The purpose of this study was to identify factors that influence school adjustment in male high school students. The participants were 569 male high school students (1th and 2nd grade) in A city. We analyzed quality of life, family strength, self-resilience, and school adjustment of subjects. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the SAS program. The result of this study was that school adjustment was significantly different by school achievement, financial abilities, job of father, scholarship of mother, smoking and drinking alcohol, suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. The school achievement, suicidal ideation, and other quality of life, family strength, self-residence explained 61.4% of school adjustment. Based on the results, if we develop the program which focusing on quality of life, family strength, self-resilience, we could make a meaningful improvement of school adjustment of high school student.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the current status of contraception use and analyze factors affecting contraception use among Korean adolescents. Methods: This cross sectional study used secondary data from the 2013 Adolescent Health Behavior Online Survey (KYRBS), which included a nationally representative sample of middle and high school students. A total of 3,475 adolescents who had experienced sexual intercourse were included in the study. Results: Almost 4.8% of total adolescents experienced sexual intercourse. Only 26.8% of them had sex with contraception. The significant predictors related to contraception use were as follows: sexual intercourse experience after drinking (OR=2.02) and living with mother (OR=3.00) for male middle school student, first intercourse experience (OR=2.04) for female middle school students, and first intercourse experience (OR=1.59) and intercourse experience after drinking (OR=0.56) for male high school students. On the other hand, there were no predictors for female high school students. Conclusions: Development and application of effective strategies according to gender and school level are needed to increase contraception rate of adolescents.
This study investigates Korean high school student's perception of sexual harassment and relative effects of victim's clothing, dating behavior and respondent's gender on perceptions of alleged sexual harassment cases. A quasi-experimental method was applied using a $2{\times}2{\times}2$ between-subjects factorial design that manipulated three variables (clothing exposure, dating behavior, and gender). Questionnaires were distributed to a convenience sample of 540 high school students and 530 questionnaires were used for the data analysis. The results indicate that the victim's clothing and dating behavior had a significant main effect on the responsibility for sexual harassment. The respondent put less responsibility on the assailant when the victim wore revealing clothing and when her dating behavior was provocative. The significant interaction effect between the respondents' gender and the victim's dating behavior indicated that when the victim's behavior was provocative, female respondents held more responsible to victim than male respondents did. The results also indicate that victim's clothing, dating behavior, and respondent's gender had significant main effect on the justification of sexual harassment. The respondents indicated that assailant's behavior is unjustifiable; however, when victim more revealing clothing, they indicated that the behavior is more justifiable.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the foot shape and size specification of male high school students. 3D modeling programs such as 'Artec Studio', 'CATIA', and 'Auto CAD' measured the 3D scan data of 361 male high school students provided by KATS. Through principal factor analysis, 10 factors were extracted, including foot length, medial-lateral ratio, and foot length ratio. As the result of the cluster and ANOVA with post-hoc test (Duncan method), the differences among types were clarified. Type 1 (24.7%) represented outward medial-lateral ratio (M-L ratio) with the lowest instep, ankle and little deformed first toe. Type 2 (41.8%) was characterized by the shortest, even M-L ratio, thin ankle and heel, the highest instep and ankle. Type 3 (33.5%) showed the longest, inward M-L ratio, thick ankle and heel, and deformed first toe. As the cross-tabulation of foot length and ball circumference, 17.2 percent was not covered by KS standard; in addition, the foot length was longer than the KS standard. The correlation analysis of key dimensions showed that foot length and ball circumference were highly correlated with other items; therefore, regression equations were derived to estimate other foot measurements using these two items as independent variables.
This study analyzed the influence of smartphone addiction on adaptation to school life by using the questionnaire survey method of 431 students of radiological science in six regions. The results showed that 89.6% of students are the general user group, 6.3% the high risk group and 4.2% the potential risk group. Adaptability to school life was found to be social adaptability 3.71, righteous adaptability 3.17 and academic adaptability 2.95. Academic adaptability was 3.06 for male students and 2.79 for female students. And righteous adaptability was 3.26 for male students and 3.03 for female students. As a result, male students were more adaptable than female students in academic adaptability and righteous adaptability, which was statistically significant. And Social adaptability was 3.73 for female students and 3.68 for male students, but there was no significant difference(p<.001). Adaptability to school life by smartphone addiction level was found to be the general user group 3.19, the potential risk group 3.05 and the high risk group 2.81. The difference of righteous adaptability between the general user group and the high risk group was statistically significant. And social and academic adaptability of the general user group and the high risk group was no significant(p<.01).
This study was to examine the mediating role of high school students' teacher justice experience and their emotional relationship with teachers in the links between belief in a just world and school engagements, along with gender differences. The participants were 383 high school students in Seoul, Korea. The results showed that the more the students believed in a just world, the more they engaged in school life. In addition, the effect of belief in a just world on teacher-student relationship was fully mediated by teacher justice experience, and teacher-student relationship also mediated association between teacher justice experience and school engagement. In particular, for female students(N=213), the belief in a just world had both direct and indirect effect on school engagement mediated by students' experience of teacher justice and their relationship with teachers in order. On the other hand, for male students(N=168), the influence of belief in a just world on school engagement was fully mediated by teacher justice experience and teacher-student relationship in sequence. The results that belief in a just world had different path to school engagement by gender could be helpful to understand beneficial effect of belief in a just world in educational context.
For the purpose of developing 'Web-Based Nutritional Education Program', this study analyzed nutritional problems of junior/senior high school students and set appropriate instructional goals for nutritional education program. Survey questionnaires were distributed from October 21,2002 to October 26, 2002 to a total of 564 students at three junior high schools and five senior high schools located in Seoul. The total number of questionnaires collected and used in our study was 479, which is 84.9% of the total questionnaires distributed. According to the survey results, three student groups (male and female students at junior high schools and female students at senior high schools) had lower than an ideal body weight. In case of their Basal Metabolic Indices (BMI), the female students and junior high school students showed a tendency to be underweight, while the other three student groups were within the normal range. The result of the survey showed that all four groups of students showed a deficiency in nutrient intake of calories, calcium and thiamin when compared with Korean RDA. Particularly, in the case of the female students at senior high schools, the deficiency of iron intake was a problem. The survey about food attitudes and food habits of the students showed that the senior high school students had more problems when compared with their junior high school counterparts (p < .001). Therefore, the instructional goals of nutritional education program were set as follows: 1) To improve the level of understanding and the perception of junior and senior high school students about the importance of a dietary lifestyle. 2) To change food attitudes and nutritional knowledge related to individual dietary 1ifestyle, so as to maintain good health through the enhancement of the students' physical activities. We found out that it is critically important to factor in the existing problems of food attitudes and food habits, as well as nutrient intake among junior and senor high school students when setting objectives for nutritional education programs. (Korean J Community Nutrition 8(4) : 495-503, 2003)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the interrelationships on integrated science process skills and Piagetian cognitive modes for high school students according to the different cognitive reasoning levels. About 509 high school students were randomly selected for the samples of this study. They were identified as concrete, transitional and formal operational stage with the scores of GALT(Group Assessment of Logical Thinking) developed by Roadrangka, Yeaney and Padilla(1982), and TIPS II(Test of Integrated Process Skills) developed by Burns, Wise and Okey(1983). The result of this study were showed that about 11.8% of the samples were in the concrete operational stage and about 24.4% of the samples were in the transitional stage, while about 63.8% of them were in the formal operational stage. It was also found that the achivement scores of the science process skills increase in accordance with the cognitive reasoning levels. The value of the correlation coefficient between science process skills and cognitive reasoning abilities was 0.49, which was significant at the 0.05 level. This finding seems to support previous research that the student's cognitive reasoning abilities appeared to have influenced student's scores of the science process skills No differences to the logical reasoning ability between male and female students according to each cognitive level were found except formal operational stage.

The purpose of this study was to find out the participation and perception on meal management of the junior and high school students and their fathers. Total of 446 junior and high school students in Pohang and Youngduk in Gyeongbuk were participated in the questionnaire survey. Among the 446 questionnaires collected, 385 questionnaires were analyzed for this study. The results of this study were summarized as follows. 1. Students participation frequency on meal management was quite insufficient, once or twice a month in average, and was differed by sex that female students participate more frequently than males. High school male students who have never been taught the home economics course showed the lowest participation. 2. Among the meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and dishwashing, 60% of the students chose cooking as the most preferred work. As whole, they chose the meal planning as the most difficult work, but high school male students chose cooking as the most difficult work. 3. Most of the students wanted to learn more about food purchasing, meal planning, cooking skill, table setting, food storage and table manners, the priority was given to table manners and cooking skill. 4. Participation score on meal management of student’fathers was even lower than that of students, only a little more often than once or twice a year. Because son usually identifies himself with his father, father should participate more often than now. 5. As for responsibility of meal management in the future, 78.2% of the male students and 91.8% female students answered that husband and wife must share the responsibility together when both husband and wife have jobs.
