A Study on the Computational Design and Analysis of a Die Bonder for LED Chip Fabrication (LED칩 제조용 다이 본더의 전산 설계 및 해석에 대한 연구)

  • In LED chip packaging, die bonding is a very important process which fixes the LED chip on the lead frame to provide enough strength for the next process. Conventional pick-up device of the die bonder is simply operated by up and down motion of a collet and an ejector pin. However, this method may cause undesired problems such as position misalignment and/or severe die damage when the pick-up device reaches the die. In this study, to minimize the position alignment error and die damage, a die bonder is developed by adopting a new pick-up head for precise alignment and high speed feeding. To evaluate structural stability of the designed system, required finite element model of the die bonder is generated, and structural analysis is performed. Vibration analysis of the pick-up head is also performed using developed finite element model at operation frequency range. As a result of the analysis, deformation, stress, and natural frequency of the die bonder are investigated.

  • We propose a capture mechanism based on the principles of fishing nets that can be mounted on the drone using cable. The gripper mechanism, mainly proposed for the drone is heavy, and is limited to catch standardized objects. In contrast, the proposed capture device in this paper is light, flexible, and can capture various types of objects from a long distance. The theoretical relationships between cables and mechanisms were analyzed. Finally, the capture device was designed and manufactured to be installed in the drone (DJI S900) to conduct capturing experiments for various objects and verify the validity.

  • Composite materials have been widely applied for fabricating pressure vessels used for storing gaseous and liquid fuel because of their high specific stiffness and specific strength. Accordingly, the accurate measurement of their mechanical property, particularly the burst pressure or fracture strain, is essential prior to the commercial release. However, verification of the safety of composite pressure vessels using conventional test methods poses some limitations because it may lead to the deformation of the load transferring media or provoke an additional energy loss that cannot be ignored. Therefore, in this study, the segment-type ring burst test device was designed considering the theoretical load transferring ratio and applicable displacement of the vertical column. Moreover, to verifying the uniform distribution of pressure of the segment type ring burst test device, the hoop stress and strain distribution of ring specimens were compared with that of the hydraulic pressure test method via FEM. To conduct a simulation of the fracture behavior of the composite pressure vessel, a Hashin failure criterion was applied to the ring specimen. Furthermore, the fracture strain was also measured from the experiment and compared with that of the result from the FEM.

Development of PDMS-based Drag Force-type Flowmeter with Graphite-CNT Composite as Piezoresistive Material (흑연과 CNT 복합체를 압저항체로 하는 PDMS 기반의 바람저항형 유속센서 개발)

  • In this study, a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based drag force-type flowmeter was fabricated using a graphite-carbon nanotube (CNT) composite as a piezoresistive material and evaluated. The device was in the form of a cantilever, which was composed of the soft material, PDMS, and fabricated using a mold manufactured by a three-dimensional printer. The cost-effective graphite was mixed with CNTs to serve as a piezoresistive material. The optimal mixing ratio was investigated, and the piezoresistive material formed using a graphite:PDMS:CNT ratio of 1.5:1:0.01 was adopted, which showed a stable output and a high sensitivity. Various forward and backward air flows in the range of 0-10 m/s were measured using the fabricated flowmeter, and both tensile and compression characteristics were evaluated. The measured results showed a stable output, with the resistance change gradually increasing with the air flow rate. Repeatability characteristics were also tested at a repeated air flow of 10 m/s, and the flowmeter responded to the applied air flow well. Consequently, the fabricated device has a high sensitivity and can be used as a flowmeter.

  • Global effort has resulted in tremendous progress with energy harvesters that extract mechanical energy from ambient sources, convert it to electrical energy, and use it for systems such as wrist watches, mobile electronic devices, wireless sensor nodes, health monitoring, and biosensors. However, harvesting a single energy source only still pauses a great challenge in driving sustainable and maintenance-free monitoring and sensing devices. Over the last few years, research on high-performance mechanical energy harvesters at the micro and nanoscale has been directed toward the development of hybrid devices that either aim to harvest mechanical energy in addition to other types of energies simultaneously or to exploit multiple mechanisms to more effectively harvest mechanical energy. Herein, we appraise the rational designs for multiple energy harvesting, specifically state-of-the-art hybrid mechanical energy harvesters that employ multiple piezoelectric and triboelectric mechanisms to efficiently harvest mechanical energy. We identify the critical material parameters and device design criteria that lead to high-performance hybrid mechanical energy harvesters. Finally, we address the future perspectives and remaining challenges in the field.

  • In the drug delivery system industry, the technology with even split injection becomes important for maximizing efficiency and minimizing the side effects. In conventional drug delivery system, infection can occur due to pain and splashing. Also, various applications are impossible due to disposable use, and it is the reason to avoid to use this system because of the complexity of the driving method. Therefore, in this study, a painless drug delivery device is developed for non-pain with electrical insulation breakdown method. Finite elements analysis was used to evaluate the ejection characteristics of drugs according to the shape of the micro ejection nozzle. The effect of the number of holes in the micro nozzle, the length of the nozzle and the inner shape of the nozzle on the drug discharge characteristics were analyzed.

  • Lithium Niobate (LN:LiNbO3) is a compound of niobium, lithium and oxygen. The characteristics of LN are piezoelectricity, ferroelectricity and photoelectricity, and which is widely used in surface acoustic wave (SAW). To manufacture LN device, the LN surface should be a smooth surface and defect-free because of optical property, but the LN material is processed difficult by traditional processes such as grinding and mechanical polishing (MP) because of its brittleness. To decrease defects, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) was applied to the LN wafer. In this study, the suitable parameters scuh as pressure and relative velocity, were investigated for the LN CMP process. To improve roughness, the LN CMP was performed using the parameters that were the highest removal rate among process parameters. And, evaluation of optical property was performed by the optical reflectance and non-linear characteristic.

  • In general, auto parts production assembly line is assembled and produced by automatic mounting by an automated robot. In such a production site, quality problems such as misalignment of parts (doors, trunks, roofs, etc.) to be assembled with the vehicle body or collision between assembly robots and components are often caused. In order to solve such a problem, the quality of parts is manually inspected by using mechanical jig devices outside the automated production line. Automotive inspection technology is the most commonly used field of vision, which includes surface inspection such as mounting hole spacing and defect detection, body panel dents and bends. It is used for guiding, providing location information to the robot controller to adjust the robot's path to improve process productivity and manufacturing flexibility. The most difficult weighing and measuring technology is to calibrate the surface analysis and position and characteristics between parts by storing images of the part to be measured that enters the camera's field of view mounted on the side or top of the part. The problem of the machine vision device applied to the automobile production line is that the lighting conditions inside the factory are severely changed due to various weather changes such as morning-evening, rainy days and sunny days through the exterior window of the assembly production plant. In addition, since the material of the vehicle body parts is a steel sheet, the reflection of light is very severe, which causes a problem in that the quality of the captured image is greatly changed even with a small light change. In this study, the distance between the car body and the door part and the door are acquired by the measuring device combining the laser slit light source and the LED pattern light source. The result is transferred to the joint robot for assembling parts at the optimum position between parts, and the assembly is done at the optimal position by changing the angle and step.
