  • Objectives : This study developed and validated the Perceived Stigma of Delirium Scale(PSDS), which is designed to measure perceived stigma associated with delirium in patients suffering from that disorder. Methods : Based on a literature review of scales assessing stigma, a preliminary scale comprising seven items was developed. After recovering from delirium, 128 patients completed the PSDS and the Distress Thermometer (DT). Factor analysis was used to examine construct validity, and internal consistency and test-retest reliability were examined to ensure reliability. Concurrent validity was assessed using the correlation between the total scores on the PSDS and the DT. Results : Factor analysis yielded a single-factor structure from the seven candidate items. One item was excluded due to low factor loading. The internal consistency was computed and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was 0.85 for the total score. The overall test-retest reliability was 0.71, with items ranging from 0.58 to 0.83. The total score on the PSDS was significantly correlated with the DT score. Conclusions : The PSDS may be a reliable, valid instrument for evaluating perceived stigma in patients who have recovered from delirium. Further study of the perceived stigma by delirium patients is required to assess the implications of the PSDS for clinical practice and research.

  • Following the earthquake in Gyeongju (2016) and Pohang (2017), South Korea is no longer a safe place for earthquakes. Accordingly, the need for shelters suitable for disaster environments is increasing. In this study, a lightweight composite panel was used to produce post-disaster housing for refugees to compensate for the disadvantages of existing evacuation facilities. For this purpose, an evaluation of structural performance and thermal environment for post-disaster housing for refugees composed of lightweight composite panels was performed. To assess the structural performance, a lateral loading test was conducted on a system made of lightweight composite panels. The specimens consisted of two types, which differed according to the bonding method, as a variable. In addition, the seismic and wind loads were calculated in accordance with KBC 2016 and compared with the experimental results. Regarding the energy performance, optimization of south-facing window planning and window-wall ratio and solar heat gain coefficient were analyzed to minimize heating, cooling, and lighting energy. As a result, the specimens composed of lightweight composite panels will perform sufficiently safely for lateral loads and the optimized window planning will lead to a low-energy operation.

  • To develop a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with lower Pt loading and higher performance in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), it is an important research issue to understand interfacial structure of Pt/C catalyst and ionomer and design the catalyst layer structure. In this study, we prepared short-side-chain Nafion-based ionomer dispersion using propylene glycol (PG) as a solvent instead of water which is commonly used as a solvent for commercially available ionomers. Cathode catalyst layers with different ionomer content from 20 to 35 wt% were prepared using the ionomer dispersion for the fabrication of four different MEAs, and their fuel cell performance was evaluated. As the ionomer content increased to 35 wt%, the performance of the prepared MEAs increased proportionally, unlike the commercially available water-based ionomer, which exhibited an optimum at about 25 wt%. Small size micelles and slow evaporation of PG in the ionomer dispersion were effective in proton transfer by inducing the formation of a uniformly structured catalyst layer, but the low oxygen permeability problem of the PG-based ionomer film should be resolved to improve the MEA performance.

  • Behaviors of splices between bolts and welding spliced PHC piles using the tensile strength test were analyzed. The bolts spliced PHC piles, which were tightened over $200N{\cdot}m$ tightening torque, showed straight V shaped line at splices at the lowest 20 N load. Both sides of PHC piles stayed straight, so the full section of bolts spliced piles did not show the unifying behavior, which was the most important performance requirement as pile. Other bolts spliced PHC piles, tightened with $20N{\cdot}m$ loosening torque, also showed the same straight V shaped line at splices for each step of loading. The full section of bolts spliced piles did not return to the initial position after each step of unloading and did not show the elastic material behavior. The splices quality of bolts spliced piles is much lower than that of welding spliced piles with respect to displacement of splices during each step of loadings, residual displacements during each step of unloadings, and failure loads. Results showed that bolts spliced PHC piles, tightened with both over $200N{\cdot}m$ and as low as $20N{\cdot}m$ torque, fell short of performance requirements of spliced PHC pile.

  • One of the Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System(C-ITS) priority services is collision prevention support service. Several studies have considered V2I2V communication-based collision prevention support services using Artificial Neural Networks(ANN). However, such services still show some issues due to a low penetration of C-ITS devices and large delay, particularly when loading massive traffic data into the server in the C-ITS center. This study proposes the Artificial Neural Network-based Collision Warning Service(ACWS), which allows upstream vehicle to update pre-determined weights involved in the ANN by using real-time sectional traffic information. This research evaluates the proposed service with respect to various penetration rates and delays. The evaluation result shows the performance of the ACWS increases as the penetration rate of the C-ITS devices in the vehicles increases or the delay decreases. Furthermore, it reveals a better performance is observed in more advanced ANN model-based ACWS for any given set of conditions.

  • Micropiles are cast-in-place piles with small diameters. The advantage of micropile is low construction expense and simple procedures, so it is widely applied to existing buildings and structures for the reinforcement of foundation and seismic performances. The base expansion structure has been developed following the original mechanism of horizontal expansion steps under compressive loading. This kind of structure can be installed at the pile end to improve the bearing capacity by tip area enlargement and horizontal force increment to the pile surface area. However, 'Micropile with base expansion structure' cannot be put into practical use, because detailed verification for the developed technique has not been conducted so far. In this research, 3-D numerical analysis was conducted to figure out the bearing mechanism of base expansion micropile and to verify the bearing capacity improvement compared to the general micropiles. 3-D modelling of micropile with base expansion structure was carried out and input parameter was determined. Bearing mechanism induced by base expansion structure was analyzed by lab-scale modelling, and bearing capacity improvement was verified by field-scale analysis.

  • To improve the productivity of cargo containment construction for a membrane LNG carrier, it is important to shorten the installation period and process of the scaffolding system, which is a construction workbench of a cargo containment for a membrane LNG carrier. As an effective method, opinions are being gathered to enlarge the lifting unit from the existing two stages to eight stages. On the other hand, the stresses around the pin and hole will increase significantly because of the increase in lifting load according to the large size of the module. The purpose of this study was to establish a new large module-lifting plan by introducing TRIZ to solve these problems. This study adopted a method to utilize 40 inventive principles, which is one of the various problem-solving tools of TRIZ. First, technical contradictions were derived, the engineering parameters were selected. Second, efficient inventive principles were selected to overcome the technical contradictions using a contradiction matrix. Finally, the general and specific solutions were derived through the selected inventive principle, and structural analysis confirmed that the stress generated in the structure was low. The utility of TRIZ was confirmed by the successful lifting of large modules using the established lifting method.

  • The recent surge in consumption of traditional liquor related to health, the results of analyzing the chemical characteristics and antioxidant activity by creating Kwaha-ju and Baekhwha-chun, which use Godubab as a method of treating glutinous and normal grains, are as follows. Kwaha-ju is mainly made of glutinous rice, 5.21~12.52% alcohol content, 1.07~2.47g/L in reducing sugar content, 3.22~3.77% pH, Baikhwha-chun alcohol content was 3~5%, except for some experimental groups, and pH was low. As a result of the spectrum analysis of traditional liquor, 50% of the experimental group in Baikhwa-chun is located in the negative area of PC1 such as overload, and some amino acids such as lactic acid, isoleucine, and choline are the main ingredients of glucose, xylose, and maltose. Therefore, the chemical properties and antioxidant activity of Kwaha-ju and Baikhwa-chun, which show similar composition ratio of traditional liquor materials, and use them as basic data to identify and manufacture traditional liquor fermentation through mutual analysis.

  • Micropiles are widely used in construction field to enhance bearing capacity and reduce settlement of existing foundation. It has various benefits such as low construction expense, simple installation process, and small construction equipment. Recently, new microple equipped with the base expansion structure at the end has been developed to improve the foundation bearing capacity. The improvement of load capacity can be conceptually achieved by expanding the base expansion structure when a load is applied to the micropile. However, the expansion mechanism of the base expansion structure and the improvement of load capacity of the micropile were not yet experimentally validated. Therefore, in this study, a series of centrifuge model tests was performed to evaluate the effect of the base expansion structure on the improvement of load capacity. Two types of soil, sand and weathered rock, were prepared and the loading tests were performed using the real micropile with the base expansion structure. During the tests, the earth pressures surrounding the base expansion structure were monitored. As a result, when a load of 30 kN was applied to the micropile, the increase in the ratio of the horizontal to vertical pressure increment (∆σh/∆σ𝜈) ranged from 0.4 to 0.58 in sand and ∆σh/∆σ𝜈 = 0.19 in weathered rock, respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the increase in the horizontal earth pressure adjacent to the base expansion structure will improve the bearing capacity of the micropile.

  • In this study, centrifuge model tests with 50 g gravitational condition were performed to evaluate the bearing capacity of very soft ground, improved by spreading geotextile and sand on the surface of ground, for the heavy machinery to be able to access. For undrained shear strength of ground model, prepared with the clay sampled from the field, being in the range of 3.1~11.7 kPa, bearing capacity tests were performed with the model footing and the loading system built to simulate the heavy machinery on the ground model treated with geotextile and sand. Test results were compared with theoretically and numerically evaluated ones. Test results about load-settlement curves showed that the bearing capacity increases with the increase of the undrained shear strength of ground. Punching shear or local shear failure was also observed. For a relatively low undrained shear strength of ground, settlement behavior is found to be crucial to evaluating the trafficability of machinery whereas bearing capacity becomes a dominant factor with the increase of undrained shear strength of ground. The method for assessing the bearing capacity of the ground related to trafficability of machinery is presented by acquiring the regression relationship between the contact pressure of machinery and settlements using load-settlement curves with the change of the undrained shear strength. Furthermore, results of numerical analyses about load-settlement relation are in relatively good agreement with those of centrifuge model test.
