  • In this paper, we propose a new smoothing method for removing moire patterns using analysis of halftone patterns interference. The proposed method can determine a strength of moire patterns by using gray values of pixels and the size of smoothing mask for moire region is adjusted adaptively according to the strength of moire patterns. Therefore it can remove moire patterns effectively and preserve meaningful high frequencies well, such as edges and textures. The proposed method only refer to predefined lookup table to determine the strength of moire patterns, so it is more efficient than a previous work based on FFT of subblock. It could be applied to field of various multimedia applications that deal with color prints.

  • Objectives : This study aims to classify and analyze literature related to moire topography, as a diagnostic device of Korean medicine, discuss research trends and major results, and demonstrate the value of moire topography. Methods : To investigate moire topography research trends, Korean keywords that signify 'moire' were searched in a Korean journal search engine. Initially, 2,988 papers were found in the research, and, after classifying them and removing those that are duplicate in other databases, only 37 papers were applicable for the literature review in this study. To analyze research trends, the 37 papers were analyzed based on the publication year, research field, journal, and research type, and, clinical articles were classified based on the diagnosis purpose, subject characteristics, diagnosis method, test method, and test result, for analysis. Results : Moire topography research in South Korea was first conducted in 1995 and most active in 2003, mostly in the field of Korean medicine. In the journal analysis, The Journal of Korea CHUNA Manual Medicine for Spine & Nerves published the highest number of papers, most of which were clinical articles and the rest were literature review. And, in the analysis of clinical papers, based on the diagnosis purpose, muscle somatotype measurement was most common, followed by diagnosis of scoliosis. In terms of subjects, most studies focused on elementary, middle, and high school students, and, in terms of the diagnosis method, other tests were used in most studies. The analysis of moire topography methods showed that most studies measured the shoulder, back, and hip, and the most common measurement method in the studies measured the difference in contour lines on the left and right by designating a central line of the body. In terms of the result, most moire topography brought about significant diagnosis results, and many studies demonstrated its use for musculoskeletal diseases in particular. Conclusions : Moire topography is believed to be highly significant for diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases and further research will be needed to support it.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is researching for correlation between Moire topography results and questionnaire which include obesity rate, height, weight, posture, pain aspect (low back pain, headache, fatigue, neck pain etc), studying posture, school attendance method, menarche. Methods : The authors practiced Moire topography and questionnaire for primary & middle school 24,419 students [male 12,843, female 11,576] in Jeonbuk, korea in 2002. After we distinguished students who had abnormal finding in Moire topography and statistically analysed the data. Results : According to this research, the abnormal finding in Moire topography results was 37.3% (9,105 students), and students needed X-ray re-examination were 3.9% (953 students). According to statistical analysis, male/female and primary/middle school students have no difference in deformity degree of the body surface examined by Moire. Height and weight have low correlation with deformity degree of the body surface examined by Moire and menarche, pain aspect have no correlation. But, school attendance method by bicycle and $90^{\circ}$upright sitting in study posture is the best way to decrease the deformity degree of the body surface examined by Moire. Conclusions : Following this research, throughout Moire topography could detect trunk asymmetry that couldn't be found existing X-ray examination, and school attendance by bicycle and $90^{\circ}$upright sitting in study posture is good for school students to prevent back deformity.

  • This study focused on the method of interpreting Moire's topography. There has been no standard of interpretation which informed, this study, The conclusions arc as follows: Miore's image closed contour lines which is consisted of points. These points in one contour have the same distances from the screen to the patient's back. Moire's index means the number of contour gaps from symmetrical point of a specific point with the axis of central line. The number of contours which pass the median line means the degree of antero-posterior curvature.

  • The shadow moire is one the optical techniques which able to give contour lines of an object with respect to a master grating plane. The moire patterns are issued from the superposition of a grating and its shadow projected on the surface of an object. But in the conventional shadow moire method the reference grating and deformed grating are mutually dependent, it is impossible to obtain uniform phase shifts on the whole field by moving the reference grating. Here we propose ane trial to apply phase shifting to conventional shadow moire. When, in the conventional arrangement, Phase-shifting that is sctually constant regardless of fringe orders is achieved by moving the grating and the light source. Finally we obtained a better result by using this procedure and applied the phase shifting shadow moire to three dimensional measurement.

  • A technique is presented for evaluating spinal deformity of a human back by extracting a spinal line based on 3-D topograpic reconstruction of the back from its moire image. A given moire image is differentiatedby DOG filter to extract moire stripes. The stripes are then assigned labels and the labels are interpolated by the Lagrange polynomial to yield the undulation of the back which gives a relative 3-D shape of the back. A valley is searched on the undulation near the middle part of the back and the valley line is finally extracted as an approximated spinal line. The mean differenceand the variance between the spinal line and the middle line are calculated and reported. Experiment is performed employing real moire images ofjunior-high school students' backs and some of the results are shown with discussion.

  • This paper was intended to grasp an effect of body shaping by wearing girdle using moire topography. In wearing test, four type girdle were used, panty type, long leg type, high waist type, long leg and high waist type. Subjects were ten female college student (18-24 years old), they were selected on the size of the hip girth, waist girth that are within 25~75% in percent on the National Anthropometric survey of Korea in 1997. Three-dimentional characteristic of body shaping was analyzed by the moire topograph. As a result, body shaping effect was confirmed by moire pattern and horizantal section map. In case of the comparison through the moire topography, all the subjects have an effect on body shaping in part of waist girth, abdomen, and hip. Especially backside silhouettes on hip all the ten female subjects showed hip-up effect. Long leg type girdle was smooth side line in the hip and thigh. Further study required for the effect of wearing the girdle on the body shapeability and comfort.
