구취환자의 설태, 휘발성 황화합물, 타액분비율 및 타액내 secretory Immunoglobulin A에 대한 평가 (Evaluation on Tongue Coating, Volatile Sulfur Compounds, Salivary Flow Rate and Secretory Immunoglobulin A in Saliva in Patients with Oral Malodor)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to confirm the characteristics of oral malodor patients by evaluating the differences of salivary flow rate, secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) level in saliva between the patient and control groups, and the correlation with the tongue coating, volatile sulfur compound (VSC), salivary flow rate and sIgA level in saliva in the patients group. Methods : Forty-seven patients with oral malodor and twenty healthy volunteers were included in this study. Their tongue coating was assessed with the Winkel tongue coating index, and salivary flow rate, sIgA concentrations in saliva and the level of VSC in oral cavity were measured. Results : There were no significant differences of the salivary flow rate and the sIgA level in saliva between the patient and control groups, but there was a significant relationship between the accumulation of tongue coating and the level of VSC in oral cavity. Conclusions : Our results suggest that tongue coating is closely related to oral malodor, but further studies are needed to confirm the relationship between tongue coating and sIgA level in saliva.

환경호르몬 비스페놀 A가 유도한 위장관 세포독성 제어효과를 가진 마 당단백질이 마우스의 식이 효율 및 악취저감에 미치는 영향 (Dioscorea batatas Decne Glycoprotein Prevents Ecotoxicological Effects of Bisphenol A in Gastrointestinal Epithelial Cells and Improves Fecal Malodor and Feed Efficiency in Mice)

  • As a herbal supplement, Dioscorea batatas Decne (DBD) presents potent antioxidant activity and diverse health benefits. In the present study, functions of a 30 kDa glycoprotein isolated from DBD (hereafter, DBD glycoprotein) in the regulation of feed efficiency and fecal malodor in mice were explored. DBD glycoprotein produced protective effect against cytotoxicity induced by the ecotoxicological endocrine-disrupting substance bisphenol A in gastrointestinal epithelial HT-29 cells. To investigate its potential roles in the regulation of feed efficiency and fecal malodor, mice were administered an oral injection of DBD glycoprotein for 2 weeks. Compared with the control values, the weight of internal organs (liver, heart, kidney, and spleen) and levels of glutamate pyruvate transaminase, glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, and lactic dehydrogenase were not significantly changed during DBD glycoprotein administration for 2 weeks. Interestingly, DBD glycoprotein improved feed efficiency and reduced hydrogen sulfide concentration without altering the ammonia level in mouse feces. Collectively, these results indicate that DBD glycoprotein is a functional agent that exerts gastrointestinal protective effects against ecotoxicological substances, improves feed efficiency, and reduces fecal malodor.

아로마 함유 치약이 구취에 미치는 영향에 관한 임상적 연구 (A Clinical Study about Effectiveness of Essential Oil-Containing Dental Paste in Controlling Oral Malodor)

  • 구강 및 전신 질환이 없는 40명의 치과대학생 자원자를 대상으로 이중맹검법을 시행하여 tea tree, lemon, peppermint essential oil이 함유되어 있는 치약을 사용하게 한 후, 전치 절단면으로부터 3 cm 후방역 구취를 Halimeter를 이용하여 측정한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 아로마가 첨가된 치약은 구강 내 전반에 걸쳐 지속적인 구취감소효과를 보였다. 2. 아로마를 함유한 치약을 사용한 군에서는 전반적으로 치약 사용 후 2주와 3주에서 구취 증가자 수가 아로마를 함유하지 않은 치약을 사용한 군에 비해 적었다. 3. 구취 증가자의 증가율 평균은 대조군보다 낮았다. 4. 아로마를 함유한 치약을 사용한 군에서는 전반적으로 치약 사용 후 2주와 3주에서 구취 감소율이 대조군에 비해 꾸준히 높게 나타났다. 이상의 결과로, 본 연구에서 사용한 아로마가 함유된 치약은 구취 감소에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 구취제거에 효과가 있는 아로마를 사용하여 인체에 부작용이 없는 한계 내에서 치약뿐 만 아니라 구강세척제 등의 구강용품을 개발하여 임상에 적극적으로 사용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

  • This study investigated automatic malodor exhaust ventilating methods in a water closet system. Even though these days advanced equipment has been applied into the toilet in a building or house, the odor due to the evacuating the bowels should be carefully removed to maintain clean and pleasant toilet. Therefore, this study thoroughly considered the main causes of the malodor problems and suggested the best applicable methods to the closet system.

Clinical evaluation of cetylpyridinium chloride-containing mouthwash in halitosis

  • Halitosis is a very common disease that affects the majority of the population and is characterized by unpleasant odor during expiration. Anaerobic bacteria produce a range of malodorous substances including volatile sulfur compounds. To reduce oral malodor, the amount of oral microorganisms should be managed through brushing, scraping, and use of antibacterial agents. In this study, a mouthwash containing 0.05% cetylpyridinium chloride was tested on 22 candidates with oral malodor for two weeks to confirm oral malodor reduction through the use of antibacterial mouthwashes. Volatile sulfur compound measurements were significantly lower after using the mouthwash than before using it; thus, the mouthwash effectively reduced oral malodor.

양산시 산업단지에서 측정한 악취물질의 농도 분포 특성 및 대기확산 모델링 (Characteristics of Malodor Pollutants and Their Dispersion Measured in Several Industrial Source Regions in Yangsan)

  • In this study, the environmental behavior of malodor pollutants (MPs: $H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, and DMDS) was investigated around areas influenced by strong anthropogenic processes based on observations and modeling study (a CALPUFF dispersion model). The MP emission concentrations were measured from 8 industrial source regions (tire plants (S1-S3), waste water disposal plant (S4), and oil refinery (S5) in an urban center area and paper mill/incineration plant (S6) and livestock feedlots (S7-S8) in Ungsang area) in Yangsan city during a fall period in 2008 (21 October 2008). Overall, the most MPs emitted from the urban center area were found to affect the malodor pollution in their downwind areas during early morning (06:00 LST) and nighttime (18:00 and 21:00 LST), compared with those in the Ungsang area. For malodor intensity, the most MPs in the urban center area (especially S1 and S2) were found to be a significant contributor, whereas $CH_3SH$ and $H_2S$ in the Ungsnag area (especially S6) were the dominant contributor. The model study showed agreement in the spatial distributions of simulated MPs with those of the observations. The largest impact of MPs in the urban center area on the malodor pollution in its residential areas occurred at S1, S2, and S3 sites during nighttime, while that of MPs in the Ungsang area occurred at S6 and S8 sites. This may be caused mainly by the high MP emissions and in part by wind conditions (prevailing northeasterly winds with low wind speeds of 2-3 m/s).

  • Halitosis, defined as an unpleasant oral odor, is a commonly experienced condition with a variety of etiological factors and may cause a significant social or psychological handicap to those suffering from it, In most cases, halitosis originates within the oral cavity itself and patients with periodontal disease often suffer from oral malodor, The most common cause of this disease is related to microbiota which reside on the tongue and in the periodontal pocket, This study was undertaken to examine the effect of full mouth disinfection including tongue scraping on oral malodor in a group of patients with chronic periodontitis, The relationship between halitosis and oral health status was also investigated, The volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) scores were significantly correlated with Plaque Index, Bleeding Index, pocket depth, and tongue coating score, The organoleptic ratings were significantly associated with Plaque Index, Bleeding Index. and tongue coating score, The VSC scores and organoleptic ratings correlated strongly with each other. Full mouth disinfection resulted in a significant reduction in the VSC scores. organoleptic ratings, and self-perception of malodor up to 12 weeks, This study indicates that in patients with chronic periodontitis. a full mouth disinfection including tongue scraping has a significant effect in the treatment of oral malodor.

구강위생관리능력이 구취 자각증상에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Oral Hygiene Controllability on the Subjective Oral Malodor)

  • 경기도 남부지역 714명의 대학생들(459명의 치과관련 보건 계열 대학생들과 255명의 비보건계열 대학생들)을 대상으로 설문지를 이용한 역학조사를 통해 구강위생관리능력을 평가하고 이러한 구강위생관리능력이 구취의 자각증상에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 설태가 자주 끼는 군에서 구취를 심하게 느끼는 비율이 상대적으로 높았다. 2. 본 조사 대상자 중 스스로 구취를 느낀다고 응답한 자의 비율은 81.1%였다. 3. 칫솔질 소요시간이 짧은 군에서, 칫솔질 시기가 일정치 않은 군에서 구취를 심하게 느끼는 비율이 상대적으로 높았다. 4. 구취를 심하게 느끼는 군에서는 다른 군에 비해 상대적으로 혀솔질 하는 사람의 비율은 낮았다. 5. 칫솔질 지수와 구강위생 관리능력 지수가 낮은 군에서 구취를 심하게 느끼는 비율이 상대적으로 높았다. 6. 칫솔질 지수(p<.0001), 혀솔질 지수(p=0.0439), 구강위생 관리능력 지수(p<.0001) 모두에서 보건대생 평균치가 비보건대생 평균치보다 높았다. 이와 같은 소견을 종합해 볼 때 구강위생관리능력이 구취의 자각증상에 주요한 역할을 하는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 치과 관련 교육을 받은 보건대생의 구강위생 관리능력이 높은 것으로 보아 일반인을 대상으로 한 적절한 구강위생 유지 및 구취에 대한 올바른 교육과 적극적인 홍보가 필요하리라 본다.

잇솔질과 구취감소보조용품제가 구취감소효과에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Auxiliary Goods and Tooth Brushing for the Reduction of Oral Malodor)

  • 본 연구는 현재 서울에 소재하고 있는 S보건대학 치위생과 학생들을 대상으로 인위적인 구취를 발생시킨 후 실험 전, 양파즙 가글 직 후, 실험 5분, 실험 10분, 실험 20분, 실험 30분경과에 따른 구취도를 측정하였다. 실험대상을 잇솔질만 시행한 실험군 (실험군 A), 보조용품만 시행한 실험군 (실험군 B), 어떤 보조용품도 사용치 않은 상태에서의 경과시간에 따른 구취도를 측정한 실험군 (실험군 C)으로 분류하였다. 또한 보조용품군을 가글액 사용군, 껌 저작군, 현미녹차 섭취군, 혀솔질군 등으로 나누어 잇솔질을 대처할 수 있는 최적의 구강보조용품이 어떤 것인가에 대하여 연구하고자 하였다. 1. 실험군 A와 실험군 BG의 경과시간에 따른 구취도의 변화는 실험 30분 경과부터 유의한 차이를 보였다 (p < 0.05). 2. 실험군 A와 실험군 BC의 경과시간에 따른 구취도의 변화는 실험 20분 경과부터 유의한 차이를 보였다 (p < 0.05). 3. 실험군 A와 실험군 BT의 경과시간에 따른 구취도는 실험 20분 경과부터 유의한 차이를 보였다 (p < 0.05). 4. 실험군 A와 실험군 BO의 경과시간에 따른 구취도의 변화는 실험 전에서 실험 30분 경과까지 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다 (p > 0.05). 5. 실험군 C는 실험군 A, B,군에 비하여 아주 높은 수치를 보이며 실험 30분 경과까지 구취도가 감소하였다. 본 연구의 실험 결과 잇솔질을 시행하지 못한 경우 가그린, 껌 저작, 현미녹차섭취, 혀 긁겅이 중에서 가그린의 사용이 구취감소에 가장 효과적이였다.

항균작용을 가진 수종 한약재의 구취억제 효과 (Deodorizing Effect of Several Antibacterial Medicinal Herbs on Oral Malodor)

  • Objective: We investigated the oral malodor inhibitory effect of Scutellariae Radix (SR), Phellodendri Cortex (PC), Moutan Cortex (MTC) and Magnoliae Cortex (MGC) for the development of a gargle solution. Methods: 1. Against P. gingivalis and Pr. intermedia, the minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) and the change of viable cells that were exposed to 1% each herbal extract were observed. 2. Deodorizing activity of 2% herbal extract and Garglin $Mint^{(R)}$ against methyl mercaptan were evaluated by gas chromatography (GC). 3. We used the salivary sediment system (SSS) as the malodor model. 4. The clinical examination was repeated 3 times by 2 subjects by $Halimeter^{(R)}$. Baseline VSC of each subject was measured. Then, the control subject gargled with cysteine for 30 sec. After 4 min, subjects would gargle for 30 seconds with herbal extracts (2%) and Garglin $Mint^{(R)}$. Subsequently, the concentration of VSC was measured at 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 40 and 60 minutes. Results: 1. Against P. gingivalis, MBC of SR, PC and MTC was 0.1%, and MBC of MGC was 1%. Removal time of P. gingivalis was as follows; 5 hr in MGC, 24 hr in SR and PC, and 48 hr in MTC. Against Pr. intermedia, MBC of SR and PC was 0.5%, and MBC of MTC, MGC was 1%. Removal time of Pr. intermedia was as follows; 5 hr in MTC and 24 hr in SR, PC and MGC. 2. Deodorizing effect of herbal extracts against methyl mercaptan was as follows; MGC and MTC had 100%, SR had 82.22%, PC had 66.60%, Garglin $Mint^{(R)}$ had 40.54%. 3. In the experiment using SSS, PC and MTC had statistically significant malodor-inhibitory effects (p<.05). 4. In the clinical examination, PC and MGC had statistically significant inhibitory effects at every elapsed time compared to the control subject. MTC had that until 40 min. SR had that at 0, 4, 8, 20, and 60 min. Conclusions: SR, PC, MTC and MGC have an antibacterial effect and the chemical removable activity of the oral malodor caused by VSC. These four herbs could have potential as effective anti-malodor agents.
