Behaviors Related to Pornography in Primary, Middle and High School Students (초.중.고등학생의 음란물 접촉 일부 행태)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate behavior related to viewing pornography sites by primary, middle, and high school students in one province. Methods: The participants were 2,939 primary (5, 6 grade), middle and high school students (1, 2 and 3 grade), chosen at random in big cities, small towns and rural areas of North Cholla Province. Results: The first experience of finding pornography sites by oneself was 21.1% for the total sample and for primary school students 6.8%, for middle school students, 31.0%, and for high school students, 62.2%. The first time on a pornography site was highest for middle school students (62.0%) and for grade, middle school 1 grade (25.7%). The pornography use resulted in difficulties with study (11.3%), desire to imitate what was seen in pornography (10.9%), imitation of what was seen the pornography (3.9%), and desire to visit pornography sites everyday (2.3%). Pornography contact behavior was related to gender and school type (p<.05). Independent access to pornography and experiencing difficulties with study were related to area of residence (p<.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that systematic education policy and further research on needs for pornography contact should be examined to develop programs to decrease pornography contact behavior.

Factors Related to Frequency of Breakfast Eating and Dietary Life Score in Elementary, Middle, and High School Students Residing in Kyungpook (경북지역 일부 초.중.고 학생의 식생활점수와 아침식사 섭취 빈도 관련 요인 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to eating behavior of breakfast and dietary life score in elementary, middle, and high school students. This study was conducted by administering questionnaires, and data were analyzed by the SPSS program. The subjects were divided into three groups according to school group (elementary, middle, and high school). The subjects consisted of 1,879 students (male 973, female 906) from 11 schools in Kyungpook. The distribution of subjects was as follows: elementary school children 682, middle school students 702, and high school students 495. The results are summarized as follows. Dietary life score was 72.64 for elementary school students, 64.77 for middle school students, and 62.67 for high school students. Frequency of eating breakfast and reasons for skipping breakfast were significantly different according to school group (P<0.001, P<0.01, respectively). The main reason for skipping breakfast was 'habitual skip' for elementary and middle school students (54.8%, 46.7%) and 'getting up too late' in high school students (55.4%). There were no significant association between frequency of eating breakfast and BMI. However, there were significant differences in school performance and sleeping hours according to frequency of eating breakfast (P<0.001, P<0.01, respectively). Dietary life score was significantly different according to frequency of eating breakfast (P<0.001). These results stress the need for intervention programs aimed at decreasing the frequency of skipping breakfast in children and students at school. Further, those who prepares meals for children must increase their concern about preparing breakfast.

Middle & High School Students' Fitness of Sizing System and Satisfaction for Fall and Winter School Uniform (남자 중, 고등학생의 교복 치수 맞음새 및 만족도에 관한 연구 - 동복을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide information on how to improve both the satisfaction and the current sizing system for the school uniform focused on middle and high school boys' students. In order to collect the data, a questionnaire was administered to 451 middle and high school boy students. 228 middle school boys' and 223 high school boys' data were analyzed using the SPSS Win. 10.0 program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. For the satisfaction of their school uniform, there were statistical differences in mean of the group by the academic year in the jacket(color, textile, design, activity), shirt(color, design, activity), and pants(color, design, activity) in the case of middle school boys'. On the other hand, high school boys' evaluation of school uniform was significantly different in jacket(color), shirt(color, textile, design, activity), pants(design), and tie(color, textile, design) by the academic year. 2. For the evaluation of sizing fitness, the length of jacket and the breadth of sleeve in jacket, and the width of sleeve in blouse, the length of pants, and the width of pants were statistical differences in mean of the group in middle school boys' by the grade whereas there was no significant difference in high school students by the grade. 3. It was shown that more getting school uniform repaired after the point of purchase in both middle school and high school students was higher.

The Analysis on Factors related to Suicide Ideation of Middle and High School Students in Korea (우리나라 중.고등학생의 자살 생각 관련요인 분석)

  • Purpose: By analyzing factors related to suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students, the purpose of this study was to multi-dimensionally understand suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students and arrange the plans to prevent suicide. Methods: This study used and analyzed the data on ‘The 3rd (Year2007) Korea Youth Health Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYHRBWS)' conducted by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this study, we analyzed 74,698 respondents in total. SPSS 12.0 Program was used to analyze the survey. Descriptive statistics, Chi-Square Test and multivariate logistic regression were also used as research methods. Results: 23.8% of the Korean middle and high school students had suicide ideation during the last one year. Girls had higher possibility of suicide ideation by 1.51 times compared to boys. Students with poor academic achievement had more suicide ideation. In terms of health characteristics, students who perceived themselves as not healthy, and students with short weekday sleeping hours, more drinking experience and more smoking experience had more suicide ideation than others. Furthermore, students who perceived themselves as overweight or obese had more suicide ideation than other students. In terms of mental characteristics, students with high level of stress, low level of happiness and depression had more suicide ideation. Conclusion: As a result of this study, we found out that the factor that had the biggest influence on suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students was depression. Consequently, active supports and policies to decrease suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students are necessary. Therefore, active interviews, education for suicide prevention, and periodical screening inspection should be introduced in schools.

The Study on the Attitude about Drugs ad the Actual Conditions on Drug Abuse of Middle and High School Students in Pusan City (부산시내 중·고등학생의 약물에 대한 태도와 남용실태에 관한 조사연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for preventing the youth from their dug abuse and contributing to improve their health. A total of 1,210 students of middle and high schools in Pusan were selected to answer this questionnaire. The data was collected from March 23 to April 6, 1995. The major findings of this study are as follows; 1) The attitude about drugs of middle and high school students was desirable. By groups, girl students showed more desirable attitude than boy students, and middle school students than high school students. 2) For the experience of drinking coffee, 70.4% of the subjects of survey answered that they have had:62.4% of middle school students and 78.9% of high school students. For the stated time of drinking coffee 59.8% of them, the largest number, said from middle school days. 3) For the experience of drinking alcoholic liquors, 40.4% of the subjects of survey answered that they have had: 51.4%n of boy students and 29.5% of girl students, 23.4% of middle school students and 57.7% of high school students. For the started time of drinking liquors 53.1% of them, the largest number, said from middle school days. 4) For the experience of smoking, 24.8% of the subjects of survey answered that they have had: 37.2% of boy students and 12.5% of girl students, 16.3% of middle school students and 33.3% of high school students. For the started time of smoking 52.0% of them, the largest number, said from middle school days. 5) For the experience of drugs, 6.3% of the subjects of survey answered that they have had. For the started time of abusing drugs 71.0% of them, the largest number, said from middle school days. The kinds and composing ratio of abused drugs were: Timing was 51.4%, bond 20.3%, butane gas 12.6%, thinner 3.8%, methamphetamine 1.9% and mescaline 1.9%. 6) The attitude points toward drugs in case of not taking coffee and liquors, smoking and abusing drugs were higher than the points in case of taking them. 7) The rate of abusing drugs in case of taking coffee and liquors and smoking was higher than that in case of not taking them and smoking.

The influence of income and emotional closeness with father/mother on middle and high school-adolescent's alienation (소득과 부/모와의 정서적 친밀감이 중고교 청소년의 소외감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of income and emotional closeness with father/mother on middle and high school-adolescent's alienation The subjects were 327 middle and high school students who lived with two-parent in Keoungbok and whose household income was lower \4,000,000. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression(using SPSS 12.1). Major findings were as follows: 1) Middle and high school students's alienation was difference. The level of the high school adolescent's alienation was higher than the middle school adolescent's alienation. 2) Middle and high school students's alienation was differed by level of income and emotional closeness with father/mother. The lower level of income and emotional closeness with father/mother, the higher level of adolescent's alienation. 3) Among the income, emotional closeness with father/mother, the income was more influential predictor on high school-adolescent's alienation. But the income was not a significant predictor of middle school-adolescent's alienation. emotional closeness with father was more influential predictor on middle school-adolescent's alienation.

A Study on Knowledge, Experience in Venereal Disease and the Needs of Sex Education for the Middle and High School Students in Urban Area (일부 중 . 고등학생의 성에 대한 지식 및 태도에 관한 고찰)

  • In order to study middle school and high school students' knowledge and experiences in sexually transmitted diseases(STD) and needs of sex education for them, a survey was conducted at four schools in Seoul from December 7 to 12, 1983. The subject of the survey was 403 of middle school students(boy-199, girl-204) and 672 of high school students(boy-419, girl-353) who were randomly sampled. 1. Knowledge: The level of students' knowledge on venereal disease was relatively low. Boy students have more knowledge on STD than girl students. 2. Experience: 3.7% of the respondents have experiences in venereal disease. 20.0% of the middle school students and 80.0% of the high school students whom 3.7% of the respondents. 3. Need of sex education: 32.5% of the respondents suffer from sexual problems and 80.0% of the respondents want to learn more about sex education. In conclusion, sex education for students is required and should be included in regular curricula of all level of Korean schools.

Study on Eating Habits and Food Preference for Breakfast of Elementary, Middle, or High School Students in the Incheon Area (인천지역 초, 중, 고등학생의 아침식사 섭취 실태 및 식품 기호도 조사 연구)

  • The study surveyed the dietary behavior, food intake, and food preference for breakfast of elementary, middle, or high school students, a total of 354 boys and 305 girls. The students skipped breakfast due to no appetite, followed by no time. Elementary school students ate grains and potatoes more often than middle or high school students(p<0.05), and bap was the most frequently consumed cereals, with juk and tteok as the least. High school students ate meat, ham, sausage and boiled fish cake (eomuk) more often than the elementary or middle school students(p<0.05). Middle school students ate milk and dairy products as well as vegetables and fruits more often(p<0.05) than other foods. Preference for fish and fresh vegetables and salad was significantly high in middle school students. The score of dietary behavior was the highest in elementary school students, followed by middle and high school students(p<0.001). As the students advanced to the upper grade schools, breakfast skipping increased, with lowered dietary behavior scores. The results suggest that a variety of breakfast menus and recipes should be developed at home and schools by considering the preference of students in order to reduce breakfast skipping and to improve their satisfaction with breakfast.

A study on the awareness of oral health behavior and oral health education for a middle schools and high schools in Busan, Gyeongnam province (부산·경남 일부 중고등학생의 구강보건행동 및 구강보건교육경험 인지도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to transfer the knowledge of oral health care and to improve the oral health after the effective education of oral health behavior. The survey is conducted for 484 middle and high school students in Busan and Gyeongnam province about the oral health behavior, the cause and the preventive of oral diseases and oral health education experience by the self-answering method. The date was analysed using the SPSS 13.0 program. The obtained result were as follows. 1. 38.8% students in middle school have been to the dentist within one year and the reason is the dental care that is to 61.7% in the case of the high school students. 2. For the daily toothbrushing frequency. above 3 times is highest to 57.9% in middle school students and 2 times 59.9% in high school students. 3. 45.9% and 45.0% students in middle and high school have the regular dental check-ups to prevent the dental caries and periodontal disease with greatest portion. 4. 35.7% respondents had experienced oral health education. 48% of them got the education from the dental clinics. 82.2% of the education method is a theory and the contents is toothbrushing method with 58.7% portion. 5. 86% respondents of middle school students answered that regular oral health education is necessary and 78.1% students are willing to participate in the oral health education. The results of this study propose that the regular dental check-ups for middle and high school students enable them have early medical treatment and protection against oral disease. Also for the effective oral health education, those program and various media should be developed systematically to enhance the students' motive for oral health.

The Estimation of the Daily Energy Expenditure of Korean Adolescents (중.고등학교 남.여 청소년의 에너지 소비실태)

  • Middle and high school students in Korea spend a lot of time at school. In other words, many Korean teenagers spend most of their time studying, and have little time for other activities, such as physical workouts. Fewer physical activities, and consumption of many snacks, etc. may lead to overweight or obesity in some teenagers. This study was conducted to find out the activity levels of teenagers' in order to calculate their daily energy expenditures. A total of 1,192 students (461 middle school students and 731 high school students) who lives in either a city or a country area were recruited for this study. One-day Activity Diaries were collected using questionnaires and analyzed by means of SPSS /win. The participating students spent about 7 hours 24 minutes resting including sleeping; 6 hours 28 minutes studying ,4 hours 4 minutes in leisure activities , 1 hour 32 minutes in personal hygiene activities such as washing, dressing and undressing, etc., 50 minutes on transportation : and 23 minutes on household chores such as cleaning, doing the laundry, etc. The average activity factor was 1.49. That of middle school female students was the lowest at 1.47, followed by middle school male students at 1.48, high school female students at 1.49, and high school male students at 1.51. The daily energy expenditure of middle and high school male students was 2,289 kcal and 2,600 kcal, respectively. That of female students was 1,959 kcal and 2,067 kcal, respectively.
