  • In the current construction industry, difficulty arises in creating an adequate baseline schedule to establish a fundamental plan for construction. This presentation will present the research findings which investigated industry-recognized schedule metrics that aid in the successful implementation of said schedule. Industry organizations (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, the Government Accountability Office, the Project Management Institute, and local city, state, and county government offices) provide standardized guidelines with specific metrics requirements to ensure successful implementation. However, most of those metrics are substantiated or validated in their effectiveness. The study examined the impact between these industry-recognized critical metrics and three distinct scheduling characteristics: Project Type, Project Duration, and Project Density (number of activities within a schedule). The research results showed that, among the 12 various schedules evaluated in parallel with 20 industry-recognized critical metrics, seven metrics substantially demonstrate a significant impact on a project schedule's success. Furthermore, six of the seven metrics directly correlate to at least one of the three scheduling characteristics outlined. As a result, this research has established more predictable outcomes based on impacts between three distinct project characteristics and 20 of the most discussed/researched critical scheduling metrics in the field. This allows management teams to have more confidence in establishing critical milestones and accurate turnover dates from the start of the project through its final completion.

  • We introduce a novel high-level security metrics objective taxonomization model for software- intensive systems. The model systematizes and organizes security metrics development activities. It focuses on the security level and security performance of technical systems while taking into account the alignment of metrics objectives with different business and other management goals. The model emphasizes the roles of security-enforcing mechanisms, the overall security quality of the system under investigation, and secure system lifecycle, project and business management. Security correctness, effectiveness and efficiency are seen as the fundamental measurement objectives, determining the directions for more detailed security metrics development. Integration of the proposed model with riskdriven security metrics development approaches is also discussed.

  • Object-oriented databases (OODBs) have been adopted for managing non-standard applications such as computer-aided design (CAD), office document management and many multimedia applications. One of the major characteristics of OODBs is class hierarchy where a subclass is allowed to inherit the definitions defined on its superclasses. In this paper, I present the evaluation metrics for class hierarchy quality in OODBs. These metrics are developed to determine if a concurrency control scheme can achieve good performance or not on a given class hierarchy. I first discuss the existing concurrency control schemes for OODBs. Then I provide evaluation metrics based on structural information and access frequency information in class hierarchies. In order to discuss significance of the proposed performance metrics, an analytical model is developed. Analysis results show that the performance metrics are important factor in concurrency control performance. I consider both single inheritance and multiple inheritance. The proposed metrics can be used to provide guidelines on how to design class hierarchy of an OODB for maximizing the performance of concurrency control technique.

  • Design metrics that quantify the design phase play an important role in reducing system development cost because the problems in early phases of software development seriously affected the quality of the late products. Real-time systems such as telecommunication systems are so large that design quantification is more important in real-time system design. Although many metrics have been proposed, few of them are correctly validated. This paper revises the SDL metrics set proposed in earlier study [9] and perform an analytical validation o the metrics set. Axiomatic approach and dimensional analysis are used for metrics validation and the old metrics are revised ot satisfy the validation criteria.

  • The aim of this paper is to prove the boundary behavior between the Caratheodory and Kobayashi-Royden metrics in a strongly pseudoconvex bounded domain with $C^2$-boundary in $\mathbb{C}^n$ and to show that the converse does not holds. S. Venturini([Ven]) proved the corresponding result with distances in place of the infinitesimal metrics.

  • In this paper, considering the class of complex Kropina metrics we obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions that these are generalized Berwald and complex Douglas metrics, respectively. Special attention is devoted to a class of complex Douglas-Kropina spaces, in complex dimension 2. Also, some examples of complex Douglas-Kropina metrics are pointed out. Finally, the complex Douglas-Kropina metrics are characterized through the theory of projectively related complex Finsler metrics.

  • Nowadays software developers are moving from conventional software process technologies to the object-oriented paradigm. To develope the object-oriented softwares efficiently, various software metrics have been suggested. Coupling refers to the degree of independence between components of the system. It has long been well known that good software practice calls for minimizing coupling interaction. Many researches have been studied coupling metrics of the object- oriented systems. We review Chidamber and Kemerer's work & Li's work. In this paper, we study the coupling of the overall structures of object-oriented systems by analyzing the class diagram of UML. We propose four coupling metrics for object-oriented softwares. First, we use an established coupling metric for object- oriented systems as a basic coupling metric. Then we modify the basic coupling metric by including indirect coupling between classes, We also suggest two relative coupling metrics to measure coupling between subsystems. We investigate the theoretical soundness of the proposed metrics by the axioms of Briand et al. Finally, we apply the presented metrics to a practical case study. This coupling metric will be helpful to the software developers for their designing tasks by evaluating the coupling metric of the structures of object-oriented system and redesigning tasks of the system.

  • Performance management is very popular in business area and seems to be an exciting topic. Despite significant research efforts and myriads of performance metrics, performance management today as a rigorous approach is still in an immature state and metrics are often selected based on intuitive and heuristic approach. In a R&D sector, the difficulty to select the proper performance metrics is even more increasing due to the natural characteristics of R&D such as unique or domain-specific problems. In this paper, we present a way of presenting R&D performance framework using ontology language. Based on this, the specific metrics can be derived by reusing or inheriting the context in the framework. The proposed ontological framework is formalized using OWL(Ontology Web Language) and metrics selection rules satisfying the characteristics of R&D are represented in SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language). Actual metrics selection procedure is carried out using JESS rule engine, a plug-in to Prot$\acute{e}$g$\acute{e}$, and illustrated with an example, incorporating a prevalent R&D performance model : TVP(Technology Value Pyramid).
