The dynamic stability of a functionally graded polymer microbeam reinforced by graphene oxides subjected to a periodic axial force is investigated. The microbeam is assumed to rest on an elastic substrate and is subjected to various immovable boundary restraints. The weight fraction of graphene oxides nanofillers is graded across the beam thickness. The effective Young's modulus of the functionally graded graphene oxides reinforced composite (FG-GORC) was determined using modified Halpin-Tsai model, with the mixture rule used to evaluate the effective Poisson's ratio and the mass density. An improved third order shear deformation theory (TSDT) is used in conjunction with the Chebyshev polynomial-based Ritz method to derive the Mathieu-Hill equations for dynamic stability of the FG-GORC microbeam, in which the scale effect is taken into account based on modified couple stress theory. Then, the Mathieu-Hill equation was solved using Bolotin's method to predict the principle unstable regions of the FG-GORC microbeams. The numerical results show the effects of the small scale, the graphene oxides nanofillers as well as the elastic substrate on the dynamic stability behaviors of the FG-GORC microbeams.
In this work, a new hyperbolic shear deformation beam theory is proposed based on a modified couple stress theory (MCST) to investigate the bending and free vibration responses of functionally graded (FG) micro beam made of porous material. This non-classical micro-beam model introduces the material length scale coefficient which can capture the size influence. The non-classical beam model reduces to the classical beam model when the material length scale coefficient is set to zero. The mechanical material properties of the FG micro-beam are assumed to vary in the thickness direction and are estimated through the classical rule of mixture which is modified to approximate the porous material properties with even and uneven distributions of porosities phases. Effects of several important parameters such as power-law exponents, porosity distributions, porosity volume fractions, the material length scale parameter and slenderness ratios on bending and dynamic responses of FG micro-beams are investigated and discussed in detail. It is concluded that these effects play significant role in the mechanical behavior of porous FG micro-beams.
In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of a composite cylindrical beam made of a mechanism of carbon dioxide absorption coated on the tube core are investigated based on the classical beam theory coupled with the modified couple stress theory. The composite tube structures are assumed to be uniform along the tube length, and the energy method regarding the Hamilton principle is utilized for generating the governing equations. A powerful numerical solution, the generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM), is employed to solve the differential equations. The carbon dioxide trapping mechanism is a composite consisting of a polyacrylonitrile substrate and a cross-link polydimethylsiloxane gutter layer. Methacrylate, poly (ethylene glycol), methyl ether methacrylate, and three pedant methacrylates are all taken into account as potential mechanisms for capturing carbon dioxide. The application of the present study is helpful in the design and production of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and the different valuable parameters, such as the length-scale parameter, rate of section change, aspect ratio, etc., are presented in detail.
Using artificial intelligence and internet of things methods in engineering and industrial problems has become a widespread method in recent years. The low computational costs and high accuracy without the need to engage human resources in comparison to engineering demands are the main advantages of artificial intelligence. In the present paper, a deep neural network (DNN) with a specific method of optimization is utilize to predict fundamental natural frequency of a cylindrical structure. To provide data for training the DNN, a detailed numerical analysis is presented with the aid of functionally modified couple stress theory (FMCS) and first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The governing equations obtained using Hamilton's principle, are further solved engaging generalized differential quadrature method. The results of the numerical solution are utilized to train and test the DNN model. The results are validated at the first step and a comprehensive parametric results are presented thereafter. The results show the high accuracy of the DNN results and effects of different geometrical, modeling and material parameters in the natural frequencies of the structure.

In this paper, the free vibrations analysis of the nanoplates made of three-directional functionally graded material (TDFGM) with small scale effects is presented. To study the small-scale effects on natural frequency, modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) has been used. Material properties of the nanoplate follow an arbitrary function that changes in three directions along the length, width and thickness of the plate. The equilibrium equations and boundary conditions of nanoplate are obtained using the Hamilton's principle. The generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is used to solve the governing equations and different boundary conditions for obtaining the natural frequency of nanoplate made of three-directional functionally graded material. The present model can be transformed into a couple stress plate model or a classic plate model if two or all parameters of the length scales set to zero. Finally, numerical results are presented to study the small-scale effect and heterogeneity constants and the aspect ratio with different boundary conditions on the free vibrations of nanoplates. To the best of the researchers' knowledge, in the literature, there is no study carried out into MSGT for free vibration analysis of FGM nanoplate with arbitrary functions.
In this paper mechanical behavior of the functional gradient materials (FGM) micro-gripper under thermal load and DC voltage is numerically investigated taking into account the effect of intermolecular forces. In contrary to the similar previous works, which have been conducted for homogenous material, here, the FGM material has been implemented. It is assumed that the FGM micro-gripper is made of metal and ceramic and that material properties are changed continuously along the beam thickness according to a given function. The nonlinear governing equations of the static and dynamic deflection of microbeams have been derived using the coupled stress theory. The equations have been solved using the Galerkin based step-by-step linearization method (SSLM). The solution procedure has been evaluated against available data of literature showing good agreement. A parametric study has been conducted, focusing on the combined effects of important parameters included DC voltage, temperature variation, geometrical dimensions and ceramic volume concentration on the dynamic response and stability of the FGM micro-gripper.
This work treats the axisymmetric buckling of functionally graded (FG) porous annular/circular nanoplates based on modified couple stress theory (MCST). The nanoplate is located at the elastic medium which is simulated by Kerr foundation with two spring and one shear layer. The material properties of the porous FG nanostructure are assumed to vary through the nanoplate thickness based on power-law rule. Based on two variables refined plate theory, the governing equations are derived by utilizing Hamilton's principle. Applying generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM), the buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates is obtained for different boundary conditions. The influences of different involved parameters such as boundary conditions, Kerr medium, material length scale parameter, geometrical parameters of the nanoplate, FG power index and porosity are demonstrated on the nonlinear buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates. The results indicate that with increasing the porosity of the nanoplate, the nonlinear buckling load is decreased. In addition, with increasing the material length scale parameter to thickness ratio, the effect of spring constant of Kerr foundation on the buckling load becomes more prominent. The present results are compared with those available in the literature to validate the accuracy and reliability. A good agreement is observed between the two sets of the results.

Buckling and free vibration analysis of sandwich micro plate (SMP) integrated with piezoelectric layers embedded in orthotropic Pasternak are investigated in this paper. The refined Zigzag theory (RZT) is taken into consideration to model the SMP. Four different types of functionally graded (FG) distribution through the thickness of the SMP core layer which is reinforced with single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are considered. The modified couple stress theory (MCST) is employed to capture the effects of small scale effects. The sandwich structure is exposed to a two dimensional magnetic field and also, piezoelectric layers are subjected to external applied voltages. In order to obtain governing equation, energy method as well as Hamilton's principle is applied. Based on an analytical solution the critical buckling loads and natural frequency are obtained. The effects of volume fraction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), different distributions of CNTs, foundation stiffness parameters, magnetic and electric fields, small scale parameter and the thickness of piezoelectric layers on the both critical buckling loads and natural frequency of the SMP are examined. The obtained results demonstrate that the effects of volume fraction of CNTs play an important role in analyzing buckling and free vibration behavior of the SMP. Furthermore, the effects of magnetic and electric fields are remarkable on the mechanical responses of the system and cannot be neglected.
The size-dependent nonlinear thermomechanical vibration analysis of pre- and post-buckled tapered two-directional functionally graded (2D-FG) microbeams is presented in this study. In the context of the modified couple stress theory, the formulations are derived based on the parabolic shear deformation beam theory and von Karman nonlinear strains. Different thermomechanical material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependent and smoothly vary in both length and thickness directions using the power law and the physical neutral axis concept is employed. The nonlinear governing equations are derived using the Hamilton principle and the resulting variable coefficient equations of motion are solved using the differential quadrature method (DQM) and iterative Newton's method for clamped-clamped and simply supported boundary conditions. Comparison studies are presented to validate the derived model and solution procedure. The impacts of induced thermal moments, temperature power index, two gradient indices, nonuniform cross-section, and microstructure length scale parameter on the frequency-temperature configurations are explored for both clamped and simply supported microbeams.

The present study analyzed free vibration of the three-layered micro annular/circular plate which its core and face sheets are made of saturated porous materials and FG-CNTRCs, respectively. The structure is subjected to magneto-electric fields and magneto-electro-mechanical pre loads. Mechanical properties of the porous core and also FG-CNTRC face sheets are varied through the thickness direction. Using dynamic Hamilton's principle, the motion equations based on MCS and FSD theories are derived and solved via GDQ as an efficient numerical method. Effect of different parameters such as pores distributions, porosity coefficient, pores compressibility, CNTs distribution, elastic foundation, multi-physical pre loads, small scale parameter and aspect ratio of the plate are investigated. The findings of this study can be useful for designing smart structures such as sensor and actuator.
