An upstream scheme based on the pseudostress-velocity mixed formulation is studied to solve convection-dominated Oseen equations. Lagrange multipliers are introduced to treat the trace-free constraint and the lowest order Raviart-Thomas finite element space on rectangular mesh is used. Error analysis for several quantities of interest is given. Particularly, first-order convergence in $L^2$ norm for the velocity is proved. Finally, numerical experiments for various cases are presented to show the efficiency of this method.
The Enriched Free Mesh Method (EFMM) is a patch-wise procedure in which both a displacement field on an element and a stress/strain field on a cluster of elements connected to a node can be defined. On the other hand, the Superconvergent Patch Recovery (SPR) is known to be an efficient post-processing procedure of the finite element method to estimate the error norm at a node. In this paper, we discuss the relationship between solutions of the EFMM and those of the SPR through several convergence studies. In addition, in order to solve the demerit of the smoothing effect on the fracture mechanics fields, we implement a singular stress field to a local patch in the EFMM, and its effectiveness is investigated.

This paper deals with a hex-dominant mesh generation using an advancing front method for three-dimensional geometries. Hexahedral and prismatic meshes are generated inwardly by offsetting from initial boundary mesh. When the meshes intersect with each other after offsetting, overlapped meshes are improved by node relocation method. In order to generate conforming mesh, pyramid elements are inserted between hexahedral and tetrahedral elements. Sample meshes fur several geometries are presented and analized to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, a tetrahedral mesh generation algorithm which uses a grid based method for interior region and an advancing front method for outer surface region is proposed. In order to apply an advancing front method for outer region of an object, a new operator so called a hole operator has been developed to handle multiple shells. With this grid based approach in the interior region, more stable and uniform meshes can be constructed especially in the interior region.

In this paper, a good quality mesh generation for the finite element method is investigated for artificial hip joint simulations. In general, bad meshes with a large aspect ratio or mixed elements can give rise to excessively long computational running times and extremely high errors. Typically, hexahedral elements outperform tetrahedral elements during three-dimensional contact analysis using the finite element method. Therefore, it is essential to mesh biologic structures with hexahedral elements. Four meshing schemes for the finite element analysis of an artificial hip joint are presented and compared: (1) tetrahedral elements, (2) wedge and hexahedral elements, (3) open cubic box hexahedral elements, and (4) proposed hexahedral elements. The proposed meshing scheme is to partition a part before seeding so that we have a high quality three-dimensional mesh which consists of only hexahedral elements. The von Mises stress distributions were obtained and analyzed. We also performed mesh refinement convergence tests for all four cases.
0.4 Million tons of shell powder have been disused as waste in KOREA and caused severe environmental pollution though shell powder can be utilized in real life for many ways. It is impending problem to recycle shell powder as it requires high expense for burying and temporary outside heap and causes severe environmental pollution being a main factor of ocean waste. To suggest the basic data for development of eco-friendly and high-function Wall Coatings Thin Textured Finishes, a wall coating sample was applied to indoor walls of a mock-up and temperature and humidity were measured to assess the thermal performance of it, and a survey of preference for the color sense and feel of the materials with a movie of specimens. The results of the study are following; 1) High insulation performance is shown from the assessment result of the room polystyrene board adhered on the walls then high humidity controlling performance is shown from that of the room polystyrene board coated by shell powder. This point out that shell powder has superiority for humidity controlling. 2) The result of thermal and humidity assessment shows that shell powder makes up for thermal conduction of the polystyrene board and same result can be expected from the assessment with materials which has similar thermal characteristics with polystyrene.3) Ranking of preferred specimens is; 1st Case 13, 2nd Case 17, 3rd Case 16, and 4th Case 12. Preferred shell powder was the ark shell. Preferred powder for plaster was the powder mixed with that sifted by 0.8mm, 100mesh and 40mesh, and for spray was the fine powder mixed with that sifted by 100mesh and 40mesh.

In this study, 2-D Godunov type finite volume model which can apply the mixed mesh including triangular and quadrilateral meshes for flood inundation modeling is used to compare and analyze the flood height, flood extent and model execution time according to mesh type and resolution. The study area is the Upton-upon Severn watershed in Great Britain, where the flood occurred for 22 days from October 29 to November 19, 2000. For the flood modeling, topographic data were constructed using high resolution LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging). The results of the 2-D flood modeling by the mesh type and resolution were compared with four ASAR (Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar) images captured during the flood period. This study has shown that flood height and extent can vary greatly depending on the mesh type and resolution, even if identical topography and boundary conditions are used, and that the selection of appropriate mesh type and resolution for the purpose and situation of the 2-D flood modeling is necessary.

A 3D solid element mesh generation algorithm was newly developed. 3D surface points of global rectangular coordinates were supplied by a 3D laser scanner. The algorithm is strait forward and simple but it generates mixed solid elements such as hexagonal, pyramid and prism types. Then, the surface triangular or rectangular elements were generated from the solid elements. The key of the algorithm is elimination of elements and 3D adaptive surface smoothing using given 3D surface point data.
The wireless mesh network (WMN) has attracted significant interests as a broadband wireless network to provide ubiquitous wireless access for broadband services. Especially with incorporating multiple orthogonal channels and multiple directional antennas into the WMN, each node can communicate with its neighbor nodes simultaneously without interference between them. However, as we allow more freedom, we need a more sophisticated algorithm to fully utilize it and developing such an algorithm is not easy in general. In this paper, we study a joint channel assignment, link scheduling, routing, and rate control problem for the WMN with multiple orthogonal channels and multiple directional antennas. This problem is inherently hard to solve, since the problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear problem (MINLP). However, despite of its inherent difficulty, we develop an algorithm to solve the problem by using the generalized Benders decomposition approach [2]. The simulation results show the proposed algorithm provides the optimal solution to maximize the network utility, which is defined as the sum of utilities of all sessions.

In this paper, we deal with a ring-mesh network design problem arising from the deployment of WDM for the optical internet. The ring-mesh network consists of ring topology and full mesh topology for satisfying traffic demand while minimizing the cost of OAOMs and OXCs. The problem seeks to find an optimal clustering of traffic demands in the network such that the total number of node assignments is minimized, while satisfying ring capacity and node cardinality constraints. We formulate the problem as a mixed-integer programming model and prescribe a tabu search heuristic procedure Promising computational results within 3% optimality gap are obtained using the proposed method.
