  • The interest about noise and vibration is increasing by a living level elevation recently. Particularly, the interest about the influence that vibration of machine has on the safety of building is rising. However, there are a lot of the cases that the influence of machine isn't considered in designing the factory buildings. The purpose of this study is to suggest the results of measuring that the influence of machine's vibration in A factory has on the building structure.

  • Despite the effort for affording hearing handicapped persons facility for living, the investigation of assistive devices which recognize the out of sight circumstance has been studied insignificantly. In this paper, a novel acoustic-aware system is suggested to forward the sudden noise occured by the appearance of a new context to a hearing-impaired persons.

  • Noise and vibration induced by subway operation are one of the major factor that annoying residents living near the. railway. In general, lateral vibration was the major concern when we are considering vibration of the building. Since the energy due to earthquake is enormous it affects wide area. However, the vertical vibration became a major concern in considering the vibration induced by subway because relatively smaller energy affects only nearby areas than that of earthquake. Analysis model of the structure for the vertical vibration should consider the effect of beam vibration. Thus, the model of the structure for the lateral vibration can not be applied. Appropriate analysis model which can consider the inertia force of the beam is necessary when analyzing a structure for the vertical vibration. Modeling technique for the vertical vibration analysis of structures has been studied on this paper. It is recommeneded to use 2 or more elements for columns and to use 3 or more elements for beams when analyzing structures for vertical vibration induced by subway.

  • For the comfortable housing life, comfortable and pleasant urban environment should be created for the people living in house and in city. There are lots of environmental conditions in city affecting house and life. Also most of all the noise pollution have been become major factor that makes people's life uncomfortable. Recently soundscape researches have been performed to create comfortable urban environment and various studies on the evaluation of urban environmental sounds are now undergoing. This study aimed to analyse the subjective characteristics through the subjective evaluation to the sounds measured with physical parameters and eventually to find out alternative evaluation method for urban environmental sounds. Adjectives applied to previous studies were used for the subjective evaluation and sound sources recorded in specific places were presented with picture at the same time. As a result, new physical parameters such as Lmax, Unbiased Annoyance, G, N and EmT have a feasibility to evaluation of urban environment sounds in terms of acoustic comfort.

  • Smart materials can adapt to changes of environment like living organs in nature such that they can maximize the performance and minimize the maintenance expense of engineering systems. Such materials have been paid attention ten years ago and applied in the area of industry, aerospace, transportation and civil structures. This paper summarizes smart material technology and shows some application examples in railway vehicles. Also, its future of smart material technology in railway vehicle technology is envisaged based on its possibility and practical aspect.

A Study on Determination of Ranking for Railroad Line's Improvement in Seoul using Fuzzy Theory (Fuzzy모형을 이용한 시가지 내 철도선로 정비 우선순위 결정에 관한 연구)

  • The existence of railroad line gives many influences in various kinds of aspects. To minimize negative influences is necessary to line's improvement, but appropriate methodology doesn't show until now. In this study, Fuzzy Integration Method(FIM) are employed in an effort to give ranking for railroad line's improvement in Seoul. The FIM is designed to generalize a various influences, appeared on account of existence of railroad line. Empirical analysis is performed for railroad line in distance of 83.5㎞ in Seoul. The total lines are divided in 51 sections, and there are selected a 11 evaluation index to reflect influences. Through a questionnaire survey about residents, operator and administrator, important degree of evaluation items are decided, reveal ins the interests of related groups. Then, evaluation values are calculated wi th practical survey results about each sections. The results of evaluation reveal that the higher ranking of improvement from FIM concentrates the Kyeng-Ul Line and Kyeng-Won line because these lines appear a many public discontents and negative influences such as noise and demolition of living environment.

The experiences of patients with tinnitus: a qualitative study (이명 환자의 증상 경험 연구)

  • Purpose: Tinnitus, which is often described as the conscious awareness of a sound without an external auditory stimulus, is one of the most common symptoms in the general population. This study aimed to explore the experiences of individuals living with tinnitus. Methods: In this qualitative exploratory study, data were collected from November 2017 to January 2018 through in-depth individual interviews with 11 tinnitus patients. Verbatim transcripts and field notes were analyzed using content analysis. Results: The extracted content was classified into three core categories of tinnitus experiences: "suffering from constant sound," "being imprisoned surrounded by persistent noise," and "efforts to overcome." Conclusion: This study shows that tinnitus had a severe negative impact on patients' lives. The finding will help healthcare providers understand their patients more deeply.

Fire Alarm Sound Transmission in Apartment Units (공동주택에서의 화재경보음 전달)

  • To reduce the number of casualties in the case of fire, an alarm sound needs to be delivered to the people who remain in the apartment unit. On the other hand, it was reported that the fire alarm sound generated in the elevator hall was not delivered sufficiently to the people staying in the apartment units. In this study, the background noise level and noise level generated in an apartment unit were measured during the day and night time. In addition, the transmission of the fire alarm sound into the each room of apartment units was simulated and compared with the background noise level. The fire alarm sound generated in the elevator halls was reduced by the fire door and doors, and was not transmitted sufficiently into the internal spaces of the apartment units. Starting evacuation action was difficult after hearing the fire alarm sound generated outside the apartment units. To improve the transmission of an alarm sound to the inner spaces of apartment units, an acoustic simulation was carried out for cases where the alarm sound generator was installed on a wall-pad in the living room and the alarm sound generator was installed on the ceiling of each rooms in apartment units. Background noise of + 15 dB and 75 dB (A) were satisfied when alarm sound generator was installed on the ceiling of each room.

Estimation of the Value of Road Traffic Noise within Apartment Housing Prices (아파트가격에 내재된 도로교통소음가치 추정)

  • In the developed countries, traffic noise is one of most serious problems faced by people's lives. So the importance of the traffic noise is quite well recognized by the infrastructure planners as well as the people. The traffic noise is valued in monetary terms in some countries and it is reflected in estimating the net present value or benefit/cost ratio. On the contrary, the effects of traffic noise are not reflected in the assessment of infrastructure in most cases in Korea. However, as the income level has been increasing, more people have been becoming to put more importance on their living conditions. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the value of traffic noise in the Seoul metropolitan area. The housing price were surveyed to use the quasi-hedonic price technique. By this way, two housing prices at the same floor level in different 128 complexes in the Seoul metropolitan area were surveyed. the actual traffic noise level was also measured. The differences of housing prices and noise levels were analyzed using the various types of regression models. The value is quite different by size of house. The value of large house is higher than that of small house. Since the income level of people in large house is higher than that in small house. it might be said that value of traffic noise for high income people is higher than that for low income people. Moreover, the increase of 1dB(A) noise affects the house price by about 0.3% in Seoul metropolitan area.
