  • This paper proposes a probability measure for the evaluation of relay performance from two aspects, namely, correct trip and no-unwanted trip. They are developed based on the relationship between relay settings and relay measurements, which follow a Gaussian probability model. The proposed method based on strict mathematical derivation is applied to protection capability evaluation of distance relays under various settings. Considering the specific attributes of each protection zone, the optimal settings are also determined accordingly. The protection capability could demonstrate clearly the relay performance under various settings and the optimal settings could provide good references for engineering applications.

  • This study is underway to develop a prediction model for formwork pressure exerted by self-compacting concrete(SCC). Three major mechanisms related to formwork evolution over time were found, and mathematical modelling of each mechanism was made. A calculation method for real formwork pressure by using the mathematical formulae was also established. To verify predictive capability of the prediction model, a parametric study on parameters used in the model was performed. It was confirmed that the proposed model include the essential parameters that can simulate the real formwork pressure evolution over time.

  • Education for the future society should emphasize the experience of sharing, coexisting, and solving problems in cooperation with each other in the community. Accordingly, in addition to the problem-solving capability, which is the ultimate goal of mathematics education, it is necessary to strengthen the capability to solve unstructured problems through collaboration. This study attempted to suggest that solving complex problems through collaboration is used in school classes or gifted education by introducing polymath that solves problems using collective intelligence. Accordingly, a target problem was set and an example of polymath in which community members exert each other's intelligence to solve the problem. In addition, by investigating the perceptions of students who have experienced polymath, positive aspects and improvements of polymath were suggested. Through this, this study can contribute to revitalization of mathematics teaching and learning methods using collective intelligence.

  • In the 21st century, knowledge-based and information-based society requires not just the capability of applying mathematics simply but mathematical power such as problem-solving ability which composes and solves problems using mathematical knowledge in real-life and fields of various subjects. However, to develop mathematical power, we need various teaching and learning methods which raise basic mathematical knowledge, the inference capability, problem- solving ability, the flexibility of thinking, the expressing and transforming ability of mathematical ideas, perseverance, interest, intellectual curiosity, and creativity. In this paper, we develop the teaching-learning plans based on real life using the various methods of learning and then we analyze the change of students's cognition of mathematics and the students's reaction of the class.

  • A dynamic back-propagation neural network is addressed for adaptive neural control system to approximate non-linear control system rather than static networks. It has the capability to represent the approximation of nonlinear system without mathematical analysis and to carry out the on-line learning algorithm for real time application. The simulated results show fast tracking capability and adaptive response by using dynamic back-propagation neurons.

  • Let $G{\otimes}G$ be the tensor square of a group G. The set of all elements a in G such that $a{\otimes}g\;=\;1_{\otimes}$, for all g in G, is called the tensor centre of G and denoted by $Z^{\otimes}^$(G). In this paper some properties of the tensor centre of G are obtained and the capability of the pair of groups (G, G') is determined. Finally, the structure of $J_2$(G) will be described, where $J_2$(G) is the kernel of the map $\kappa$ : $G{\otimes}\;{\rightarrow}\;G'$.

  • This study aimed to understand the needs of changes in the teaching-learning environment in the university and to develop the liberal art subject of mathematics. The changes of mathematical belief in the university students were investigated to understand how the liberal art subject of mathematics affected them related to mathematics. Upon the study results, the significant changes were occurred from the utility factor on the subject of mathematics in mathematical belief, the importance factor of the answers in the teaching-learning belief, teaching activity factor of the teachers, and inborn capability factor in the belief on the self-concept. The meaningful learning environment and teaching method for the liberal art subject of mathematics are suggested further by these results.

  • In this paper, we investigate a localized approximation of a continuously differentiable function by neural networks. To do this, we first approximate a continuously differentiable function by B-spline functions and then approximate B-spline functions by neural networks. Our proofs are constructive and we give numerical results to support our theory.

  • In this paper, a mathematical model of learning curve is proposed to study the finger's reaction time. The model is a logarithmic linear type which represents a learning curve appropriately, and parameters are estimated by the linear. The learning coefficient and percentage of a reaction time can be easily computed in the mathematical model. This quantitative approach provides an important information to be used for the working capability qualification for re-employment as well as for the adaptability estimation of aged workers.

  • Recently SLAMECKA suggested the mathematical dynamic arc model of the SF6 gas circuit breaker [1]. The author applied the above dynamic arc model to the E.H.V. transmission line and investigated the interrupting capability of the SF6 gas circuit breaker. In particular the Runge-Kutta-England numerical method suitable for the use in systems that involve nonlinear dynamic arc and traveling wave was used by converting the current source into the voltage source in the DOMMEL's method [2]. The successful computer resultls were obtained and it was found that the arc time constant and the second derivative of the arc conductance are closely related to the interrupting capability of the SF6 gas circuit breaker.
