This paper deals with formulation of optimum multi-objective modified step-stress accelerated life test (ALT) plan for Burr type-XII distribution under type-I censoring. Since it is impractical to estimate only one objective parameter after conducting costly ALT tests; also, it is not desirable to assume instantaneous changes in stress levels because of limited capacity of test equipments and the presence of undesirable failure modes, therefore, an optimum multi-objective modified step-stress ALT plan has been designed. The optimal test plan consists in determining the optimum low stress level and optimal time at which stress starts linearly increasing from low stress by minimizing the weighted sum of the asymptotic variances of the maximum likelihood estimator of quantile lifetimes at design constant stress. The method developed has been illustrated using an example. Sensitivity analysis has been carried out. Comparative study has also been done to highlight the merits of the proposed model.

Accelerated life testing (ALT) is a well famous technique in life testing and reliability studies, this is particularly used to induce so high stress leading to failure of the highly reliable units quickly under stipulated duration of time. The step-stress ALT is one of the systematic experimental strategy of ALT applied to fail the units in steps. In this article we focus on two important issues (i) necessity of life tests at higher steps with relevant causes (ii) to develop a new optimum test plan for 3-step SSALT under the modified cumulative exposure model proposed by Khamis and Higgins (1998). It is assumed that the lifetime of test units follows Rayleigh distribution and its scale parameter at constant stress level is assumed to be a log-linear function of the stress. The maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters involved in the step-stress ALT model are obtained. A simulation study is performed for numerical investigation of the proposed new optimum plan 3-step, step-stress ALT. The necessity of the life test units at 3-step step-stress is also numerically examined in comparison to simple step-stress setup.
This paper proposes the step-stress type-I censoring model for analyzing the data of accelerated life test and reducing the time of accelerated life test. In order to obtain the data of accelerated life test, the step-stress accelerated life test was run with voltage stress to CMOS Hex Buffer. The Weibull distribution, the Inverse-power-law model and Maximum likelihood method were used. The iterative procedure using modified-quasi-linearization method is applied to solve the nonlinear equation. The proposed Weibull step-stress type-I censoring model exactly estimases the life time of units, while reducting the time of accelerated life test and the equipments of test.
The k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence models by Launder et al.(1977, LPS) and Leschziner and Rodi(1981, LR) are modified to account for the secondary straining effect with having a generality in the present paper. The modified models are obtained by replacing the gradient Richardson number used to account for the secondary straining effect in the original models by a new parameter with a tensor-invariant correction form. These two modified models are used to predict the turbulent flow over a backward-facing step. In contrast to both standard and modified LR models, the modified LPS model is found to predict the reattachment point fairy well, as well as mean velocity, wall static pressure, turbulent kinetic energy and Reynolds shear stress in the recirculating region.
In this paper, a new high step up DC/DC converter with a modified super-lift technique is presented. The coupled inductor technique is combined with the super-lift technique to provide a tenfold or more voltage gain with a proper duty cycle and a low turn ratio. Due to a high conversion ratio, the voltage stress on the semiconductor devices is reduced. As a result, low voltage ultra-fast recovery diodes and low on resistance MOSFET can be used, which improves the reverse recovery problems and conduction losses. This converter employs a passive clamp circuit to recycle the energy stored in the leakage inductance. The proposed convertor features a high conversion ratio with a low turn ratio, low voltage stress, low reverse recovery losses, omission of the inrush currents of the switch capacitor loops, high efficiency, small volume and reduced cost. This converter is suitable for renewable energy applications. The operational principle and a steady-state analysis of the proposed converter are presented in details. A 200W, 30V input, 380V output laboratory prototype circuit is implemented to confirm the theoretical analysis.

The interaction between hydrophobically modified hydroxyethyl cellulose (hmHEC), containing approximately 1 wt% side-alkyl chains of $C_{16}$, and an anionic sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) surfactant was investigated. For a semi-dilute solution of 0.5 wt% hmHEC, the previously observed behaviour of a maximum in solution viscosity at intermediate SDS concentrations, followed by a drop at higher SDS concentrations, until above the cmc of surfactant when the solution resembles that of the unsubstituted polymer, was confirmed. Additionally, a two-phase region containing a hydrogel phase and a water-like supernatant was found at low SDS concentrations up to 0.2 wt%, a concentration which is akin to the critical association concentration, cac, of SDS in the presence of hmHEC. Above this concentration, SDS molecules bind strongly to form mixed micellar aggregates with the polymer alkyl side-chains, thus strengthening the network junctions, resulting in the observed increase in viscosity and elastic modulus of the solution. The shear behaviour of this polymer-surfactant complex during steady and step stress experiments was examined In great detail. Between SDS concentrations of 0.2 and 0.25 wt%, the shear viscosity of the hmHEC-polymer complex network undergoes shear-induced thickening, followed by a two-stage shear-induced fracture or break-up of the network. The thickening is thought to be due to structural rearrangement, causing the network of flexible polymers to expand, enabling some polymer hydrophobic groups to be converted from intra- to inter-chain associations. At higher applied stress, a partial local break-up of the network occurs, while at even higher stress, above the critical or network yield stress, a complete fracture of the network into small microgel-like units, Is believed to occur. This second network rupture is progressive with time of shear and no steady state in viscosity was observed even after 300 s. The structure which was reformed after the cessation of shear is found to be significantly different from the original state.
To prevent the damage of glass lens molds and deterioration of glass lenses using in progressive GMP process, a thermal stress and a deformation of the glass lens molds at forming temperature should be considered in the design step. In this study, as a fundamental study to develop a multi cavity mold used in an aspheric glass lens molding, a heat transfer and a thermal stress analysis were carried out for the case of one cavity glass lens mold used in progressive GMP process. Finally, using analysis results, we estimated the thermal stress in a glass lens mold and predicted a modified height of guide ring that determines the forming height of a glass lens.
Among the test methods to evaluate stress-corrosion cracking(SCC) on the basis of fracture mechanics, constant displacement(bolt) loading method using modified-WOL specimen is practically convenient. In this test method, compliance formula is generally required to calculate load(consequently $K_{ISCC}$). There are many problems in using the analytic compliance formula to calculate $K_{ISCC}$, so we had proposed the experimental $K_{ISCC}$ evaluation technique in the previous report. This study has employed the slightly altered configuration of modified-WOL specimen made of weldable structural stee(BS360-50D). With these specimens, stress-corrosion tests have been performed in $H_2S$ gas saturated 20% HCl solution. Through the test, the problems as mentioned earlier have been discussed again, and the proposed evaluation technique has been verified. And the stress-corrosion cracks and hydrogen blisters have been investigated in the initiation step with the aids of metallurgical micrographs, SEM fractographs, and EPMA analysis. The inclusions segregated in the mid-thickness region traps hydrogen to produce the hydrogen blistering. The applied or residual stress does not contribute the occurrence of the blister. Hydrogen absorbed into the mid-thickness region is consumed to produce the blistering so that stress-corrosion crack could hardly be detected at that region. The stress-corrosion cracks initiate from the inclusions and propagate in radial pattern. And the initiation site is remote from the crack tip and is inclined from the crack plane, which is assumed to be caused by the triaxial stress and the amount of the absorbed hydrogen.
A computer software was developed for predictions of fatigue crack initiation life of notched members under variable loadings. The software was constructed based on a new fatigue life prediction method utilizing modified .epsilon.-N curves, which can account for the stress interaction effect. The effect of mean plastic strain on low-cycle fatigue life was also incorporated in the software. The software can be utilized for the first step approximation when fundamental data of material fatigue properties are not available.
