  • The geomagnetic measurements on the Korean Territory began in 1918 in the Incheon (Zinsen in Japanese pronunciation) Observatory of which the annual means of total magnetic field intensity, declination, and inclination still remain for 1918-1944. From 1970s, the National Geography Institute (NGI) and the Radio Research Laboratory (RRL) have tried independently to measure the geomagnetic field continuously. The RRL as the result of such efforts has installed 3 geomagnetic observatories, the first in Icheon and the second in Yongin in 1996, and the third in Jeju in 1997. From 1992, the Korea Institute of Geology, Mining and Materials (KIGAM) has tried also to measure the geomagnetism and as the result they have installed 2 geomagnetic observatories, one in Daejeon in 1998 and the other in Gyeongju in 2000. Nowadays, the RRL and the KIGAM collect the measured data into their own main computers by telecommunication in real time. The two institutions will cooperate in near future to link the two geomagnetic data bases so that the whole set of geomagnetic data measured on Korean Territory could be provided to the end users in Korea.

  • In this paper, we propose a enhanced ERICA switch algorithm using the buffer management scheme which can reduce the queue length, support the efficiency link utilization and the fair share. It has three different buffer thresholds which are low threshold, congestion notification threshold and high threshold. According to the each buffer threshold status, switch announced congestion notification to the source differently. So, sources could know the congestion more quickly and fast remover from network congestion. As a experimental results, it is proved that proposed algorithm is the more efficient than ERICA. Especially, proposed switch algorithm provides congestion control mechanism to make the best use of with keeping fairness and reduce queue length.

  • Measuring sensor, equipment, ICT facilities and their software have relatively short life time comparing to constructional structure so that we should exchange or fix them continuously in the process of maintenance and management. In this paper, we propose a novel design of integrated maintenance, management, and measuring monitoring system applying the concept of mobile cloud. For the sake of disaster prevention for constructional structures such as bridge, tunnel, and other traditional buildings in the village of local heritage, we analyze status of these structures in the long term or short term period as well as disaster situations. Collecting data based on mobile cloud and analyzing future expectations based on probabilistic and statistical techniques, we implement our integrated monitoring system for constructional structures to solve these existing problems. Final results of this design and implementation are basically applied to the monitoring system for more than 10,000 structures spread over national land in Korea. In addition, we can specifically apply the monitoring system presented here to a bridge of timber structure in Asan Oeam Village and a traditional house in Andong Hahoe Village to watch them from possible disasters. Total procedure of system design and implementation as well as development of the platform LinkSaaS and application services of monitoring functions implemented on the platform. We prove a good performance of our system by fulfilling TTA authentication test, web accommodation test, and operation test using real measuring data.

  • In the total artificial heart(TAH), a transcutaneous information transmission system(TITS) is vely important to monitor the TAH status and detect the device failure, and repair the possible problems. First of all, the communication channel(skin) and method were simulated in terms of transmittance, scattering, reflection and absorption, then the system was designed with size reduction including low power consumption and reliability compared to the previous one. The informations are transmitted through the skin(approximately 1cm in depth) by frequency modulated near infrared(NIR) pulses using 780nm laser diodes as transmitters and photodiode as receiver with high speed and high spectral sensitivity. The logic high and low frequencies are 3MHz, 1MHz respectively. The system is a bidirectional data link for more than 38.4Kbps data rate, full-duplex with a bit error rate of less than $10^{-5}$.

  • When we present some information, we can use application programs through multinedia-based authoring tools. Especially.many programers proposed to improve its intergration time and reduce programming speed and easy to use. However, multimedia based authoring tools have not all of programming methodolgies and do not supply special functions from user's request. Therefore, we have to apply effective functions through high-level programming languages. In this paper, we propose to use small appkication prograns through linking methods, So we reduce overhead from memory loading In authoring tools, we can use MCI(media control interface) call functions for playback audio files.we development ATS(Auto Transition System) for several functions-close MCI call audio files, get object status, page-to page trancition. We evidently show that an optimal configuration of presentation obtained by ATS algorithm.

  • It has been suggested that people who suffer from impaired masticatory function may adapt food consistency to their oral status (which may lead to deficient nutrient intake) or rely on the digestive system to compensate for the lack of oral preparation of food (which may increase the likelihood of digestive diseases and decrease gut absorption). Masticatory deficiency thus may be detrimental to health. This article reviews evidence of the effects of masticatory deficiency on nutrition. The selection of relevant literature was based on Medline queries using the following key words: mastication, nutrition, digestion, diet, and disease risk. Earlier work not listed in Medline but related to the subject also was reviewed. Only publications available in English were selected for inclusion. It is difficult to draw conclusions from many of the reviewed studies due to issues related to study design, confounding variables, and the subjective nature of the measurements. In particular, data supporting a link between masticatory function and deficient dietary intake often are based on relatively weak correlations and cannot confer a causal relationship.

  • Background: Vitamin D is known to have diverse effects on various systems in the body. There is evidence to suggest that a link exists between the serum vitamin D status and tuberculosis. The present study was designed to assess the alterations in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in newly diagnosed sputum acid fast bacilli (AFB) positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients and to study the association, if any, between serum vitamin D levels and different levels of sputum smear positivity. Methods: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels were estimated in 65 sputum AFB positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 65 age and gender-matched healthy controls. Results: The levels of serum 25 hydroxy-vitamin D in tuberculosis patients were not statistically different from the levels of serum 25 hydroxy-vitamin D in healthy controls. However, among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, there was a significant negative correlation between the levels of serum 25 hydroxy-vitamin D and levels of sputum positivity. Conclusion: Serum vitamin D levels negatively correlates with bacterial load in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis.

  • Since vehicles' trajectories are so complex and dense traffic changes in nature frequently, the VANET (Vehicles Ad-hoc Network), using Omni-directional Antenna, has many channel collisions (or overlapping) on Data Link phrases (MAC layers). It is not easy to keep a good seamless communication status for VANET because of its unpredictable network environment. Among VANET research, Directional Antenna have been proposed as one of the most common systematical solutions to reduce (or to mitigate) this miss-communication problems by narrowing communicational ranges and making use of its customized error-detection process. However, even though Directional Antennas help VANET keep good seamless communication, many VANET researchers have reported that Directional VANET still has miss-communicational problems - this has lead to problems like 'Directional Hidden Terminal Problem', 'Deafness', 'Un-accuracy Lobe Scopes' and 'High Deployment Cost' being reported in various papers. To establish well-organized design assessments for a good Directional VANET MAC protocol to overcome these problems, we rearranged and grouped current Directional VANET' qualitative criteria from several current survey papers using these categories- 'Directional Discovery', 'Directional Forwarding' and 'Directional Handover'. In addition, based on the results of the following analysis, we show the essential design concerns that need to be looked at in order to develop a well-designed Directional-VANET MAC protocol.

  • The sewing machine was the most widely-advertised item in mid-Victorian English periodicals. However, no historians have so far analyzed how English advertisers created the link between the domestic sewing machine and middle-class women, or what impact they may have had on gender relations. This paper treats sewing machines as a medium to enhance our view of gender and social history, consumer culture as well as material culture studies. Studying the advertisements of sewing machines reveals the traditional values and modern consumer culture of mid-nineteenth England, and also offers a sense for how advertisers expected people to react. Sewing machines could not only offer women aspiration and authority, but could also function as a timesaver through which a woman could attain a truly modern lifestyle. Buying a sewing machine for their wives symbolized their status as a breadwinner and a caring husband, as well as serving as an appreciation of their wives' domesticity. Sewing machines also provoked anxiety for both sexes because some believed that women would lose their morality and gender identity, whereas others believed that if relieved of domestic drudgery women would have time to educate themselves, which threatened to men and the gender hierarchy.
