A mathematical model for the pyrolysis processes during unforced smoldering of cigarette was proposed in this study by analyzing the physical model of the smoldering cigarette (including the establishment of burning front between burning zone and pyrolysis zone, and analyzing the involvement of main factors such as pyrolysis of virgin tobacco, evaporation of water, and internal heat transport in the processes). Thermal conduction of cigarette paper and convective and radiative heat transfer at the outer surface were also considered via the thermal resistance law for the competitive heat transfer mechanisms. The governing partial differential equations were solved using an integral method. Model predictions of smoldering speed, or linear burn rate, as well as temperature and density profiles in the pyrolysis zone for different kinds of cigarettes were found to be close to the experimental data in the literature (Muramatsu, 1981). The model provides a relatively fast and efficient way to simulate the pyrolysis processes and offers a practical tool for exploring important parameters for a smoldering cigarette, such as blended tobacco composition, properties of cigarette paper, and heat flux from the burning zone to the pyrolysis zone.

The approximations of charge relationships at normally doped semiconductor interfaces were qualitatively derived basis on electrical neutrality conditions. Effects of ion adsorptions, activation processes, interfacial structures, rectifying phenomena, and effects of surface potential barriers at the p- and n-Si/CsNO3 aqueous electrolytes, and the p-Si/(1HF:3HNO3:6H2O) electrolyte solutions were investigated using a cyclic voltammetric method. The space charge acts the most important role for the pn junction structures, the rectifying phenomena, and the activation processes. The Current-Voltage (I-V) characteristics curves significantly depend on developing of the Helmholtz double layers and charging of the show surface states during the activation processes. A linear Current-Voltage characteristics region was observed at the p-Si/(1HF:3HNO3: 6H2O) electrolyte solution interface.

This paper presents the two-step strategy method of performing optimal scheduling of paper mill processes using MINLP (Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming) considering the trim loss problem in sheet cutting processes. The mathematical model for a sheet cutting process in the form of MINLP is developed in this study, and minimizing total cost is performed considering the cost of raw paper roll, :hanging cutting patterns, storage of over-product and recycling/burning trim. In this paper, A dead-time compensator (DTC) for the processes with long dead-time is proposed. The processes which consist of dead-time, time-constant, gain are estimated by the linear least squares method in the frequency domain. A Smith predictor(SP) modified by including a filter becomes a two degree of freedom DTC. So the proposed DTC can yield the desirable setpoint and load disturbance responses separately. PI controller is used for the primary controller and the filter is tuned to be robust. Simulation examples demonstrate the properties of the proposed DTC.

Criteria are derived for the existence of a unique invariant oprobability distribution of a class of nonlinear pth-order autoregressive oprocesses, which reformulate those of Tweedie's. It will be shown that the criteria in this paper are easily applicable to the linear or piecewise linear case so that some of the earlier results are immediate consequences of our main results.

In this paper we consider TU-cooperative games in the form of characteristic function. We notice that if one uses the necessary and sufficient condition for the core to be not empty in a dual form, it may be used for selecting the final outcome in the core. Using the linear programming approach for constructing the subcore, which is a subset of the core, we represent it in a simple form. We consider reduced games due to Davis-Mashler, Moulin and Funaki and formulate the sufficient conditions for the subcore to be S-consistent.

We establish maximal moment inequalities of partial sums under ${\psi}$-weak dependence, which has been proposed by Doukhan and Louhichi [P. Doukhan and S. Louhichi, A new weak dependence condition and application to moment inequality, Stochastic Process. Appl. 84 (1999), 313-342], to unify weak dependence such as mixing, association, Gaussian sequences and Bernoulli shifts. As an application of maximal moment inequalities, a functional central limit theorem is developed for linear processes with ${\psi}$-weakly dependent innovations.

A functional central limit theorem is obtained for a stationary linear process of the form $X_{t}= \sum\limits_{j=0}^\infty{a_{j}x_{t-j}}$, where {x_t} is a strictly stationary sequence of negatively associated random variables with suitable conditions and {a_j} is a sequence of real numbers with $\sum\limits_{j=0}^\infty|a_{j}|<\infty$.

The linear search problem is concerned with finding a hiden target on the real line R. The position of the target governed by some probability distribution. It is desired to find the target in the least expected search time. This problem has been formulated as an optimization problem by a number of authors without making use of Markov Decision Process (MDP) theory. It is the aim of the paper to give a (MDP) formulation to the search problem which we feel is both natural and easy to follow.

Korea institute of materials science (KIMS) has researched an anode layer linear ion source (ALIS) for various roll-to-roll treatment processes. The ALIS can be used to Ar ion beam (1~2 keV) treatment, and diamond-like carbon coating and so on. The treatment width of ALIS is 500 mm with a uniformity below 5 % (=(Max-min)/(Max+min)). We also demonstrate the status of development of ALIS in a roll-to-roll industry.
