The Levels of Psychosocial Stress, Job Stress and Related Factors of Medical Doctors Practicing at Local Clinics (일부 개원의사들의 사회심리적 스트레스 및 직무 스트레스 관련 요인)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to investigate the levels of psychosocial stress, job stress and their related factors among medical doctors practicing at local clinics. Methods : A survey using a self administered questionnaire was administered to 1,456 doctors practicing at private clinics via post for 2 months (2006. 1 - 2006. 3). Psychosocial stress, job stress, demographic factors, job related factors and health related behaviors were investigated. Among the eligible study population, the respondents were 428 doctors (29.4%). Results : The average scores of psychosocial stress and job stress were 2.19 and 3.13, respectively. The levels of psychosocial stress and job stress were statistically lower in older respondents, those who worked shorter or who were more satisfied with their job, and those with higher socioeconomic status. The level of psychosocial stress was related with smoking status, drinking status and exercise. The level of job stress was related with smoking status and exercise. In multiple linear regression analysis using psychosocial stress as a dependent variable, age, working hours per day, job satisfaction and perception on socioeconomic status were significant independent variables. In analysis using job stress as a dependent variable, age, working hours per day and job satisfaction were significant independent variables. Conclusions : Stress affects the doctor-patient relationship, productivity and overall health level of people. Therefore, it is important to manage and relieve the stress of doctors. It is suggested that more advanced studies on stress level and related factors and ways to improve the stress and health related behaviors of medical doctors should be conducted.

Damage detection of a thin plate using pseudo local flexibility method

  • The virtual forces of the original local flexibility method are restricted to inducing stress on the local parts of a structure. To circumvent this restriction, we developed a pseudo local flexibility (PLFM) method that can successfully detect damage to hyperstatic beam structures using fewer modes. For this study, we further developed the PLFM so that it could detect damage in plate structures. We also devised the theoretical background for the PLFM with non-local virtual forces for plate structures, and both the lateral and rotary degree of freedom (DOF) measurements were considered separately. This study investigates the effects of the number of modes, the actual location that sustained damage, multiple damage locations, and noise in modal parameters for the damage detection results obtained from damaged numerical plates. The results revealed that the PLFM can be used for damage detection, localization, and quantification for plate structures, regardless of the use of the lateral DOF and/or rotary DOF.

  • We present a new global/local analysis with the aid of MLS(Moving Least Square)-based finite elements which can handle an arbitrary number of nodes on every element side. It give a great flexibility in constructing finite element meshes at the specified local regions without remeshing. Compared to other type global/local analysis, it does not require any superimposed mesh or need not solve the equilibrium equation twice as well as shows an excellent accuracy. To demonstrate the performance of proposed scheme, we will show several examples in relation to capturing highly local stress field.

Effects of Geometry and Imperfection of a Small-sized Groove on Stress Distributions in the Vicinity of the Joined Region of an ABS Part with a Thin Wall (기저부에 생성된 작은 홈 형상과 결함이 박벽이 포함된 ABS 재료로 제작된 제품의 결합 영역 응력 분포에 미치는 영향)

  • The geometry and the defect of the groove of the part provoke a sudden change of stress in a local region. The objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of the geometry and the imperfection of a small groove on stress distributions in the vicinity of the joined region for the ABS part with a thin wall using a three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). Several types of groove are designed to improve joining characteristics in the vicinity joined region. The imperfection model of the small-sized groove is obtained from observation of deposition characteristics of a fused deposition modeling process. Local stress distributions in the vicinity of the joined region are predicted by the FE model with refined meshes. The influence of the angle and the imperfection of the groove on appearance regions of the maximum stress and distributions of the defined principal stress for different loading conditions is examined using the results of FEAs. Finally, a proper design of the groove is proposed to improve joining characteristics between the substrate and the ABS part.

Physiological and Biochemical Responses of Local Arundinella hirta Collections in Korea against Drought Stress

  • Drought is one of the key limiting factors that adversely affects the growth and productivity of crop plants. For the enhancement of drought tolerance in crop plants, the identification of basic mechanisms of a plant to drought stress is necessary. In this study, we compared physiological and biochemical responses of five local Arundenilla hirta ecotypes to drought stress. These ecotypes were previously collected from various parts of Korean peninsula, including Youngduk, Gunsan, Jangsoo, Jinju-1 and Yecheon. A. hirta plants were exposed to drought stress for 14 and 17 days respectively, followed by re-watering for 3 days. The results showed that the lipid peroxidation (MDA), hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, and proline level were significantly increased while the chlorophyll content was decreased by drought stress in A. hirta leaves. The highest proline content and DPPH scavenging activity were shown in Ecotype of Youngduk with least MDA and $H_2O_2$ levels while the highest MDA and $H_2O_2$ contents, and least proline and DPPH levels were shown in Gunsan, respectvely. These results indicate that the Youngduk is the most tolerant and Gunsan is the most sensitive ecotype among the five different collections. Together, these results provide a new insight of overall physiological responses of A. hirta to drought stress.

The Effect of Lab Classes Satisfaction of Culinary-Related Majors on Academic Stress and Class Participation in Local Colleges

  • This study investigated the degree of influence of satisfaction with lab classes related to the culinary arts major on academic stress and class participation in the major. This survey was conducted on 228 first-year students majoring in culinary arts at six junior colleges in the Gwangju, Jeonnam and Jeonbuk regions in the second semester of 2023. For data processing, SPSS Ver. 25.0 was used. We conducted general characteristics, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis on the survey data. As a result of this study, first, it was found that there was a correlation between the sub-components of satisfaction with cooking-related lab classes and academic stress and class participation. Second, the influence of satisfaction with cooking lab classes on major academic stress was found to be significant. Third, satisfaction with cooking lab classes had a significant influence on class participation in major classes. In conclusion, satisfaction with lab classes in cooking-related majors at local community colleges was found to have an effect on academic stress and class participation. In the future, we look forward to follow-up research on how culinary practice experience before entering college affects satisfaction with practical training classes, academic stress, and career and employment preparation.

  • Measurements of strain near a crack tip with electrical resistance strain gages do not usually provide a reliable value of stress intensity factor (K sub I) because of local yielding and limited regions for strain-gage placement. This paper attempted to define a valid region and to indicate procedures for locating and orienting the strain-gage to determine stress intensity factor accurately from one stain-gage readings.

Boundary element analysis of singular thermal stresses in a unidirectional laminate

  • The residual thermal stresses at the interface corner between the elastic fiber and the viscoelastic matrix of a two-dimensional unidirectional laminate due to cooling from cure temperature down to room temperature were studied. The matrix material was assumed to be thermorheologically simple. The time-domain boundary element method was employed to investigate the nature of stresses on the interface. Numerical results show that very large stress gradients are present at the interface corner and this stress singularity might lead to local yielding or fiber-matrix debonding.

On Constructing an Explicit Algebraic Stress Model Without Wall-Damping Function

  • In the present study, an explicit algebraic stress model is shown to be the exact tensor representation of algebraic stress model by directly solving a set of algebraic equations without resort to tensor representation theory. This repeals the constraints on the Reynolds stress, which are based on the principle of material frame indifference and positive semi-definiteness. An a priori test of the explicit algebraic stress model is carried out by using the DNS database for a fully developed channel flow at Rer = 135. It is confirmed that two-point correlation function between the velocity fluctuation and the Laplacians of the pressure-gradient i s anisotropic and asymmetric in the wall-normal direction. Thus, a novel composite algebraic Reynolds stress model is proposed and applied to the channel flow calculation, which incorporates non-local effect in the algebraic framework to predict near-wall behavior correctly.

FATIGUE DAMAGE PARAMETER OF SPOT WELDED JOINTS UNDER PROPORTIONAL LOADING

  • In this paper, the author proposes a fatigue damage parameter of spot welded joints under proportional loading. The proposed fatigue damage parameter is developed based on von Mises' equivalent stress and local structural stress at the edge of spot weld nugget. The structural stress at the edges of the weld nugget in each sheet is calculated using the forces and moments that are determined by finite element analysis. A structural equivalent stress is then calculated by von Mises' equivalent stress equation. The structural equivalent stresses are correlated to experimental fatigue life of the spot welded joints. The proposed parameter is evaluated with fatigue test data of spot welds subjected to multi axial and tensile-shear loads. Sheppard's parameter and Rupp and co-workers' parameter are also evaluated with the same test data to compare with the author's parameter. This proposed parameter presents a better correlation with experimental fatigue data than those of Sheppard's and Rupp and co-workers' parameter. The proposed parameter should be very effective for durability calculations during the early design phase since coarsely meshed finite element models can be employed.
