Coal-tar enamel, blown asphalt and polyethylene have been used as wrapping materials of steel pipe in Korea. Currently, every manufacturer produces wrapped steel pipes with different materials and methods, and little research has been performed to get on wrapping methods and materials. In this research, properties of wrapping material of steel pipe used for water supply have been evaluated. All of the materials tested in this work were found to meet the standard. Among the wrapping materials of steel pipe tested, blown asphalt and coal-tar enamel were reasonable in price, and their mechanical properties were excellent. The quality of the wrapped steel pipes was being melted easily in organic solvent. When coated thick, the load of the steel pipes was higher than necessary. Tensile strength of cathode exfoliation and PE 3-layer wrapping method was excellent. The pulling intensity of T-Die PE 3-layer was stronger than PE fluidized in PE wrapping method. Cathode exfoliation area was smaller than PE fluidized. Mechanical property and thermo-property of T-Die PE 3-layer were excellent and its anti-chemical property was great. Liquid epoxy can change the property of coating materials depending on the hardening condition and resin selection. Polyurethane used in this test showed a less adhesive strength with steel pipes than epoxy. Moisture absorbance rate was higher than Epoxy's, however. To utilize polyurethane as wrapping materials, basic property of the matter should be improved followed by finding the best suited coating condition. The method of PE 3-layer by extrude method appeared to be the best in this study. However, identification of other wrapping materials requires further additional tests.
This paper describes several performances and nondestructive inspection for deterioration due to forest fires in overhead transmission lines. After discussing corrosion mechanism such as atmospheric and galvanic corrosion for aged ACSR conductors and its detection for them are presented. Through impedance analysis of a solenoid coil, it is shown that the eddy current sensor may be available to inspect severe fault or local corrosion. As the solenoid coil changes its impedance when the test conductor is inserted into the coil, it can be possible to measure deterioration degree caused by forest fires. Tensile strength, extension rate and sensor impedance are tested for some samples degraded by artificial fire. As increasing blazed period to some extent, the strength of aluminum strand begins to be reduced remarkably, while galvanized steel strand holds the similar strength to the initial value, despite of appearing a little loss of zinc layer. In general, it is shown that the sensor impedance would be increased while the tension load of conductor is reduced and the extension rate is contrarily increased. Therefore, the sensor output could exhibit the changes of mechanical performances, and would be used to detect such deterioration caused by forest fire in ACSR conductors built on the ridge of mountains. Finally, it was verified that the solenoid coil could be applicable to obtain any crucial inform for serious deterioration due to forest fires.

The conventional preflex beams are designed by the method of paritial prestressing and allow the tensile stresses at the lower concrete of beams. As a consequence, most of preflex beams experience the tensile cracks under the service loads. This study was conducted to develop the most effective preflex beams, which do not allow tensile stress under the service load, by introducing additional prestressing called 'represtressing' at the lower concrete of beams. The objective of the study was accomplished by developing a computer analysis and design program and conducting experiments. Using the developed computer program, standard sections of the represtressed preflex beams were determined by computer modeling. In the experiment, two actual size of represtressed beams were tested under the imitated service loads. The results of test have shown that the performance of the represtressed preflex beams is generally excellent. A remarkable improvement was made in the design of preflex composite beams. Since the represtressed preflex beams(RPF) do not experience the tensile cracks under the service loads, the use of this beam for the bridge structures will lead to easy bridge maintenance and management. Furthermore, due to the low beam depth, high clearance and economical design can be realized in the bridge design using RPF.

The purpose of the study described in this paper was to experimentally investigate branch squared T joints with cold formed hollow structural sections under the in plane moment in a Vierendeel Truss. The branch in the T joints was welded to the upper flange of the chord. The main experimental parameters were the ratio of the width to the thickness of the chord ($2{\gamma}$), with ${16.7{\leq}2{\gamma}{\leq}33.3}$, and the width ratio of the branch to the chord ($\beta$), with ${0.40{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}0.71}$. Nine specimens were tested and manufactured in joints under the in plane bending moment. Based on the results of the test, the in plane moment strength of the branch squared T joints was determined according to the bending deformation of the chord flange yielding, regardless of the ratio of the width to the thickness of the chord and the ratio of the width of the branch to the width of the chord. Also, the in plane moment strength of the branch squared T joints in the hollow structural sections can be defined as 1.5 times the moment load at M1%B the strength of the joints that governed the serviceability in the control group. Finally, the experimental results with the branch squared T joints show that the in lane moment strength of the joint increased as $2{\gamma}$ decreased and $\beta$ increased.

This study applied finite element analysis (FEA) to the body frame of the 200-meter class multi-legged subsea walking robot known as Crabster (CR200). The body frame of the CR200 is modeled after the ribcage of a human so that it can disperse applied external loads. It is made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Therefore, the frame is lighter and stronger than it would be if it were made of other conventional materials. In order to perform FEA for the CFRP body frame, we applied the material properties of the CFRP as obtained from a specimen test to an FE model of CFRP frame. Finally, we performed FEA with respect to the load conditions encountered when the robot is launched into and recovered from the sea. Also, we performed FEA for the frame, assuming that it was fabricated using a conventional material, in order to compare its characteristics with CFRP.
This study was conducted to examine the influence and effect of muscle enforcement program on Activity of daily living(ADL) improvement and posture balance of the old, and to provide more effective muscle enforcement program and educational data. The muscle enforcement exercise program was performed on the old(institution, 16 men, 10 women) for 8 weeks from April 22, 2002 through June 17,2002. Programed Exercise 1 - Exercise 10 were practised 8 times per program for 3 days a week. The load of exercise was increased per two weeks. The methods of measurement were questionnaire, Indiana 47903(action-response analysis machine) and Sample exercise protocol for KAT 2000(balance training device). SAS/PC statistic analysis was used for data analysis. T-test was used for analysis of change before and after exercise in this study. The summary and conclusions are as follows. 1. On subjectively recognized health states, the healthy were $42.3\%$. On the satisfaction with health states, the satisfied were $50.0\%$. On the factors of effects on daily-life behavior performance, the group who had troubles was $50\%$ and the group who was so and so was $34.6\%$ compared with the old of the same age. On prospect about health states in the future, the group who would be better was $38.\%$. On effective methods for problem solving, exercise was $42.3\%.\;88.5\%$ of respondents answered the need of health care. The participation intention in health program was $92.3\%$. 2. On the change of psychological emotion and behavior aspects, the group who had repeated complaints or anxieties and reduced activities or interests was effective(P<0.01). 3. On the improvement effects of IADL difficulties, the group who had difficulties in doing daily-life indoors was improved effectively compared with before and after exercise(P<0.01). On medication management, the effects of improvement after exercise were high compared with before exercise(P<0.01), the effects of improvement was high on the whole. 4. On the effects of ADL function improvement, putting on upper clothing and lower clothing was improved effectively(P<0.05), toilet use and individual sanitation was improved effectively(P<0.05). 5. On the effects of action-response, the results of 8weeks regular exercise program were not different significantly compared with before and after exercise. The behavior quickness of the old by muscle enforcement program was not increased. This means that the old needs much time for exercise sense training because of the regression of cognition sense. 6. In the effect of posture balance, the whole grades were effective from 1272.69 before excercise to 476.92 after exercise(P<0.01). Especially right balance 657.65 was lowered to 208.57 after exercise most effectively(P<0.01). Rear balance 776.34 before exercise was lowered to 136.65 after exercise. The results of measurement were significant(P<0.05).
Purpose: This study examined the effects of swimming exercise and Achyranthes Radix extracts on the inflammatory and behavioral responses in type II collagen-induced arthritic rats for 28 days. Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated randomly to one of the following four groups: only type II collageninduced (group Ⅰ), application of swimming exercise after type II collagen-induced (group II), application of Achyranthes Radix ointment after type II collagen-induced (group III), application of swimming exercise and Achyranthes Radix ointment after type II collagen-induced (group IV). Arthritis was established in SD rats by an intradermal injection of Chick type II collagen plus incomplete Freund's adjuvant at the base of the tail of the animals. The swimming exercise program consisted of a 25 min swimming session/day with a load corresponding to 5.5% of the weight bearing, three days/week for four weeks. The Achyranthes Radix ointment (0.1g) was applied twice a day for five days. The changes in behavior, H & E stain, and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) level in the knee joint were assessed. Results: The gross and histological examination, after RA induction showed reddening, edema and erythema. The H & E stain revealed the destruction of articular cartilage, bony erosion and the infiltration of inflammatory cells after RA induction. The mechanical allodynia test results were significantly higher in group I than in groups II, III and IV (p<0.01). The immunohistochemistrical response of COX-2 in the knee joint showed that groups II, III, IV had a lower response effect than group I. Conclusion: Swimming exercise training and Achyranthes Radix ointment decreased the inflammatory responses and enhanced the behavioral responses in the arthritic rats.
Bearing strength test was investigated to determine the bearing properties of domestic larix glulam according to the load direction (in parallel to grain and in perpendicular to grain), the fastener (bolt and drift-pin), and the direction of laminae. The specimen was 5 ply glulam. The diameters of fastener are 12, 16 and 20 mm. The results were as follows. 1) In according to the diameter of bolt and drift-pin, the average of maximum bearing strength in parallel to grain loading was similar to that in perpendicular to grain loading. The average of maximum bearing strength was 1.50~2.31 times higher in parallel to grain loading than in perpendicular to grain loading. The average of maximum bearing strength in parallel to grain loading was lowered by 20% with increasing the diameter from 16 mm to 20 mm, but that in perpendicular to grain loading didn't show a clear tendency. 2) The average of bearing stiffness in parallel to grain loading was the highest at 16 mm in diameter. The average of bearing stiffness is similar to the shearing stiffness in drift-pin connection with increasing diameter. 3) In parallel to grain loading, the failure mode of specimens was the splitting along the grain in decreasing diameter. The failure mode in perpendicular to grain loading was the splitting along the grain. In this case, split occured more in specimens using bolt than in those using drift-pin. 4) The 5% offset yield strength in parallel to grain loading was similar to the predicted bearing strength of KBCS, NDS. In perpendicular to grain loading, the NDS's equation can be applied to predict the bearing strength.

Sealing structure to prevent flowing hot gas into the driving device, located between the driving shaft and the liner of On-Off valve for controlling the hot gas flow path was studied. Wear occurs due to the constant movement of the driving shaft controlled by actuator on graphite as the sealing material. In this paper, the dynamic wear behavior in high temperature of graphite(HK-6) to be used as sealing material was evaluated. Reciprocating wear test was carried out for the graphite(HK-6) to the relative motion between shaft materials(W-25Re). The results of friction coefficient and specific wear rate according to contact load, sliding speed at room temperature and $485^{\circ}C$ considering the actual operating environment were evaluated. Through the SEM analysis of the worn surface, third body as lubricant films were observed and lubricant effect of third body was considered.
In order to establish the watershed water quality management strategy of Total Maximum Daily Load(TMDL), it is necessary to understand the relationship between water quality component impacts, and to identify the impacts on downstream target point of watershed water quality management of waste treatment plant(WTP) discharge and upstream/tributary loads. In this study, we determined the impacts between the water quality contaminants, and traced water pollution sources using monitoring data of ministry of environment in tributaries and main stream and WTP monitoring data. Test area is set to Geumho river basin which has characteristics of urban and rural area and composes of GeumhoA, GeumhoB, GeumhoC watershed units in TMDL. The clustering with five grades of discharge data and the correlation analysis were performed through the FDC(Flow duration curve) analysis, which more clearly identified the points and water contaminants deteriorating target water quality of downstream point. This can be used as a tool for tracing pollutants with FDC analysis, and will help us establish the watershed water quality management strategy for TMDL target point in watershed more effectively.
