  • This study is a metaverse platform design study to support indie musicians' performances in a virtual environment. Interest in indie music has increased, but the number of accessible platforms has decreased after COVID-19. As a result of a survey of low-budget indie musicians, many people found it difficult to perform on stage due to lack of money and time. As the metaverse, which enables new social and economic activities, emerges, this study sought to contribute to resolving these difficulties by developing a prototype of a platform that allows performances in a metaverse environment beyond the existing stage environment. We conducted a prototype test of the platform developed for indie musicians and discovered the potential of a metaverse virtual space for indie musicians.

  • During the pandemic, social distancing continued for a long period of time, and as a result, this situation raised the possibility of the online space as a place for serious social relationships. In particular, metaverse platforms are adding to the reality of virtual space by expanding their functions so that users can provide various online events and have a variety of new experiences. This study attempted to examine the social relationship between reality and the metaverse according to social inclinations and behavior patterns. As a result of this study, the group with a high sense of inferiority in their usual relationship and the group with low satisfaction with their usual social interaction felt high discomfort at a similar level in both real and metaverse relationships. The group with the opposite inclination felt more uncomfortable in the metaverse relationship than in reality. In addition, whether the behavior patterns in the metaverse and in reality were different or same did not significantly affect the difference in attidudes between the metaverse and reality. In the case of group with different behavior patterns, however, if they were satisfied with how they look in the metaverse, their intimacy with social relationships was also high. This results implicate that we need to make an special effort for the development of social relationships in the metaverse era.

  • This study classified sensory affordances, functional affordances, and perceptual affordances, and verified their effects on consumers' participation and intention to stay in the metaverse. As a result of the study, sensory affordance, functional affordance, and perceptual affordance all had a positive effect on consumer participation, and sensory affordance had the greatest effect. In addition, consumer participation was found to increase the intention to stay. Service companies that provide metaverse platforms will have to pay more attention to realizing virtual space through various senses and physical elements when building a metaverse in order to encourage customers to actively participate in the service process. Since services based on the 4th industry, the participation of consumers needs to be more actively reviewed. From the perspective of affordance, it is expected that the realistic implementation of the metaverse environment and the interaction with various contents or avatars in the space will increase consumer participation.

  • This study investigates the preferences and purchase intentions of ZEPETO users regarding fashion brands that have recently joined ZEPETO, a leading metaverse platform in South Korea. The study surveyed 279 users in their 20s to 40s about their usage patterns, preferences, and purchase intentions toward products from brands like MCM, DKNY, Nike, and Puma. The results reveal that users in their 20s exhibited higher preference and purchase intention for Nike products, as well as greater purchase intention for Puma products. On the other hand, users in their 40s displayed a higher preference and purchase intention for MCM and DKNY products and a stronger preference for Puma products compared to other age groups. Users in their 30s showed a lower preference and purchase intention for both MCM and Puma products, a lower purchase intention for DKNY products, but a preference for Nike products compared to other age groups. Furthermore, men showed a higher preference and purchase intention for most brands, including MCM, Nike, and Puma. These results suggest that fashion brands on ZEPETO need to implement effective marketing strategies targeting users in their 20s and 40s, as well as male users. This study lays the groundwork for further research on the ZEPETO metaverse platform and provides foundational data for understanding user behavior, essential for establishing effective promotional strategies.

  • Recently, with interest in metaverse, attempts are being made to utilize the metaverse platform in various forms. In this paper, we focused on the educational application potential of metaverse, and developed and applied a metaverse STEAM program to provide an effective learning experience to learners in non-face-to-face educational situations. The developed program utilizes Minecraft and ZEPETO, familiar to students, as metaverse learning platforms, and consists of a total of 16 lessons of 5 modules in the form of modules so that alternative classes can take place in the educational field. Through this, the learner's change in STEAM attitude and learning satisfaction were measured, and through the developed STEAM program, the learner's interest, consideration, communication, usefulness, self-concept, self-efficacy, and career choice areas significantly increased. In addition, positive results were confirmed in all areas of the learner satisfaction test related to satisfaction, interest, and overall class. In the future, considering the characteristics of the metaverse, it is necessary to break free from the constraints of time and space to communicate anew, and various learner-centered educational approaches based on a high degree of freedom and immersion should be implemented.

  • With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic situation, the attention on Metaverse has been soared throughout media and publications. Recently the entertainment industry is also changing to actively utilize the virtual world with artists working through Metaverse platforms. With the recent high interests on Metaverse, this study attempts to illuminate how the public perceives and accepts Metaverse experiences. While research on Metaverse has been mainly focused on specific technologies or technical objects, this study focuses on exploring how fans recognize and understand the concept of Metaverse through newly debuted idol group 'aespa', composing of 4 human members and 4 AI avatar members that integrate real and virtual world. For this, this study seeks to analyze the reaction and recognition of fans by exploring online community 'DC Inside'. As a result of analyzing the reactions of fans in the early days of aespa's debut, the perspectives of understanding AI members of aespa are categorized into three groups: first, the type of equating and accepting the real and the virtual world; second, the type of recognizing the real world and the virtual world separately and recognizing the virtual member as an avatar or concept, not a genuine member; and finally, a type of recognizing virtual worlds separately from reality. Based on these results, the implications that Metaverse contents may have in the entertainment industry are suggested.

  • In recent times, more fashion brands have been seeking ways to use metaverse platforms, in which users can actively participate, as their new brand touch-points. This study aims to compare the brand experiences of the fashion brand Gentle Monster's offline store and its equivalent metaverse store. By changing the order of offline and metaverse visits, two groups participated in the field study that allowed them to experience directly the offline and metaverse stores. As a result of the analysis, the following findings were discovered: (1) In the overall experiential response, the frequency of sensory modules responding to new information was much higher than that of feeling experiences; (2) Experiential responses were more active in the offline store where the subjects could touch and use products directly rather than in the metaverse; (3) Among the four types of theme space, the experiential response was the most frequent in the product space; (4) The first group that visited the metaverse store before the offline store showed a more active experience than the second group that visited the offline store first. Finally, the results of this study show that metaverse brand stores in virtual space not only provide differentiated experiences beyond the spatiotemporal constraints of real space but can also be used as a strategic tool to make offline store experiences more meaningful and rich.

  • In this study, the user experience was analyzed from the learner's point of view, focusing on the metaverse platform 'Spatial'. SUS(System Usability Scale) was used to evaluate the usability of the metaverse platform 'Spatial' in a college class, and the Magnitude estimation technique was used to evaluate the immersion and satisfaction with the class. In addition, a questionnaire survey was used to collect user experience opinions on the use of 'Spatial' as a teaching tool. Looking at the usability evaluation results of the 'Spatial' system, the students evaluated the usability, immersion, and satisfaction quite positively. Looking at the user experience of metaverse platform 'Spatial', it was found that students highly valued Metaverse as an educational tool that can provide a place for many people to gather and communicate even in a non-face-to-face space. Compared to other online platforms, metaverse has advantages in ease of use, interaction, immersion, and interest. In particular, in addition to keyboard, touch, and display, interaction using the five senses such as voice, motion, and gaze was recognized as a great advantage. On the other hand, it was found that high openness, freedom, and interest factors can both promote learning and inhibit learning. Nevertheless, it is judged that the metaverse platform 'Spatial' can be effectively applied in college classes because it enables various interactions between instructor and learner or between learner and learner.

  • The metaverse platform has been gaining popularity since the pandemic. It facilitates non-face-to-face interaction among creators, users, advertisers, various forms of organizations, and itself. Such interaction has brought light to the new forms of economy, which is called the "creator economy." By providing the virtual space, easy tools, and methods, the platform allows the creators to produce value for the users in the forms of virtual items, content, and experiences. At the same time, it provides audiences to the organizations that need attention. In the course, the platform and the creators generate revenue. Among the diverse revenue sources, this study focuses on revenue generated from advertising and studies how the revenue sharing between the platform and the creator is affected by the abilities of the metaverse platform. With an analysis of the analytical model, we show that if the platform has the ability to reduce advertising avoidance, it can reduce the revenue share of the creator without discouraging the creator from making the proper effort in content creation. Also, as the platform provides effective tools and methods for quality content creation, it can reduce the revenue share of the creator without damaging the creator's required motivation. The ability of the platform in increasing advertising effectiveness helps it to reduce the revenue share of the creator as well.
