  • Rendering is widely used for visual effects in animations and movies. Although rendering is computing-intensive, we observe that it accompanies heavy I/O because of large input data. This becomes technical hurdles for multi-node rendering performed on public cloud nodes. To reduce the overhead of data transmission in multi-node rendering, this paper analyzes the characteristics of rendering workloads, and presents the cooperative caching scheme for multi-node rendering. Our caching scheme has the function of synchronization between original data in local storage and cached data in rendering nodes, and the cached data are shared between multiple rendering nodes. We perform measurement experiments in real system environments and show that the proposed cooperative caching scheme improves the conventional caching scheme used in the network file system by 27% on average.

  • CAN(Controller Area Network) is a simple and efficient network system for real time control and measurement. As it is not only good at error detection but also strong in electromagnetic interference, CAN has been widely used all over the industries. Basically, CAN needs a master node in charge of sensor data collection, node scheduling for data transmission to a monitoring system and error detection. According to the number of mater nodes, the CAN system is classified into two type of master system. One is a single master system that has only one master node and the other is a multi-master system where any sensor node can become a master node depending on the system's conditions. While it has the advantage of its fault tolerance, the multi-master system will suffer form the overall performance degradation when a defect is found in the master node. It is because all sensor nodes pertaining to a defective master node lose their position. Moreover, it is difficult and expensive to implement. For a single master system, the whole system will be broken down when a problem happens to a single master. In this paper, a dynamic master system is presented that there are several sub-master nodes of which basic functions are those of other sensor nodes at ordinary times but dynamically changed to replace the failing master node. An effective scheduling algorithm is also proposed to choose an appropriate node among sub-master nodes, where each sub-master node has its precedence value. The performance of the dynamic master system is experimented and analyzed.

  • Key establishment method based on channel reciprocity for time division duplex (TDD) system has earned a vital consideration in the majority of recent research. While most of the cellular systems rely on frequency division duplex (FDD) systems, especially the 5G network, which is not characterized by the channel reciprocity feature. This paper realizes the generation of a group secret key for multi-terminals communicated through a wireless network in FDD mode, by utilizing the nature of the physical layer for the wireless links between them. I consider a new group key generation approach, which using bitwise XOR with a modified pairwise secret key generation approach not based on the channel reciprocity feature. Precisely, this multi-node secret key agreement technique designed for three wireless network topologies: 1) the triangle topology, 2) the multi-terminal star topology, and 3) the multi-node chain topology. Three multi-node secret key agreement protocols suggest for these wireless communication topologies in FDD mode, respectively. I determine the upper bound for the generation rate of the secret key shared among multi-node, for the three multi-terminals topologies, and give numerical cases to expose the achievement of my offered technique.

  • A multi-noded cable element allowing sliding at its nodes without frictions was introduced in this paper, and its elastic stiffness matrix was derived. A two-node truss element was briefly summarized and extended to multi-node, cable-truss elements that keep their tension constant but are connected without frictions through several nodes. The element elastic stiffness matrix of the multi-node,cable-truss elements was consistently derived. The steel wales pre-stressed externally in the IPS system were chosen as numerical examples and analyzed under various loading conditions. The cable tensions calculated using the present element were compared with the results of the flexibility method and those using the two-node truss element, respectively.

  • Recently, the systems using multiple sensors such as magnetic, acoustic and pressure sensor are used for detection of underwater objects or vehicles. Those systems have difficulty of maintenance and repair because they operate underwater. Thus, this paper describes a hybrid detection system with long term operating reliability. This has a multi-signal transmission structure to have a high reliability. First, a signal transmission & receiving part, which transfers data from underwater sensors to land and receive control message from land through optical cable, has 4 multi-path. Second, the nodes for signal transmission are connected dually each other with single-hop construction and sensors are connected to a couple of neighboring nodes. This enables the output signal to transmit from a node to the next node and the next but one node together. Also, the signal from a sensor can be transmitted to two nodes at the same time. Therefore, the system with this construction has high reliability in long term operation because it makes possible to transmit sensor data to another node which works normally although a transmission node or cable in system have some faults.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method of multi-node frequency synchronization for distributed networks. The proposed method synchronizes carrier frequencies of all nodes in the network and this enables new entry node to synchronize immediately. Moreover, when several groups exist in the network, inter-group synchronization method is proposed. The proposed distributed frequency synchronization method is expected to be very useful for the military operation scenario that new node entry is in a state of flux and group merging and splitting frequently happen.

  • A critical issue in applications involving networks of wireless sensors is their ability to synchronize, and mitigate the fading propagation channel effects. Especially when distributed 'slave' sensors (nodes) reach-back to communicate with the 'master' sensor (gateway), low power cooperative schemes are well motivated. Viewing each node as an antenna element in a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) multi-antenna system, we design pilot patterns to estimate the multiple carrier frequency offsets (CFO), and the multiple channels corresponding to each node-gateway link. Our novel pilot scheme consists of non-zero pilot symbols along with zeros, which separate nodes in a time division multiple access (TDMA) fashion, and lead to low complexity schemes because CFO and channel estimators per node are decoupled. The resulting training algorithm is not only suitable for wireless sensor networks, but also for synchronization and channel estimation of single- and multi-carrier MIMO systems. We investigate the performance of our estimators analytically, and with simulations.

  • this paper describes the design and implementation of node scheduling for MX Server that is CC-NUMA System COMSIX, the operating system of MX Server, is designed to suit for CC-NUMA Architecture. MX Server consists of up to 8 nodes, and each node is connected by SCI ring. This node scheduling scheme considers data locality for performance improvement of Oracle8i DBMS on the CC-NUMA architecture. For DBMS such as Oracle8i, a multi-threaded process may be run to tie on particular disk. We have developed a CG binding function that the multi-threaded process bound the node. Currently, We don't have an available CC-NUMA Platform. Instead of MX Server, we developed the Node scheduling scheme for multi-threaded process to suit server platform on the PC test-bed and tested completely.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic slot allocation scheme to improve the slot utilization rate in tactical multi-hop networks in which the channel condition varies due to node movements. The proposed scheme takes advantage of the fact that nodes that are more than three hops apart can use the same slot simultaneously. The frame is divided into two parts: the control period and the data period. To know the available slot information within two-hop distance, the node exchanges a slot allocation information with one-hop neighbors during the control period. The node can get the information on idle slots that are not used within two-hop distance but assigned already to other nodes that are more than three-hop away. The identified idle slot can be used by the node, which increases the slot utilization rate. The performance analysis results of the proposed scheme show that it increases the slot utilization rate sufficiently despite the overhead of the control period in the multi-hop networks of the future soldier system.

  • In parallel cluster computing systems, the efficiency of communication between computing nodes is one of important factors that decide overall system performance. Accordingly, many researchers have studied on high-performance inter-node communication. The recently launched multi-core processor, however. increases the importance of intra-node communication as well because the more the number of cores in a node, the more the number of parallel processes running in the same node. Though there have been studies on intra-node communications, these have limited considerations on the state-of-the-art systems. In this paper, we propose a Linux kernel module that minimizes the number of data copy by exploiting the memory mapping mechanism for high-performance intra-node communication. The proposed kernel module supports the Linux kernel version 2.6. The performance measurements over a multi-core system present that the proposed kernel module can achieve lower latency up to 62% and higher throughput up to 144% than an existing kernel module approach. In addition, the measurements reveal that the performance of intra-node communication can vary significantly based on whether the cores that run the communication processes are belong to the same processor package (i.e., sharing the L2 cache).
