Cephalosporium acremonium is a filamentous microorganism producing cephalosporin C. The morphological differentiation of C. acremonium in submerged culture is closely related with the rheological properties of culture broth and production of cephalosporin C. In this study, the rheological and morphological properties of culture broth of C. acremonium were investigated. In the seed broths of shake-flask and fermenter culture, the Herschel-Berkley equation was in excellent agreement with experimental results in the whole range of shear rate. In the seed broths of shake-flask culture, morphological differentiation into arthrospores affected to changes of apparent viscosity. But results in the fermenter culture, morphological factors such as mean hyphal thickness and the number of tips gave more effect on changes of apparent vitacosity than differentiation into arthrospores. Overall, it suggested that the morphological parameters measured by image analysis can be used as a good parameter to indicate the rheological properties of culture broth of C. acremonium M25.

Ecklonia cava Kjellman is a common kelp found in shallow subtidal in warm-temperate waters in the northwest Pacific Ocean. This species has shown substantial morphological variation along with subsistence in different locations and local environments. We quantified the magnitude of morphological variation of E. cava from six populations along ~700 km of coastline from Jeju Island to Dokdo in Korea. In addition, we examined genetic distance among the populations using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Most morphological characteristics investigated were significantly different among locations. Multivariate analyses indicated two phenetically distinct groups (nearshore, sheltered vs. offshore, exposed), indicating wave exposure with turbidity are presumably major factors for the separation. With RAPD data, results of Nei's diversity (H) and AMOVA showed considerable variations in within- and between-populations. Pairwise ${\Phi}_{ST}$ and $N_m$ values indicated moderate gene flow between the six locations. Results of Nei's analysis revealed three genetically distinct groups, not consistent with the morphological groupings, indicating that a time gap may exist between morphological and genetic variations. This study also suggests dispersal distance of this kelp may be longer than what is commonly thought and genetic similarity in the populations was largely reflected by the direction of ocean current rather than just geographical distance.

A surface-piercing barrier model is presented for understanding morphological development in the sheltered region and investigating the main factors causing the severe accumulation. Surface-piercing structures like vertical barriers, surface docks and floating breakwaters are recently favored from the point of view of a marine scenario since they do not in general partition the natural sea. The numerical solutions are compared with experimental data on wave profiles and morphological change rates within a rectangular harbor of a constant depth protected by surface-piercing thin breakwaters as a simplified problem. Our numerical study involves several modules: 1) wave dynamics analyzed by a plane-wave approximation, 2) suspended sediment transport combined with sediment erosion-deposition model, and 3) concurrent morphological changes. Scattering waves are solved by using a plane wave method without inclusion of evanescent modes. Evanescent modes are only considered in predicting the reflection ratio against the vertical barrier and energy losses due to vortex shedding from the lower edge of plate are taken into account. A new relationship to relate the near-bed concentration to the depth-mean concentration is presented by analyzing the vertical structure of concentration. The numerical solutions were also compared with experimental data on morphological changes within a rectangular harbor of constant water depth. Through the numerical experiments, the vortex-induced flow appears to be not ignorable in predicting the morphological changes although the immersion depth of a plate is not deep.
Mathematical morphology skeleton image processing makes many partial skeleton image planes from an original binary image. And the original binary image can be reconstructed without any distortion by summing the first partial skeleton image plane and each dilated partial skeleton image planes using the same structuring element. Especially compression effects of Elias coding to the morphological globally minimal skeleton(GMS) image, is better than that of PCX and Huffman coding. And then this paper proposes mathematical morphological GMS image processing which can be applied to a binary image transmitting for facimile and big size(bigger than $64{\times}64$ size) bitmap fonts storing in a memory.
This study aims to find out the genetic characteristics of gridded subdivision area which has its origin from ancient local administrative city-Sangju, Jeonju, Namwon, Kwangju, Chungju. The spatial structure, based on the inter-relationship among gridded subdivision area, city wall, and topographic condition, and the morphological characteristics of gridded subdivision area are analyzed. The points of analysis on morphological characteristics of gridded subdivision area consist of the size of unit block, the organization system of unit block, the orientation of subdivision line. As a result of the analysis, three main characteristics are found. Firstly there can be found no same land subdivision rule among study areas. Secondly, the morphological features of study area were the products of cumulative process of different subdivision areas which were developed in different periods. Thirdly, the original regular gridded land subdivision seems to have been carried out in the object of a farm-land cultivation around 7th century. And there was a change of land-use from farm land to urban land-use during the later 7th century and 8th century.

This study aimed to find out the morphological evolution process for future vision of world smart city. The contents and methods of study was divided and compared by 4 continents and Korea focused on the convergence numbers of ET and IT in smart city and did correlation analysis and analysis of convergence number in device/technology by periods. The analysis materials were 32 cases of smart city in whole world and times were 4 periods. The results of study were listed below. First, the smart city in period 1 was morphological evolutions preserved environment and kept natural form of existing city and filled up device/technology. Second, the smart city in period 2 was morphological evolutions through ET-centric development. Third, the smart city in period 3 was morphological evolutions through advancement of ET and device/technology related to production of energy. Forth, the smart city in period 4 was morphological evolutions fusing, dissipating and creating new ET and IT through the advancement process of all technologies. In conclusion, morphological evolution of smart city will change systematic city structure of convergence form, not each discriminating development between ET and IT, and the forming of smart city will be evolved by repetitive convergence process of technologies continually.
The present study aims to investigate how differences in terms of morphological awareness (MA) influence the learning of new words in young adults. Divided into two groups according to their MA, participants were asked to learn the meanings of rare Hanja words in both morphologically supported and unsupported sentence contexts. The results indicate that high-MA participants were more successful in learning the meanings of the words than the low-MA participants and that the group difference lasted for one week after learning. More importantly, the effect of MA was greater for rare words appearing within morphological supported sentences. These results suggest that both the availability of morphological analyses during learning and individual differences in MA influence the learning of word meanings.
Background: Research on the reproductive physiology of Water and Sika deer, an endemic in Korea, still needs to be completed. This study analyzed the ovarian development and morphological characteristics of wild Water deer and Sika deer. Methods: Water deer and Sika deer ovaries were collected from the Korean Peninsula and Russia-Korean Peninsula border during the estrus and pregnancy seasons, respectively. And, morphological and physiological analysis and immunohistochemistry were conducted to confirm the detection of Ca2+ and assess the morphological changes in the ovaries. Results: The results of morphological analysis of ovaries during pregnancy and estrus, the development of the corpus luteum and follicles of Water deer showed similar patterns to other mammals. In contrast, the corpus luteum of Sika deer differed in tissue morphology and composition from Water deer. Ca2+ related to tissue metabolism was detected in the theca cells zone of Water deer on the estrus and was highly detected in the luteum cells zone during pregnancy. The hormone receptor protein expression patterns were generally higher in the ovaries of Water deer on the estrus and the pregnancy than in Sika deer. The expression of LH receptor was relatively low in the lutein cell zone, unlikely that of Water deer. The expression of VEGF was also different from Water deer, and the response in Sika deer was relatively very low compared to Water deer in expressing all proteins-related development. Conclusions: Therefore, the results of the study were shown that the composition of the corpus luteum of Sika deer is not clear compared to Water deer, and there are many differences in the functional and morphological formation of the corpus luteum.
This study aims to establish the standards to give the design weight in case when developing equipment designs, by classifying products with similar purposes in accordance with the morphological characteristics and also extracting the typicality. Limiting the sampling group for the extraction of the typicality to a pendant-type and a ceiling buried-type through the preceding case study and consultation with experts, the survey was conducted for majors and relevant workers in six cities, sampling products released in Korea and Japan before May 2016. The 1st survey was about the Morphological classification, and the 2nd times about the extraction of the typicality while the 3rd one was about the classification of the morphological attributes. By drawing the design attributes based on the functional/morphological classification and formative principles, it aimed to establish the base of the future research on the measurement of design weight. The results of this study aim to efficiently establish the roles of design technology in accordance with changes in the lighting fixture market caused by the substitution of light sources, and also to draw the development direction to rapidly cope with the accelerated changes in lighting design types and corporate R&D.
Microscopic examination of the activated sludge and morphological characterization of the flocs provides detailed information about the treatment process. The aim of this study is to investigate the morphological parameters of flocs obtained from a thermophilic jet loop membrane bioreactor (JLMBR) in different sludge retention times (SRTs), considering EPS and SMP concentration, hydrophobicity, zeta potential. The results showed that irregularity decreased with the increasing SRT. The compactness value was calculated to be less than 1 for all SRTs. However, the sludge had a more compact structure when the SRT increased. Zeta potential increased whereas hydrophobicity and floc size reduced, with increasing SRT. Furthermore, 2-D porosity calculated using the hole ratio was higher at greater SRTs. Hence, there was a significant correlation between the results obtained using the imaging technique and operation conditions of thermophilic JLMBR.
