Methods ; A study sample of 627 shipbuilding workers (446the new work organizational system and 181 the traditional system) were recruited for this study. A structured-questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics, job characteristics(work demand, decision latitude), and psychosocial distress. Results : The decision latitude was not significantly higher in the new work system compared to the traditional system. However, the job demand was significantly higher in the new work system than in the traditional system. The psychosocial distress was higher within the new work system than the traditional system, but no significant relationships were found. The proportion of increased strain was significantly greater with the new system than the traditional system. Conclusion : These results suggest that increases in the decision latitude did not sufficiently compensate for higher job strain or increased work intensity. If the increase in the decision latitude was temporary, with the typical job demand remaining high, such work can be still be considered to have a job strain Futureresearch should consider psychosocial distress and fatigue as importantproblems caused by new work organizational systems, and should be performed to assess their impact through out industry.

  • Psychiatry has progressed with neurobiological basis, providing individually tailored treatment, preventing mental illness, and managing public mental health. Foundational knowledge that may contribute to the development of psychiatry and neuroscience has been attained through continual national and international investment in research. However, this knowledge obtained from neurobiological research is not being applied to clinical practice proactively. This may be due to a lack of support for translational research connecting neuroscience with clinical practice, and a lack of development and availability of educational programs for clinical psychiatrists. To solve these problems, it is essential to support translational research conducted by clinicians and to establish an appropriate reward system. Considering the direction of progress in psychiatry and the demand from clinicians, appropriate investment in research and education programs that provide neurobiological knowledge applicable to clinical practice is required. Researchers and educators must also communicate and collaborate to deliver neurobiological findings effectively.

  • This study aimed to examine how the horticultural therapy that was originated in the US has influenced South Korea and Japan and developed in the two countries as an interim check to promote qualitative growth of horticultural therapy with the growing social attention. It also aimed to look into the background of how horticultural therapy was introduced in Japan (which introduced horticultural therapy around the same time as Korea), and the process of the introduction, and compare them with those of Korea in order to set the direction for horticultural therapy. Data was collected to prepare the chronological table of horticultural therapy in Korea and Japan and investigate the flow. Interviews were conducted with the professors who first opened a horticultural therapy course in university so as to determine the introduction background. The analysis results are summarized as follows: Horticultural therapy was created to give mental comfort and emotional purification to those concerned with horticulture that had concerns over social phenomena. In Korea, there had been a process of finding a way of getting mental comfort and emotional purification in the economic slowdown in the late 1990s. Since 2001, there have been more attention and demand for horticultural therapy. As a result, there has been a tendency of studying general horticultural welfare activities and professional horticultural therapy separately. In Japan, the environmental pollution that has arisen since 1970s led to a concern over social orientation in the relation between plants and humans. The academic conference of global researchers to establish the horticultural therapy studies influenced the introduction of horticultural therapy in Korea and Japan. Both countries had no operations and system, and developed them independently. They had similar directions to seek, such as the department of horticultural therapy, need for professional education, active introduction of hospital practice (internship), and security of operating budget. Horticultural therapy has many competencies and thus requires constant research and expansion.

Nevertheless, a number of unsatisfactory elements that do not meet the demand of residents for residential environment have continuously caused them to be exposed to stress. The purpose of this study is to explore the importance of residential environment by examining stress factors from the residential environment and finding out the effects of the residential environment stress on human emotional intelligence quotient and its application pattern. This study was carried out using not only self-report questionnaires with the Likert 5-point scale to find out the origin of residential environment stress factors, but the emotional intelligence quotient measuring device developed by Wong & Low (2000) to analyse correlations between the residential environment stress and emotional intelligence quotient. The questionnaire survey in this study was carried our among students of D College, and data were analysed using the statistical program SPSS, version 14.0.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the health status of South Korea with those of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries and examine the trends. Position vAlue for Relative Comparison (PARC) was used as a gauge for comparison, and five sectors of the health care system were measured: demand, supply, accessibility, quality, and cost. The Mann-Kendall test was used as a statistical analysis method to examine trend of PARC values obtained from 2000 to recent years. According to the results, the demand, supply, accessibility, and quality sectors were higher than the OECD average, while the cost was lower than the average. However, there is a recent trend of sharp increases in health care costs. Some indicators: health employment, quality of primary care and mental health care were lower than the OECD average, and health determinants showed a worsening trend. Therefore, policy-makers need to take this into account and make efforts for sustainable health care.
