This study aims to observe the impact of mothers' child-rearing stress on the development of 3-month-old, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding infants. For this purpose, a survey based on the K-ASQ scale was conducted on a sample of 533 3-month-old infants and their mothers in the Seoul and Kyeong-gi area. The results of the study are as follows. First, breastfeeding mothers felt less child-rearing stress than their non-breastfeeding counterparts, especially in parent-role stress. Second, breastfeeding infants exhibited a better personal sociality than non-breastfeeding infants. Third, it was found that mothers' child-rearing stress had an impact on all aspects of infant development in breastfeeding infants, and especially in the development of communicational skills, having an impact of 12.4%. However, in non-breastfeeding infants, mothers' child-rearing stress had an impact only on communication and personal sociality development and exhibited a nonsignificant impact on other aspects. Lastly, it was found that mothers' parent-role stress, out of all aspects of child-rearing stress, was the main factor of negative impact on infant development in both breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding infants. Based on the results of this study, I have suggested family-level and society-level support measures to reduce mothers' parent-role stress and promote breastfeeding.
Due to the changes of modern society, alternative types of nuclear family so called as commuting family have appeared. Also, with the increase of women's economic participation and their needs of self-actualization, dual-career commuting family have increased. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is any difference between the traditional commuting family and dual-career commuting family in terms of family relation, types of child-care and social support. Also, this study qualitatively analysed parenting-guilty of the mothers of commuting family. One eight seven mothers of three to eight year-old participated the survey. The main results were as follows : (1) In case of traditional commuting family, children cohabit with the mother and usually fathers move between two houses. But among the dual-career commuting family, there are some children who cohabit with the father and some mothers who move. Dual-career commuting family relied on the more types of child-care than traditional commuting family. (2) While traditional commuting family get more support for child-rearing from the husband's family of origin than dual-career commuting family, wife's family of origin provide more support to the dual-career commuting family. The more support the husband's family of origin provide, the more stress both types of commuting family experience. However, there was no significant relationship between the support from the wife's family of origin or friends and the stress of the mothers of both types of commuting family. (3) Mothers of two types of commuting families were different regarding the motives of parenting-guilty Difficulty of caring the children for their job as well as father-absentness makes mothers of dual-career commuting family feel parenting-guilty more.
The purpose of this study was to deepen our understanding about mothers' parenting stress in multi-cultural families. The study was conducted through in-depth interviews of 6 mothers from Mongolia, Philippines, and Japan who were living in Seoul. The findings of this study were as follows. First, mothers of multi-cultural families had difficulties of giving birth and child rearing, especially in the earliest years of their children. They were not fully adapted to the ways of living in Korea with little social support from family members and neighbors. Second, they were worried about their children's development, particularly language development due to their lack of understanding and fluency in Korean. Third, they were concerned about the cultural and racial discrimination against their children. They expected their children to be treated and respected equally like ordinary Korean children. Fourth, they were anxious about the fact that their children might not acquire the basic academic skills before they enter the elementary schools. Furthermore, they were worried that their children might not get as much educational support as they want. Fifth, despite the burden of mother's role in Korea, they wished to get a job to support their children for better education. In conclusion, the marriage immigrant mothers experienced the stress due to the lack of social support, the discrimination against immigrants, the possibilities of their children's delays in development, the disparity in the level of support for educating their children and the high expectations about their children's education in Korean society. Therefore it is necessary for the policy makers to consider more practical support system for the multi-cultural families in order for the marriage immigrant mothers to build up self-confidence in child rearing and educating their children.
The purpose of this study is to find the relationship between the infants' mother's parenting stresses and their environmental factors. The participants were 625 employed and 1453 non employed mothers from the Korean children panel in 2008. The collected data were analyzed by t-test and hierarchical regressions. The results are as follows. 1) The infant mothers experienced the medium level of parenting stresses. They reported the high level stresses in the parenting costs, the selecting parenting information, and the responsibility in their child's emotional stability. 2) The non employed mothers perceived more difficulties in the parenting situations than the employed mothers. The employed mothers perceived their environment and their parenting itself in positive way. They were in the good psychological conditions, having a well relationship with the husbands. They also had more knowledge in the child rearing and social supports. 3) The mother's psychological factors showed the high explanation power on their parenting stresses. 4) The father's parenting assistant affected the mother's parenting stresses only in the non employed mother.
Purpose: This study was aimed at identifying the levels of parenting stress among mothers of children with cerebral palsy and factors influencing parenting stress. Method: The research design was cross-sectional survey. Data were collected from 122 mothers of hospitalized children (under 15 years of age) with cerebral palsy at the Y medical center using the questionnaires. The data were analyzed using one way analysis of variance with Scheffe test for post-hoc analysis or t-test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The mean score of parenting stress was 2.52 (SD=0.79; range: 1~4). The father's participation, mother's parenting hours, self-esteem and social support were significant predictors of parenting stress, significantly accounting for the 33.3% variance (F=16.118, p<.001). Conclusion: It is essential for health professionals to consider the aforementioned four factors when developing interventions to reduce parenting stress for mothers of children with cerebral palsy.
This study was conducted to compare the emotional state between the mothers with low-birth-weights and mothers with normal infants, and to analyze the effects of home visiting for the low-birth-weights in one city. Data were collected from 51 mothers with low-birth-weights and 90 mothers with normal infants to compare emotional state, and from 26 mothers with low-birth weights to evaluate the effect of home visiting care. Summaries of results were as follows; 1. In mothers with low-birth-weights, social support form others was significantly lower than those of mothers with normal infants. Although the differences were not significant, mothers with low-birth-weights have more stress and child rearing burden, and less maternal self-esteem than those of mothers with normal infants. 2. Mothers with low-birth-weights, the more burden, postpartum depression, and the less husbands' support they felt. When they had lower maternal self-esteem and lower husbands' support, child rearing burden was higher. Also there was significant negative correlation between maternal self-esteem and postpartum depression. 3. In mothers with low-birth-weights, the score of post-intervention stress, care-giving burden, and postpartum depression were somewhat decreased, and maternal self-esteem was increased than pre-intervention data, although they were not statistically significant. 4. Mothers' satisfaction on the home-visiting care was considered to be high. In summary, mothers with low-birth-weights had lower social support even though they experienced more stress than mothers with normal infants. Therefore, public health nurse in community should pay more attention to them.
The study of prematurity stereotyping is important because the optimal development of premature infants may be threatened by the operation of the stereotape. The study was conducted in which mothers were asked to rate unfamiliar infants shown on videotapes. The infants were described as either full term or premature and as either male or female. Each mother was asked to rate the infant on 23,7-point adjective scales(S-KISS) and to answer several other questionnaires(LOT, PSI). In the study, infants labeled premature were rated more negatively than were infants labeled full term, but infants labeled male and female were rated similarly. The behavioral implications for child rearing as a result of this "prematurity stereotyping" were considered. Correlational analyses revealed significant relationships between prematurity stereotyping and parenting stress, optinism and parenting stress. Optimism effects parenting stress.

Objectives : This study was conducted to compare the object relations and parenting behavior of the mothers of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with that of the mothers with normal children. Methods : In this study, we studied 64 mothers of children who were diagnosed with ADHD and 90 mothers of normal children. The mothers completed the Bell Object Relations Inventory (BORI), the Parenting Behavior Inventory (PBI), the Parenting Stress Index (PSI) and the Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) scale. Results : As compared with the mothers of normal children, the mothers of children with ADHD showed significantly different results for the parenting stress and parenting efficacy. For parenting behavior, the mothers of children with ADHD perceived their mothering as being more neglectful. On the other hand, the mothers of the normal control group perceived their mothering as being more affectionate and the fathers as being more reasonable and monitoring. Conclusion : This study suggests there is a significant difference of object relation between the mothers of children with ADHD and the mothers with normal children. The object relation pathology of the mothers of children with ADHD might contribute to impaired parenting behavior. The result of the present study indicate that inadequate grandparental rearing behavior affects the insecure object relation of their child (the mother), and a mother's insecure object relation affects their parental stress and parenting efficacy.
This study explored the effect of mother's employment status on family environment and physical environment and psychological environment, the main concern of this which factors have effects on marital satisfactions of either employed or non-employed mothers. First, the result of analysis on family environment according to mothers' employment status shows non-employed mother's parental stress is higher than employed mother's. Besides, non-employed mother's self-esteem is lower than employed mother's, and non-employed mother's depression is significantly high. Concerning fathers' factors, the level of conflict between husband and wife is higher among husbands when their wives are employed. In the light of childrens' factors, non-employed mothers consider that their children display more negative emotion and more picky. Children's development of employed mothers is included in normal development range more than that of non-employed mothers. Second, conflict between husbands and wives have an significantly negative effect on marital satisfaction regardless wife's employment status. Husbands' cooperation in child-rearing and marital satisfaction have a positive effect on wives' marital satisfaction. The significant factor which influences on employed mother's marital satisfaction is education level of wives. This study would be meaningful in that infancy home environment was compared focusing on the mothers' employment status, and some factors which factors(variables) have impacts on marital satisfaction of infancy mothers were examined.

Also, as the balance of work and life in mobile environment emerged as an important issue, the need for integrated information management applications that give infant care assistance to new mothers was increased. This study analyzed preferences on infant care information apps and developed prototype apps for infant care information management that can provide integrated customized infant care information that is actually needed.
