  • The estimation of AC losses is demanded for higher efficiency and stability in AC use of superconducting coils. Hysteresis loss occurred by a.c. transport current is called of self field loss, and it is major part of losses generated in a.c. superconducting wire in case of located in low external magnetic field as superconducting transformer with iron core, or in short twist pitch wire, multiply stacking cable. In this paper, we calculate self field loss of superconducting wire.

  • The self-field losses in a long multifilamentary Bi-2223/AgMgNi tape with varying transport current, voltage tap configurations, frequency and tape arrangements were investigated. Experimental results show that the measured losses are strongly dependent on voltage gap configurations but independent on tape arrangements. All voltage taps except the center tap are found to agree well with those predicted by Norris for an elliptical conductor. The self-field losses are purely hysteretic in nature in the range of applied frequencies for the transport currents below the critical current.

  • The study of loss aversion has progressed. Specifically, Brenner et al. (2007) distinguished between possession loss aversion (PLA) and valence loss aversion (VLA) and explained PLA is the loss of cash or spot goods (money, apartment) and that VLA is the loss of tentative value (opportunity of oversea study, coupon). Also, they explored how the tendency of loss aversion was different between when possession loss was salience and when valence loss was outstanding. But, in our everyday life, it is more common that people face some economic situation where the gain and loss between possession and valence are competing. And, in this situation, they usually choose a better option based on their ordinary mind-set or self-focus rather than on which option has more benefit. Therefore, present research is that whether the tendency of loss aversion is different based on one's ordinary self-focus. Concretely, after priming promotion focus vs. prevention focus, participants should decide whether present occupation changes or not when gain and loss between possession and valence compete (income increase but oversea study chance decrease or income decrease but oversea study chance increase). As a result, there are more rate of changing job in promotion focusing condition than prevention focusing condition based on positive change irrespective of possession or valence. This result can have implication for marketing, consumer and advertisement psychology.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Existing evidence on lifestyle modification programs for weight loss is limited by the high attrition rate of such programs. Identifying predictors of adherence to a lifestyle modification program could result in program improvement. However, little is known about behavior-specific adherence and its psychological predictors. This study aimed to examine the psychological predictors of adherence after one-month participation in a community-based lifestyle modification program among Chinese overweight and obese adults in Hong Kong. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 205 Chinese overweight and obese adults aged $38.9{\pm}10.5years$ completed the study. Data were collected at baseline and after one month using self-reported questionnaires, which assessed knowledge (self-developed scale), motivation (Treatment Self-Regulation Questionnaire), stage of change (Stage of Exercise Scale) and self-efficacy (Self-Rated Abilities for Health Practices Scale). At one month, a 4-day dietary recall and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form were used to assess dietary and physical activity (PA) adherence. Food and PA diaries were examined to indicate self-monitoring. Program attendance was tracked between baseline and one-month follow-up. RESULTS: After one month, participants reported high dietary adherence, attendance, and adherence to self-monitoring but low PA adherence. Multiple regression analyses suggested that diet self-efficacy (baseline) and nutrition knowledge (one-month change) were independent predictors of dietary adherence score at one month, whereas autonomous PA motivation (baseline) and PA self-efficacy (both baseline and one-month change) were independent predictors of PA adherence score at one month. No significant psychological predictor was identified for attendance or self-monitoring. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the effect of psychological factors on adherence differs between diet and PA adherence outcomes. To promote adherence, practitioners should assess self-efficacy, knowledge, and motivation at the beginning of a weight-loss program and explore behavior-specific strategies to improve knowledge and self-efficacy. The results of this study have direct implications for program improvements.

  • We experimentally investigated lifted propane jet flames diluted with nitrogen to obtain flame-stability maps based on heat-loss-induced self-excitation. We found that heat-loss-induced self-excitations are caused by conductive heat loss from premixed flame branches to trailing diffusion flames as well as soot radiation. The conductive-heat-loss-induced self-excitation at frequencies less than 0.1 Hz is explained well by a suggested mechanism, whereas the oscillation of the soot region induces a self-excitation of lift-off height of the order of 0.1 Hz. The suggested mechanism is also verified from additive experiments in a room at constant temperature and humidity. The heat-loss-induced self-excitation is explained by the Strouhal numbers as a function of the relevant parameters.

  • In this study, we try to find out and analyze the results of reduced self-esteem and loss using text mining. Physical health is important, of course, but these days, mental health is considered more important. In order for the mind to be healthy, it is important to have self-esteem and self-confidence first. Self-esteem decreases, and if lost, it directly leads to depression. If depression is severe, the worst will lead to self-harm and suicide. However, more and more people are committing suicide these days because both ordinary people and entertainers cannot overcome depression. For this reason, the seriousness of depression and loss of self-esteem are also considered important and become an issue. Therefore, we want to collect data for a certain period of time through Naver, Instagram, and Twitter searches and extract the words of the data to anticipate and analyze the cause of loss of self-esteem, how serious the recent depression is, and what the consequences of loss of self-esteem are.

  • Self-excitations of edge flame were studied in laminar lifted free- and coflow-jet as well as counterflow flames diluted with nitrogen and helium. The self-excitations, originated from variation of edge flame speed and found in the above-mentioned configurations, are discussed. A newly found self-excitation and flame blowout, caused by the conductive heat loss from premixed wings to trailing diffusion flame are described and characterized in laminar lifted jet flames. Some trials to distinguish Lewis-number-induced self-excitation from buoyancy-driven one with O(1.0 Hz) are introduced, and then the differences are discussed. In counterflow configuration, important role of the outermost edge flame in flame extinction is also suggested and discussed.

  • Experimental study in coflow jet flames has been conducted to investigate the helium-dilution effect of coflow air on self-excitation. For various helium mole fractions and jet velocities, two types of self-excitation were observed: buoyancy-driven self-excitation and Lewis-number-induced self-excitation(here after called Le-ISE) coupled with buoyancy-driven one. The difference between buoyancy-driven and Le-ISE is clarified by using the Mie-scattering visualization as well as exploring the different features. The mechanism of Le-ISE is proposed. When the system Damk$\ddot{o}$hler number was lowered, Le-ISE is shown to be launched. Le-ISE is closely related to heat loss, in that it can be launched in even methane jet flame (Lewis number less than unity) with helium-diluted coflow air. Particularly, Le-ISE becomes significant as the Damk$\ddot{o}$hler number decreases and heat-loss becomes significant.

  • Superconductor is developed for applications in high-power devices such as power-transmission cables, transformers, motor and generators. In such applications, HTS tapes are subjected to various kinds of stress or strain. AC loss is also important consideration for many large-scale superconducting devices. In the fabrication of the devices, the critical current $(I_c)$ of the high temperature superconductor degrades due to many reasons including the tension applied by bending and thermal contraction. These bending or tension reduces the $I_c$ of superconducting wire and the $I_c$ degradation affects the AC loss of the wire. The $I_c$ degradation and AC loss (self field loss) of Bi-2223 HTS and Coated conductor were measured under tension and bending conditions at 77K and self-field.

  • In this work the AC loss measurement setup based on an iron core background magnet, not used in a conventional one, has been successfully developed. To prove its validity, a round-robin test for the same Bi-2223 tape sample among three institutes has been done. The results show that the self-field and magnetization losses from the developed setup well agree with the losses measured at two other institutes of Korea Basic Science Institute and Yokohama National University. The measured magnetization losses for parallel or perpendicular fields can be well predicted from the slab model or the strip model for a filamentary region. However the magnetization losses for longitudinal fields can be rather predicted by the slab model for a decoupled filament. The self-field losses are well explained by the Norris ellipse model.
