Flux Linkage Calculation for 3-D Finite Element Analysis

  • Novel method to calculate flux linkage for 3-D finite element analysis is proposed. It does not require any integral path if the current direction in a coil is known. The flux linkage can be calculated very easily using simple volume based integration. The current direction is calculated based on the recently developed technique by the authors. The novel method for flux linkage calculation is verified by applying to a very complicated deflection yoke coil. The simulation result is compared to the experimental one. From the simulation, it is shown that the proposed method is very accurate and effective to calculate the flux linkage of a coil.

A Study on the Linkage for National Geographic Information Clearinghouse (국가지리정보유통망과 계열 유통망의 연계에 관한 연구)

  • The Competitive power of the country in knowledge information can be determined that how efficiently useful knowledge and information can be circulated. Korean government established the second National GIS Master Plan, and constructed National Geographic Information Clearinghouse to the goal 'whole nation's internet circulation of the geographic information and practical use'. But every departments of government are trying to circulate their geographic information individually, And this case, consumer group should approach to several dissemination network in various routing line to get the geographic information. In fact, it is difficult to present the solution for uilified single dissemination network. It is difficult to present suitable linkage plan coinciding in special environment and characteristics of all systems. Consequently, in this study, we suggested linkage element that should consider far link with National Geographic Information Clearinghouse, and presented linkage plan by linkage target type.

Flux Linkage Estimation in a Switched Reluctance Motor Using a Simple Reluctance Circuit

  • Flux linkage of phase windings is a key parameter in determining the behavior of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) [1-8]. Therefore, the accurate prediction of flux linkage at aligned and unaligned rotor positions makes a significant contribution to the design of an SRM and its analytical approach is not straightforward due to nonlinear saturation in flux. Although several different approaches using a finite element analysis (FEA) or a curve-fitting tool have been employed to compute phase flux linkage [2-5], they are not suitable for a simple design procedure because the FEA necessitates a large amount of time in both modeling and solving with complexity for every motor design, and the curve-fitting requires the data of flux linkage from either an experimental test or an FEA simulation. In this paper, phase flux linkage at aligned and unaligned rotor positions is estimated by means of a reluctance network, and the proposed approach is analytically verified in terms of accuracy compared to FEA.

  • Deployable structures have the ability to shift from a compact state to an expanded functional configuration. By extension, reconfigurability is another function that relies on embedded computation and actuators. Linkage-based mechanisms constitute promising systems in the development of deployable and reconfigurable structures with high flexibility and controllability. The present paper investigates the deployment and reconfigurability of modular linkage structures with a pin and a sliding support, the latter connected to a linear motion actuator. An appropriate control sequence consists of stepwise reconfigurations that involve the selective releasing of one intermediate joint in each closed-loop linkage, effectively reducing it to a 1-DOF "effective crank-slider" mechanism. This approach enables low self-weight and reduced energy consumption. A kinematics and finite-element analysis of different linkage systems, in all intermediate reconfiguration steps of a sequence, have been conducted for different lengths and geometrical characteristics of the members, as well as different actuation methods, i.e., direct and cable-driven actuation. The study provides insight into the impact of various structural typological and geometrical factors on the systems' behavior.

  • In the present study, we visualize the linkage framework between geometric modeling and shell finite element based on B-spline representation. For the development of a consistent shell element, geometrically exact shell elements based on general curvilinear coordinates is provided. The NUBS(Non Uniform B-Spline) is used to generate the general free form shell surfaces. Employment of NUBS makes shell finite element handle the arbitrary geometry of the smooth shell surfaces. The proposed shell finite element .model linked with NUBS surface representation provides efficiency for the integrated design and analysis of shell surface structures. The linkage framework can potentially provide efficient integrated approach to the shape topological design optimizations for shell structures.

  • In this paper, the mass optimization of four bar linkages is carried out using genetic algorithms (GA) with single and dual constraints. The single constraint of bending stress and the dual constraints of bending and buckling stresses are imposed. From the movement response of the bar linkage mechanism, the analysis of the mechanism is developed using the combination of kinematics, kinetics, and finite element analysis (FEA). A penalty-based transformation technique is used to convert the constrained problem into an unconstrained one. Lastly, a detailed comparison on the effect of single constraint and of dual constraints is presented.

  • Elasto-dynamic deformation of flexible linkage mechanism was analyzed using the finite element method. A computer program was constructed and applied to analyze a specific crank-level 4-bar mechanism, in which the elasto-dynamic deformation of the mechanism system was obtained using mode superposition method in the case of constant input speed and the effect of geometric stiffness on the mechanism is included. Experimental verification of numerical results was conducted by measuring the elasto-dynamic deformation of mid-points of coupler and lever for the 4-bar lingkage mechanism using high speed camera and image data processing systeem. For the elasto-dynamic deformation at the lever mid-point, the numerical results including geometric stiffness almost agree with the experimental ones. However, the numerical results excluding geometric stiffness good agree with the experimental ones at the couper mid-point.

  • Numerical identification of synthetic d-q flux linkage, representative parameters for analyzing interior buried PM synchronous Motor(IPMSM) with distinguished magnetic saturation, has been peformed. Particularly, numerical identification of synthetic flux linkage using modified Finite Element Method(F.E.M) has been taken cross-magnetization of multi-layered PM configuration into consideration. Futhermore, experimental identification on the purpose-built prototype has been made to verify the validity of the numerically identified synthetic d-q flux linkages.

  • The linkage framework of geometric modeling based on NURBS(Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) surface and shell finite analysis is developed in the present study. For this purpose, geometrically exact shell finite element is implemented. NURBS technology is employed to obtain the exact geometric quantities for the analysis. Especially, because NURBS is the most powerful and wide-spread method to represent general surfaces in the field of computer graphics and CAD(Computer Aided Design) industry, the direct computation of surface geometric quantities from the NURBS surface equation without approximation shows great potential for the integration between geometrically exact shell finite element and geometric modeling in the CAD systems. Some numerical examples are given to verify the performance and accuracy of the developed linkage framework. In additions, trimmed surfaces with some cutouts are considered for more practical applications.

  • The linkage framework of surface geometric modeling based on the NURBS and shell finite element analysis is developed in this study. In the geometrically exact shell finite element analysis, the accuracy of the analysis strongly depends upon the accurate computation of the surface geometric quantities. Therefore if we obtain the necessary geometric quantities from the NVRBS surface equation, it's possible to construct the effective linkage framework of surface modeling in the CAD systems and shell finite element analysis using geometrically exact shell finite element. Besides, the linkage framework can be applied to the analysis of general and complex surfaces as well as simple surfaces. In this study, the shell surfaces are generated by interpolating given set of data points based on the NURBS surfaces. These data points usually can be obtained from surface scanning. But the representations of the generated NURBS surface are not same to one another. The accuracy depends on the chosen parameterization methods used in NURBS. Therefore, it is needed to select the suitable parameterization method according to the geometry of the surfaces. To verify the performance and accuracy of our developed linkage framework, we solve several well-known benchmark problems and assess the performance of the developed method.
