite membranes decreased with increasing polyrotaxane content, while the annealing temperature increased. All of the sSEBS-based, polyrotaxane composite membranes annealed at $140^{\circ}C$ showed a higher selectivity parameter, suggesting their potential usage for DMFCs.

  • Vertically aligned zinc oxide(ZnO) nanorods (NRs) with different surface morphology were grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on sapphire substrate with different deposition condition. Based on the surface morphology, ZnO nanostructures are divided into three types: nanoneedles, nanonails and nanorods with rounded tip. Variable temperature photoluminescence (PL) have employed to probe the exciton recombination in high density and vertically aligned ZnO Nanorod arrays. Low temperature photoluminescence measurements do not show any significant yellow emission, but the near band edge excitonic emission shows very strong dependence with the surface morphology. The recombination properties are expected to be different due to different surface-to-volume ratio and distribution of potential fluctuations of intrinsic defects.
