Effects of Ventilation Types on Interior Environment of the Enclosed Farrowing-Nursery Pig House (무창 분만 ${\cdot}$ 자돈사 환기 형태가 돈사내 환경에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to collect basic data about the effects of ventilation types on the interior environment of the enclosed farrowing-nursery pig house in Anseong, Icheon and Jeungpyong. Surveyed ventilation types in the enclosed farrowing-nursery pig house are classified in to 4 types. In V1 type, air enters through a planar slot inlet placed on the juncture of the entering wall and exit through the chimney fan outlet; in V2 type, air enters through a perforated ceiling inlet and exits chimney fan outlet(V2); in V3 type, air enters through a circular duct inlet and exit chimney fan outlet(V3); in V4 type, enters through a circular duct inlet and exits side wall exhaust fan outlet(V4). Temperature, relative humidity, air velocity and ammonia concentration($NH_3$) were measured in the interior of swine building in the summer. Interior temperature was not remarkably different in all ventilation types in this study. However, temperature of the V4 was somewhat lower than that of the other types. Air velocity of the V4 was higher and $NH_3$ concentration of the V4 was lower than those of other ventilation types. It is suggested that the V4 ventilation type be applicable in the enclosed farrowing-nursery pig house in Korea.

Environmental Efficiency Analysis of an Enclosed Experimental Broiler House (실험 무창육계사의 환경효율 분석)

  • The experiment was conducted to evaluate a ventilation system, which was devised to encourage farmers to use the enclosed poultry housing system. The study was observed in the National Livestock Research Institute from May 9 to May 30 in 2002. The main results of the experiment are as follows: 1. Although the outside temperature of the enclosed poultry house was 9.6 ${\sim}$ 21.2$^{\circ}C$ with 11.6$^{\circ}C$ variation, the house with an excellent heat insulation was maintained at 32${\sim}$33$^{\circ}C$ in a variation of 2$^{\circ}C$ which is within the range of the optimal temperature for broiler, being aided with two small electric heaters. 2. The average of air flow rates of the upper, middle and low parts of the room in the broiler house were detected at 0.57, 0.22 and 0.04 m/sec, respectively. The air flow in the whole room was distibuted uniformly by a perforated duct. In conclusion, heat and humidity could be controlled without any problem in this enclosed housing system. Especially, air flow in all parts of the room was detected in uniform rates, resulting in the better ventilation performance with air inhalation through the duct and air exhaust through the side walls of the house.

  • The meat consumption per person has continuously increased in recent years. However, the labor force in the domestic livestock industry has decreased due to the declining and ageing population. In order to increase productivity, the government have developed and distributed design standard of livestock houses. Presently, report showed that the adaptation rate of the developed livestock house design standard on the real farm was still low. Thus, this paper aimed to find ways to improve the utilization of the design standard through surveys. The survey was conducted on 650 farms across the country. Analysis of the result showed that in the poultry house, the unawareness of farmers to the design standard was found to be the biggest reason for not using the design standards. On the other hand, in the swine house, the previously built swine houses do not fit with the design standard. From these result, the following recommendations were suggested: 1) promotion and education are needed to enhance usage of design standard; 2) since it is impossible to make a design standard considering all the farm sites, it is important to consider the conditions of various farm site prior to enhancement of the design standard; 3) improvement factors such as reinforcing the ventilation design, reflecting animal welfare, preventing livestock diseases, and enhancing ICT devices can also be promoted.

  • The farm house structure, ventilation system and manure treatment of two-storey buildings and sawdust pig houses were surveyed and analyzed. Based on the data for ten selected farms in five provinces during eight months, the goal is to eventually establish a standard two-storey pig house. Manure treatments were composting, slurry and activated sludge in two-storey pig houses, while fermentation method was done in sawdust pig house. The depth of sawdust as a litter material were 10 to 60cm, with a duration of 1/2, 1, 3 and 6 months, respectively. The ventilation systems were the mechanical type in two-storey pig houses and natural system in the sawdust pig house. Side wall in the two-storey pig house was enclosed with insulation materials such as block, colored metal sheet and sandwich panels. The minimum ceiling height in the first floor of the two-storey pig house was 2.0m and the maximum was 3.0m. On the second floor, ceiling height ranged from 2.0 to 2.7m. The construction cost in the two-storey systems were $700\~140$, and sidewall curtain systems were $30\~40$ thousand Won/pyung.

  • Image recognition technology is a technology that recognizes an image object by using the generated feature descriptor and generates object feature points and feature descriptors that can compensate for the shape of the object to be recognized based on artificial intelligence technology, environmental changes around the object, and the deterioration of recognition ability by object rotation. The purpose of the present invention is to implement a power management framework required to increase profits and minimize damage to livestock farmers by preventing accidents that may occur due to the improvement of efficiency of the use of livestock house power and overloading of electricity by integrating and managing a power fire management device installed for analyzing a complex environment of power consumption and fire occurrence in a smart safety livestock house, and to develop and disseminate a safe and optimized intelligent smart safety livestock house.

  • This study was conducted to establish a comprehensive grading guideline for poultry. Guidelines for sampling size and grading were determined on the basis of survey data obtained from chicken processing house. Results were summarized as follows : For application unit, most chicken processing house preferred lot unit to farm unit. Most processing house did not want the total survey method, but selection sampling. At the beginning of the grading system, chicken processing house wanted to apply the system to a particular lots for which the company requests. There were much suggestions for grading not only portion meat, but also whole chicken. Bigger processing house preferred no. $8\~12$ to be graded. Most of large-scale processing houses used more than 81 volts for stunning and cooling tanks by soaking. For shipping chicken, Large-scale processing houses used both individual and box packing while small ones only used box packing.

  • Livestock odor is comprised of mixed type of odorous compounds. Among these, ammonia ($NH_3$) and hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) are the two known major odor causing substances. Because high odor concentration reduces productivity of livestock and causes damage to the surrounding communities, quantitative analysis is needed to manage the odor inside and outside the livestock facilities. It is also necessary to evaluate odor dispersion according to the distance between the receptors taking into account the influence of odor source and weather condition. Therefore, in this study, we tried to evaluate the internal environment and odor dispersion from experimental pig house considering weather conditions. An experimental farm was specifically selected to eliminate the interference of odors generated by adjacent farms. $NH_3$ and complex odor were quantitatively analyzed using a gas detector and air dilution sensory method. The concentration of $NH_3$ and complex odor in pig house showed a distinct concentration difference according to the cleaning and ventilation conditions. $NH_3$ concentration and complex odor was lower than emission standard in the pig house and at the site boundary. The average $NH_3$ concentration (P1~P3) and the $NH_3$ concentration at the site boundary (S1) were strongly correlated with R=0.77. While the correlation for complex odor inside and at the site boundary had R=0.52. The correlation coefficient between $NH_3$ and the complex odor was 0.80.

Survey of Manager's Perception of Slaughter and Further Processed House for the Determination of Grading of Poultry Meat Cuts (닭고기 부분육 품질 등급 설정을 위한 도계 및 추가가공장 관리자 의식 조사)

  • This study was conducted to establish a comprehensive guideline for grading system of poultry meat cuts. Slaughter and further processed houses were divided into large(>70,000 heads/day), middle($50,000\~25,000$ heads/day), and small scale(<25,000 heads/day), and the production managers were asked by the Questionnaire. Most poultry meat cuts produced by larger- and middle-slaughter house were consumed by dealers, franchisee and department store in increasing order, whereas further processed poultry meat cuts(small scale) provided meals for the students in the high amount. The packaging step was best f3r the determination of grading in the large slaughter house. This survey indicated that two or more grades were proper to determine the grading in the middle slaughter house, however only two grades were proper for the others. Freshness, bruise, wound, trimming and the inclusion of foreign materials affected to the grading. Poultry meat cuts were accepted for the grading in large-slaughter house, but whole poultry carcass was accepted for the grading in the others. Most managers agreed with that the grading system was only applied for the amounts requested. They also suggested that the grading system of poultry meat cuts were necessary in near future, even though it was not urgent to apply.

  • Micromanipulation and fusion are essential to generate nuclear transfer embryos. In this process cytoplasmic damage is unavoidable. This study investigated the hypothesis that higher osmolarity than normal culture medium could help oocytes recover from cytoplasmic damage from micromanipulation and electric pulse.   • In South Korea, as the living standard has been getting higher, meat consumption is steadily increasing. To meet the country's demand, livestock houses become larger and wider with increased raising density. In larger livestock houses, pollutants such as flake of pig skin, excrement, odor, various dusts and noxious gas like ammonia are excessively accumulated inside the facility. These will cause weak immunity for the pigs, diminution of productivity and degeneration of working condition. These problems can be solved through the ventilation performance of the facility. In the winter time, ventilation must be controlled to minimum to maintain a suitable thermal condition. However, this affects the other internal environmental condition because of the minimum ventilation. The installation of "wet air cleaner" especially in the winter time can be an alternative solution. For efficient application of this machine, there is a need to understand the existing ventilation condition and analyze the interaction of existing ventilation system with the wet air cleaner considering its appropriate location. In this study, the existing ventilation system as well as the internal environmental condition negatively inside the facility with the wet air cleaner has been studied using CFD technology. The CFD simulation model was validated from the study conducted by Seo et al. (2008). Results show that the elimination rate of ammonia was 39.4 % and stability could be improved to 35.1 % (Comparing case 5 to 1 where wet air cleaner machine was not used). It can therefore be concluded that case 5 shows the optimum location of a wet air cleaner in the livestock house.
