문제해결 과정에서 메타인지적 활동 안내를 통한 고등학생의 메타인지 능력 활성화 가능성 탐색 (A case study on activating of high school student's metacognitive abilities in mathematical problem solving process using guidance material for metacognitive activities)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate a new method for activating the metacognitive abilities that play a key role in the Mathematical Problem Solving Process (MPSP). The proposed research question is as follows: Can the MPSP activate metacognitive abilities of high school students in the pencil-and-paper environment using guidance material for metacognitive activities\ulcorner To solve this question, two case studies have been carried out. Two students for the study were selected via informal interview. They voluntarily took part in 13 experimental lectures. The activating paths of their metacognitive abilities in the MPSP were chronically described and analyzed. All the activating processes of the students focusing on the aspects of metacognitive behaviors were analyzed by means of interview, observation, self-report, and activity data. The two high school students participating in the MPSP voluntarily recognized and reflected their deficiencies in metacognitive abilities, and therefore maximized their own performance. They made quite significant progress in the course of activating their metacognitive abilities through voluntary participation and gained greater confidence in the MPSP. Hence they have become good problem solvers. They expressed not only the factors influencing their behavior but also their self-awareness during the metacognitive activities. In the long run, this experiment will increase possibilities for the internalization of the metacognitive process.

'얼음' 프로젝트가 유아의 과학적 능력, 수학적 능력, 창의성에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of 'Ice' Project Activities on Young Children's Scientific Abilities, Mathematical Abilities, and Creativity)

  • Objective: The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of an 'Ice' project, a topic chosen based on children's interests to discover the improvement of scientific and mathematical abilities, and creativity of four-year-old children. Methods: For this research, 34 four-year-old children from M childcare center were selected. Seventeen children were placed in the experimental group and the remaining 17 children were placed in the comparison group. After the project was completed, to observe the differences between the two groups, the Mann-Whitney U test was conducted. Results: First, the 'Ice' project had an effect on improving children's scientific abilities and its subfactors. Second, the 'Ice' project hadsignificant effects on improving children's algebraic and geometric mathematical skills. Third, excluding the resistance to premature closure among the subfactors of creativity, the 'Ice' project contributed to improve children's creativity and all sub-factors. Conclusion/Implications: The 'Ice' project activities, a subject chosen from the interests of children, led active play participation from children and brought positive effects in immersion of play and activity. Such effects proved to affect children's scientific abilities, mathematical abilities, and creativity, and suggest this research can be used as base line data in follow-up research on various project activities.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 아동들의 수학적 의사소통 능력 중 말하기 능력과 쓰기 능력에 대해서 심도 깊게 알아보고, 말하기 능력과 쓰기 능력에서 어떤 차이점이 있는지를 조사하는 것이다. 3명의 5학년 아동들이 본 연구에 참여하였고 도형 영역에서 그들의 말하기 능력과 쓰기 능력이 분석되었다. 아동들은 자신이 알고 있는 수학적 개념이나 문제 해결 과정을 말 또는 글로 설명하기 위해서 적절한 수학적 언어를 선택하여 사용하는데 어려움을 나타내고 있었다. 본 연구에 참여한 아동들의 경우에는 말하기 능력이 쓰기 능력보다 좋은 것으로 나타났다.

현직수학교사와 예비수학교사들의 좋은 수학 수업을 위한 지식 및 능력에 관한 인식조사 (The perspectives on the knowledge and abilities for good mathematics teaching of in-service and pre-service mathematics teachers)

  • Mathematics teachers' knowledge and abilities for effective mathematics teaching has been discussed by many mathematics educators and researchers. This study surveyed the perspectives on the knowledge and abilities for good mathematics teaching of inservice and preservice teachers based on their teaching experiences. The perspectives of the two teacher groups about teachers' knowledge and abilities for teaching mathematics are very different. The results from this study are expected to give information on developing teacher education curriculum and programs.

  • Mathematics education is generally to cultivate mathematical thought. Most meaningful thought is to solve a certain given situation, that is, a problem. The aim of mathematies education could be identified with the cultivation of mathematical problem-solving ability. To cultivate mathematical problem-solving ability, it is necessary to study the nature of mathematical ability and its aspects pertaining to problem-solving ability. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between problem-solving ability and classficational viewpoint of mathematical verbal problems, and bet ween the detailed abilities of problem-solving procedure and classificational viewpoint of mathematical verbal problems. With the intention of doing this work, two tests were given to the third-year students of middle school, one is problem-solving test and the other classificational viewpoint test. The results of these two tests are follow ing. 1. The detailed abilities of problem-solving procedure are correlated with each other: such as ability of understanding, execution and looking-back. 2. From the viewpoint of structure and context, students classified mathematical verbal problems. 3. The students who are proficient at problem-solving, understanding, execution, and looking-back have a tendency to classify mathematical verbal problems from a structural viewpoint, while the students who are not proficient at the above four abilities have a tendency to classify mathematical verbal problems from a contextual viewpoint. As the above results, following conclusions can be made. 1. The students have recognized at least two fundamental dimensions of structure and context when they classified mathematical verbal problems. 2. The abilities of understanding, execution, and looking- back effect problem-solving ability correlating with each other. 3. The instruction emphasizing the importance of the structure of mathematical problems could be one of the methods cultivating student's problem-solving ability.

Developing Mathematical Promise and Creativity

  • In today's world, it is not enough to be proficient at computation or at memorizing rote procedures to solve routine problems. These skills are important, but even more important are the abilities to recognize and define problems, generate multiple solutions or paths toward solution, reason, justify conclusions, and communicate results. These are not abilities that one is born with and they do not generally develop on their own. For students to become gifted, promising, and creative mathematicians, these talents must be cultivated and nurtured.

문제해결에서 생산적 실패의 경험이 초등학생의 수학적 문제해결력 및 수학적 성향에 미치는 영향 (The Influences of Experiences of Productive Failures on Mathematical Problem Solving Abilities and Mathematical Dispositions)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 수학 수업에서 생산적 실패를 한 경험이 초등학생들의 수학적 문제해결력과 수학적 성향에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위해 선행 연구를 바탕으로 생산적 실패를 경험할 수 있도록 수업 과정을 고안하였다. 연구대상으로 서울 은평구 Y초등학교 4학년 2개 학급을 선정하여 실험반은 생산적 실패를 활용한 수업을 진행하였으며, 비교반은 전통적인 강의식 수업을 진행하였다. 사전 사후 검사로 수학 개념이해 검사, 다양한 수학적 문제해결력 검사, 수학적 성향 검사를 실시하여 각각 t-검정하였으며, 학생들의 토의과정 및 활동지, 면담 등을 활용하여 수학적 문제해결력과 성향을 질적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 생산적 실패를 경험한 학생들의 문제해결력과 수학적 성향에 유의미하게 개선되는 효과를 보였다. 이는 학생들이 실패를 통해 수학 개념을 스스로 구성하면서 보다 명확한 이해를 하는 과정에서 긍정적인 효과를 가져 온 것으로 보인다. 심층적인 추후 연구로 수학교과서 개발 및 수업 방법 개선에서 이를 활용해야 함을 제안하였다.

대학 신입생의 수학 기초실력 분석 (University Freshmen's Basic Mathematical Abilities)

  • We made an investigation into basic mathematical abilities and made university freshmen an object of this study in order to find out the reason why their capabilities are remarkably behind in studies year by year. According to the survey, we confirmed that recent university freshmen's basic abilities to attend calculus class, right away after entering university, are insufficient for that class. In particular, a matter of grave concern is that score variations are so big despite the equal major of the same university. The aim of the study is to evaluate university freshmen's basic mathematical abilities in nationwide university and to figure out the real situation, then to give assistance to the proper calculus curriculum of university by reflecting the result in it. And also we wish to be helpful to propose proper policy plan in natural science system of highschool.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the first graders' mathematics learning abilities in elementary school. To do this, I examined the first graders on their mathematics learning abilities, and analyzed the test results. Although all of the evaluation factors are composed the mathematical contents which are taught in elementary school, the correct answer rate of them were very high. The results of this study will be used as the basis. for developing the mathematics curriculum and textbook in elementary school. Also first grade teachers can use the results of this study as a basis when they plan a instruction for the first graders.

수학적 재능에 대한 Krutetskii의 연구 분석

  • In this study we study Krutetskii and Krutetskii's monograph 'The Psychology of Mathematical Abilities in Schoolchidren' which is published in Russia(in Russian) and USA(in English). We describe Krutetskii's biography briefly, which was not published in Korea. We analyze the methods, procedures, and results which are presented in the Krutetskii' work, and systemize these. Our study will give a overview of Krutetskii' viewpoint about mathematical abilities.
